@billtr8516 Yet, when your house is blown away in a hurricane, you will gladly accept that $1M check to rebuild from the insurance company. 100 years of your measly premiums would never cover that outlay. If you truly believe that insurance companies are "greedy," then you should invest your entire retirement fund in insurance company stocks. You will quickly discover your ignorance. Over the long run, insurance companies tend to earn about the same as any other company.

Building materials have sky rocketed because of Biden's terrible handling of the economy. Check your Home Depot and see how much they want for a sheet of plywood.. If your house is destroyed/damaged, you will need these materials to fix it.

Mine went up from 3500 to over 7000 and I bought this house 4 years ago for 190k. It is only covered to 300k. They are asking almost as much as what was required to put down on the house plus closing costs when I bought it. Not every house in Florida is a $1M dollar home. All of this and my house is in the last evacuation zone, no flood zone, brand new roof, windows, and doors rated for hurricane winds back in 2019 when I bought it. The 3-4 legitimate insurance companies left in FL are just irresponsible with their spending, they are all in bed together and so long as all of them raise their rates together, there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it and they know it. Not everyone makes a claim. I haven't made a claim and when I bought my house my insurance was 1500 a year. This can also explain why rent goes up. It just gets passed through.@@Inigo_The_Son

@@Inigo_The_Son Yes, of course they would love the check that will rebuild their home. That's why they chose to have insurance coverage in the first place. Is it not? Doubling someone's insurance cost is extreme and would effect anyone. You should feel some compassion for anyone that happens to. Why you want to insult them is beyond me. Everyone pays, while only 1% of people in the country end up filing for a total loss claim, and maybe 6% for smaller claims. Yet they don't have enough money, and need more? Even with the inflation, 9000 is too much for most people. People are losing there homes over this, and you choose to be ruthless towards them.

I was born and raised in FL and only moved away less than a decade for work. I want to move back, but I want to buy a home; the insurance issue is the only thing holding me back. Its shameful to fleece people like this and risk homeownership, even worse for those who already have homes and are now stuck. then adding in more and more insurance companies are pulling out from the state leaving only the state run one is just a disaster waiting to happen.

Darley, Florida has always had hurricanes!! This does not make sense. Desantis is missing in action on this issue.
@Inigo_The_Son
@Inigo_The_Son Жыл бұрын
@@darrylturner2611 Maybe you have been hiding in a cave, but construction costs have increased astronomically over the past decade. DiSantaClause had nothing to do with that. When a widespread disaster hits a region, then costs increase even higher. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the insurance industry, let me explain. Suppose you have a house that has a replacement cost of $1 million dollars. If your house burns to the ground from a kitchen fire, then the insurance company will give you $1 million to rebuild it. However, if your house is destroyed by a hurricane, along with 10,000 other homes, then local costs skyrocket, and it may cost $2-3 million to rebuild that same house. Do you think Desantis should force insurance companies to operate at a loss? Aside from the fact that he lacks the legal authority, that is simply ridiculous. Just like every other place, insurers will continue to write policies in Florida only as long as it is profitable. For many years, insurance companies have borne the cost of high-danger zones on the backs of customers in low-danger zones. The latest changes are largely an effort to adjust premiums to reflect actual risk factors. If you chose to build/buy in a hurricane/earthquake/wildfire zone, then why should I pay extra for your poor decisions? When left alone, which is never, the free market works perfectly.

Actually, many acknowledge it, but they say that it is not man made (to protect the oil industry), and a natural change, but even if they did, it is too late to stop it unless half of the world's population decides to commit suicide. A Russian scientist tried to alert us 20 years ago that the permafrost was melting and that it would release so much methane that it would create a self re-enforcing loop, and finally, all of the other scientist did the math and realized he was right, and that is why they suddenly moved up their recommendation for reduction of CO2 emission to 2030, but even if we could (and we can't because or modern economy could not function without fossil fuel) it would not matter, because the Russian was right. Too late. The only question now is how quickly will it get to the point where the Florida coastline in uninhabitable.

Florida is becoming like California. My best friend lives in Ca. She recently received her auto insurance bill for her insurance. It went up almost a thousand dollars. Understandably she was shocked and stressed because she needed to find a lower rate. One of her issues as she was shopping around for insurance was she was first of all put into a cue to speak to a person, and then that person told her they needed to do some research and get back to her. She also found out how limited the number of insurers were. All the rest fled Ca. She finally did get insurance at a more reasonable rate. It’s tough out there if your insurer decides to pull out of the state.

How much of the rate hike is caused by scammer roofers and their "customers" ready to sue to get a new roof that really shouldn't be covered by insurance for hail damage? Insurance fraud is driving rates on auto and home insurance to go up so much every year.

I know many are saying this, but I don't think it's true. Insurance companies can handle themselves, they know how to not let themselves go into debt, and how to turn down claims, etc...Those type of roofing claims your talking about are easily detected by home insurance companies. They can easily turn them down, which they do. They know how to go to court and pay for court better than a single customer, and they are not afraid of it, so that doesn't fly. I talked to a lady who used to be an agent, who say's it's a load of crap that someone started spreading around, who was probably an agent themselves, making up excuses.
