I would be happy to buy one if I could afford it, but unfortunately truck prices have gotten out of my reach. There is a point where I will say no because I am smart with my money and refuse to invest larger amounts into things that depreciate super fast like cars and trucks. I prefer to drive older and put my money to work making me more money then to watch it dis-appear in thin air. I think everybody has gotten to the same point as I have and are simply doing without because they are NOT paying the astronomical costs for a truck.

If i were in the buying mood (and might be in the next 2 years), i think i'd just stretch it a bit and step up to a Land Cruiser...Ive lived the T4R life for the past 10yrs...my next vehicle would either be a new LC and throw some 33s on it or a T4R TRD Pro as my plan B.

Wish they had a simple V6 option available. I’d get it in a heartbeat over the 4 cyl. Plus the turbos do require premium fuel. So even the “fuel saving” doesn’t really make sense. Big issues I can see from an engineering and serviceability standpoint: 1. The hybrid powertrain battery not only takes away from rear cargo room substantially without a taller roof line than the last gen, but it drops the spare and the exhaust way down close to the ground. Not to mention, how does one comfortably put hundreds of lbs of gear and drawers on top of batteries - how can you even service it without fully ripping apart your rig? 2. The turbo adds complexity, this is much more of an issue than the hybrid part of the powertrain 3. Looks like at the first glance the fender flares are just cosmetic and the limitations that exist in wheel well arches are still there maybe even worse - for larger tires etc. These shocks are great eye candy but have zero adjustability, no idea if they’re rebuildable, and the springs they come with are clearly not setup for the weight of any light over lander even. Lift height is even lower than TRD pro 4. Brakes look tiny, no upgrade there from what I can see 5. There is less room in the back in every way - especially with sunroof 6. The way the back seats fold is like an LC200, it takes up a ton of space and isn’t nearly as flat as current gen. With a drawer system in back as an over lander, you are neutered in how you can use that 2nd floor as a loading space with the way they fold down 7. I’m sure that onboard air compressor is weak, and I’m even more sure the onboard hybrid 2400W power isn’t pure sine. The current inverters have such dirty power that you can’t even charge a battery backup with them - 400w or 2400w idk about actual power delivery on this thing. Let alone serviceability of it 8. EKDSS not being available is a huge suck 9. Full time AWD Torsen with center locker not being available except on street limited and platinum trims is a huge suck 10. For 8-9 you have to get a land cruiser for both, and neither the cruiser or the limited are setup for serious off road and overlanding. So you can’t have both factory lockers and disconnects and the full time awd and ekdss. I suspect that will be possible in an 85k trail hunter land cruiser trim. Sounds more like a Land Rover to me… Smaller issues: 1. Rear quarter glass wrapping up like that is an accident waiting to happen 2. Power rear door is a nice idea if you don’t mount anything to it and add weight 3. No silly Tacoma suspension seats since it is Japanese made instead of USA 4. 18” factory wheels are too big with too little sidewall and “H!!!” lol passenger car rated “all terrain” tires for the TRD pro - so we still have to change wheels out for 17s and redo the whole thing, so minimum 3k dropped right there 5. The engine sounds like a Camry - rattly and pissed 6. The window is raked so far back with such a high hoodlike that visibility is much more narrow vertically 7. No appreciable size improvement - in fact rear wheel arches intrude as much if not more inwards than before 8. No revision to panhard or multi link system in rear really, in fact bolt diameters look smaller, steel looks thinner, everything looks kinda the same but a little less beefy. I’m sure the metallurgy is better with stronger or more efficient steel and welds though 9. Towing more but with no transmission cooler still 10. No driver side grab handle…guys.. 11. Making a Tacoma refresh and form fitting 4Runner into it is a bit sad Benefits: 1. More efficient frame and body structure 2. Factory lighting, wiring, and at least basic sliders (not sure of durability construction or mounting), skids and suspension 3. Aforementioned oem stuff means holes pre drilled from factory and a larger oem catalogue to order from. The holes will make aftermarket easier - part of the work has been done already 4. Obviously the interior space is more creature comforted and tech upgraded in all ways 5. Power tailgate - I know I said could be a negative but largely a huge positive 6. An adaptive suspension option is cool on street trims, if like the Lexus using electronic adjustment instead of air - it actually is bulletproof 7. Looks and all, but tbh it is very similar to current gen 8. Much more power and torque - as long as your turbo works and battery isn’t dead / electrical system fried 9. Hard to find a whole lot of pros for me over 5th gen, I know it’s ground up new but it feels incremental…

Looks pretty cool. May end up with a Land Cruiser. Just seems like they couldn't decide on a consistent style. Lots of bulges, strange body lines and still no metal bumpers or decent rock rails on the TRD pro.

Every video I've seen goes over space in the back seat but not in the drivers seat. I'm 6'1 and found the head height a little low in the front in the current gen. Any difference in the new 4Runner?

MY big Question. Did they raise the seat and roof line like they did for the taco so you're not seated with your legs straight out for tall folks? and hitting steering wheel getting in and out.?????????????????

Am I correct when I say the landcruiser and 4runner are nearly identical in almost every way? What's the reason to "upgrade" to the landcruiser? Especially considering the 4runner might have 3rd row seating option when the landcruiser does not

Better looking better interior kdss system. I’d say the 4Runner is the least buy worthy compared to gx550 base and Land Cruiser. Unless you want just a base 4 runner.

The 4 runner has sold me now with the automatic lift gate. The only possible deal breaker is wheather it has parking sensors. However, you can get aftermarker sensors so may not be a big deal. This will likely be my next vehicle.

There is no demand and it reduces mpg. In addition they are unsafe since a missed shift could cause a collision. I’m actually a little shocked that the Taco retained one. I bet it gets dropped after a year or two.

They're gonna be as base and watered down as the taco. And priced out of this world. SR5 will probably be 50k after dealers order them how they see fit. And seeing as how you can't order from Toyota, the dealers will add expensive packages to the SR5, Sport and TRD OR to put them mid 50s to 60.
