70-plus emergency sirens around the Artificial Island nuclear generating complex were tested on Tuesday. The sirens -- 34 in New Jersey and 37 in Delaware -- located within the 10-mile radius of the three reactors operated by PSEG Nuclear will sound for three minutes.
They are part of the alert system that would inform those living near the Artificial Island complex in case of an emergency at one of the nuclear plants. Read: www.nj.com/salem/index.ssf/20...

There's a siren I used to hear a lot in Delaware, it was really distinctive - not this one, and I'm trying to figure out what it was. You'd think they'd actually tell the public what these various sirens mean and way of identifying if a siren going off is a test or real. If they don't tell us what they mean then what's the point of having them?

How to survive a nuclear bomb: 1 idea: hide in the basement, if it’s 10 to 20 feet underground you should be good, cover the windows and doors with concrete, bring food and drinks that will last a few weeks, it’s the most faster way 2 idea: if you don’t have food or drinks drive away, if you know someone like your grandparents or any relatives that live far away, drive there and live there, even if you think there house is a dump, it’s a life or death situation, you have a few minutes until the bomb drops so you have to drive up to 70 to 100km an hour 3 idea: do not stare at the bomb, it will cause temporary or permanent damage to your eyes, if you don’t have a car or a motorcycle or any vehicle that can get very far away in minutes from the nuke, then just hide in the basement. If you don’t have concrete or any food or water, your dead 💀 DO NOT HIDE IN A FRIDGE

I grew up in a town that is the home of my country's only nuclear power plant. There the sirens are tested on the first Monday of every month (unless that day is a national holiday, in this case they move the test to the next Monday) at 1 pm. I moved to the capital city about 10 years ago and forgot about these tests. Last year I started to work from home every day due to COVID and it turns out there are tests here too, because there is a chemical plant nearby. The only difference is the tests here are scheduled at 11 am, that gets me every time.

Northern Luzon, Philippines We use them as a alarm clock for the city. We ring them once in 6:00 am(breakfast), 11:30am(lunch), 6:00 pm (go home not dinner). It is really annoying sometimes because our class starts at 7:00 am in the morning.

We have sirens like this in Iowa where I live except it's for tornadoes. I've gotten used to them. They test 'em every Monday at 12:00 PM I think. All I know is that if they're on for more than 1 minute you're in trouble.

@benjaminrobledo5466

I'm confused on the meaning of the sign... If the siren sounds for 3-5 minutes, then tune the radio...? Or is it: If the siren sounds, tune the radio and listen to it for 3-5 minutes?
@benjaminrobledo5466
@benjaminrobledo5466 3 жыл бұрын
@@technicalthug How, where or when do they overlap? I'm imagining since (for option 1) they said to listen to the siren for 3-5 minutes... That means the siren likely has more than one meaning - that meaning conveyed by how long the siren blasts. My guess, a test or something like that if it rings for 6-7+ minutes, or a "Get to cover immediately" if it rings for 1-2 minutes. So, with this option, if it rings for at least 3 minutes, then listen to the radio. Otherwise, it's: If it rings, then immediately listen to the radio for at least 3 minutes.

This is untrue. Modern generation 3 and 4 nuclear power plants are inherently safe - i.e. when they lose cooling and begin to meltdown, the reaction stops, and they won't runaway like Chernobyl. The plant may sound the siren and call for evacuation if they know something isn't working properly, and could lead to small amounts of radioactive debris from being expelled. You probably won't even get an x-ray's worth if you evacuate with the siren.

@@rprince418 People seem to think Nuclear energy is dangerous. It is, in the wrong hands. It's the nuclear waste which we don't yet have a solution to. You can safely argue that current Nuclear Fission reactors are safer than the planned Nuclear Fusion designs.
