Silicon Valley Bank, the go-to bank for US tech startups, facing a sudden bank run and capital crisis, collapsed last week, leaving its high-powered customers and investors in limbo. It was taken over by federal regulators. It was the largest failure of a US bank since Washington Mutual in 2008. CNN’s Christine Romans reports. #CNN #News

Global financial markets have been significantly impacted by SVB's demise, prompting investors to sell off bank equities hastily and reevaluate their interest rate expectations. I am a $350,000 investor who is at a crossroads and wondering if it is wise to hold onto securities that are losing value. I want guidance on the best approaches to maximizing my returns in this negative market.

It is unlikely that the market will experience big gains anytime soon in light of the latest developments involving SVB, therefore it is prudent to set reasonable expectations and get ready for a potentially protracted recovery period. It is advised to postpone making big investment decisions until the economic climate in areas of concern has stabilized. It is best to take precautions and stay out of the current disturbance.

During market downturns, investors should remain committed to reputable companies by maintaining or growing their investments, as well-managed businesses eventually regain their former strength. To find the best entry and exit points for long-term gains from stock appreciation, get advice from a financial expert. Gains from working with an investing advisor can be substantial, as was demonstrated during the pandemic when a gain of $530k in just 8 months was realized.

The recent events with SVB make it unlikely for the market to make significant gains soon, so it's wise to manage expectations and prepare for a potentially long recovery period. It's recommended to avoid making significant investment decisions until the economic environment stabilizes in areas of concern. It's best to exercise caution and avoid engaging with the current turbulence.

I'm really worried about the current bank crisis. If a bank as big as SVB could fail, I fear for a lot more. I know a friend who is running a high-growth startup, and was badly hit by the bank run. I have pulled out more than $340k from my bank. After all, the FDIC covers only up to$250,000, and the implosion could have bad effect. Looking to invest into the stock market now. We're watching the fleecing of the American people via the devaluation of the USD via inflationary money-printing. Bank 'rescues' are merely the easiest way for the government and Federal Reserve (international banking cartel) to: 1. Print/digitize TRILLIONS more dollars (promissory notes) out of thin air... devaluing everyone else's savings 2. Encourage banks to be even MORE careless in their fractional-reserve lending practices, leading to more defaults as there's no risk of going under. Isn't it great that the same 'too-big-to-fail' lie from 2008 STILL works 15 years later?

When you deposit money into a bank they pay you interest, this is generated by investing your money which is how banks turn a profit. If they didn't do this, they would need to charge you a fee for holding a bank account. Treasury bonds are meant to be the safest investment banks can make as they're so liquid and stable. The proboem comes when the fed raises interest rates so quickly that your 10 year bond paying 1.56% APR is now in an environment where the base rate is 4.75% as for every year the bank holds them they're losing money.

Treasuries have a market value & the market value of long term treasuries went down as interest rates went up. This meant the bank had high unrealized losses. @@The_Savage_Wombat you’re supposed to have stop gap protection. That means the withdrawals halt before it collapses. Wrong way risk. In an environment of interest rate hiking since 2022, SVB's treasury holdings have been dropped in value, investment losses have been piling up, and at the same time their key clients (startups, tech companies) have not doing well and start to withdraw monies. In simple terms, everything goes wrong as Fed is raising interests!

This isn’t a bailout. The bank’s shareholders are wiped out, and the bank’s creditors are still on the hook. This is only using FDIC funds to guarantee depositors will get their money back. FDIC gets the money for that by fees paid by all FDIC insured banks, not with taxpayer money.

"If confidence is lost, that can lead to this..." - The result of a bank run should be that customers get their deposits and then the bank is in trouble because they lost their play money. That never happens. What always happens is that the first to arrive at the bank get their money, most come too late and those are in trouble unless the state bails out the bank in which case the trouble gets socialized. Usually life does not favor those coming too late to the party. Then, depending on circumstances, one or two bankers go to prison for a year or two or five, and then they write a book about their exploits and become frequent guests in talk shows or senior financial experts at CNN or some other outlet. This is a valid career option. The owners of a failed bank will not have to adapt their life style to a 9-5 rhythm. They just lost some assets. For them, this is just a fluctuation in a graph in some excel sheet. You will not see a change of supply and demand on the yacht, fur, jewel or island market.

Deregulations came into effect 2-3 years ago, you can tell by the massive investments into the bank, then when people decided to withdraw for many reasons, the bank collapse. That and the train crash are all due to the previous administration deregulation that came too quickly without any supervision. There will be more incident like those.
