Many skeptics respond to the evidence for the Bible by ignoring it and saying "You can't use the Bible to prove the Bible". I think there is a sense in which this is true, but there are several senses in which this is false. In this video I will explain 7 (and maybe 8) ways to use the Bible to prove the Bible.

@Qwaurk. Errr, apples and oranges. Science is a method to try and understand the natural world and it is reliable. The best thing about science is that anyone around the world can do it. Science does not deal the supernatural. Is Spider-Man real because the comic book is evidence? Can I use the comic book to prove it? See how that works? Using new knowledge to update a current perception is wrong? Did you learn anything in school or from other people and then modify a view you had? Did you ever investigate anything yourself and find out something you didn't know before with the outcome of realizing you were wrong about what you thought to be true?The bible hasn't changed but I bet you interpret it and therefor change it. No one agrees that it is good to own people as property or beat people. Do you?

Hey Pastor Mike, thanks for doing these videos. They've been very helpful. I enjoyed the debate and am looking forward to another if you guys decide to talk about miracles. I know I may be biased as a Christian, but I'm not sure I agree with Paulogia's claim that we need to choose the mundane explanations for the resurrection. Rather than feeling mundane, they feel kinda complex and unlikely. Like how when an Atheist uses the multiverse theory to try to get around a creator. It just feels bizarre to go that far with it. The idea of mass hysteria in this particular case feels just as bizarre. Anyway, just wanted to show my appreciation.

Excellent video. I agree, there has never been any evidence to support that a person or a group of people made wholesale changes to the Scriptures and released them back out to the public - the notion in itself is completely absurd. Also, from the Pilate Inscription, Hittite Tablet, The Moabite Stone, David Inscription, and many other findings - there is so much archeological evidence "outside the bible" that supports and affirms the Scriptures. As always, great video!

I don't find it convincing when a prophecy is something people know about and then they TRY to make happen to claim it is a prophecy. When it comes to the question of whether the Bible is true, I realized I have a different understanding of truth from many people. For example, I also believe that the Bible is inspired and that is why I consider it to be more than a historical factual report. Because you don't have to be inspired by the Holy Spirit to give an eye witness report. Anyone with a good sense of memory, some objectivity and the ability to write can do that. So, especially when it comes to the Gospels, my faith is not shaken if historical-critical scholarship says that the Gospel of John is not a historical accurate report because it differs greatly from the synoptical gospels. I believe that John was inspired and had authority by the Holy Spirit to put words into Jesus' mouth, let him hold long theological monologues, or change the chronology to make a certain statement. I think, it is what I expect from inspired scripture. Equally, I have no trouble viewing Job as a constructed narrative with a philosophical moral, rather than a historical report. Problem being here that it does not fulfill the criteria for the historical genre. I also feel like I have no trouble viewing some of Genesis like that because I can see how carefully it is worded to deliver a deeper message. And I almost feel it is a shame that some reduce it to having to be a historical factual report, because they often miss out on the deeper meaning while being so focused on battling scientists or so. I mean, I ask myself, what is the kind of book God wanted to have written? Potentially, he could have inspired people to write everything down. In comparison to that the Bible is quite small and short. It is something that atheist's equally do not grasp. They debate us on issues of historicity or when it comes to metanarrative they want to show that other cultures already had the same idea, that the Bible authors borrowed from Babylonians and Plato and what not. So what? It doesn't discredit it for me. The only thing that could discredit the Bible for me is itself, if it was clearly teaching a message that was evil or utterly naïve. So, these are also the only times where I feel doubts - to be honest - when someone says, this and this Torah law, for example, is evil.

It was proving the resurrection that is recorded in the Bible.That kind of nonsense atheists love to claim is the equivalent of saying you can’t use books about evolution, to prove evolution.Atheism is the denial of all evidence and reasons that affirm God’s existence.The guy you debated makes obnoxious videos on KZfaq about God and religious people,but I must say he was good and conducted himself respectfully.I liked the fact he didn’t say everything was fabricated.In a nut shell he admits his atheism prevents him from believing it no matter how good the evidence is. asix When it comes to evolution, it is an attempt to explain the data or evidence pertaining to the history of life. The data is interpreted with the assumptions that evolution were true.Any data that contradicts or conflicts with it is ignored, assumed to be misinterpreted or by claiming our current understanding of evolution is in sufficient to explain all the data.The vast amounts of evidence that we should find but don’t is explained away by conveniently claiming to have a record of life that goes back billions of years while simultaneously claiming the reason we don’t find the claimed common ancestors and the evidence of population numbers that would prove the claims because fossilization is such are rare occurrence.If fossilization is such an anomalous event, surely they wouldn’t derive a theory based on anomalies, would they? Then they claim DNA is the evidence that proves the theory. That is strange that we don’t have the fossil evidence but somehow we have genetic evidence of billions of years.We don’t. Not even anything close. We have very limited genetic evidence going back thousands of years.So we have a lot of assumptions and extrapolations based on anomalies.So what is the real undeniable proof of evolution? Listing similarities and fantasizing, I mean theorizing stories that make the claims seem possible.Evolution is next to impossible to consider proven beyond a reasonable doubt, Therefore your ability to reason is debatable. Now the debate was not the idiotic claim of proving the Bible. The debate was proving the resurrection. What evidence do we have? Multiple eyewitness accounts that confirm the resurrection. What evidence did you expect to have? What are the possibilities pertaining to evidence of the event? You seem to have no problems accepting assumptions based on anomalies, similarities, extrapolations and admittedly fabricated fictional tales when you accept the theory of evolution.Like I said about the other guy you base your beliefs on your emotional attachment to atheism.Thats completely fine, but it is hardly rational. To further illustrate my point is the likelihood you accept essentially every other historical claim that doesn’t pertain to the life of Christ regardless of the evidence for it. Further more you seem to think theism is an irrational belief. The reality is that about 3% of the world thinks atheism is a rational worldview. When a person who holds such a radical view of the world and thinks that practically the entire world is irrational except this fringe cult of atheists, it seems justified to think they are suffering from a delusion or extremely confused or brainwashed.I could only suggest you stop basing your beliefs on your personal emotions and start being more rational and consistent about how you decide on what to believe. If you think your atheistic worldview is rational and justified please don’t hesitate to let me know. Maybe the rest of the world just hasn’t seen your evidence or logical reason for your atheism.It must be really convincing if you think 90% of the world is wrong and your right. Thanks for having the courage to share your emotionally derived opinions with me.It was fascinating.

Keep adding blue and the color will eventually look completely blue with the yellow still existing, but the blue completely overwhelming the yellow.* *In another vat of yellow paint, add drops of red paint, the same process will result in orangey yellows, then oranges all the way through various iterations of red.* *Both started out as yellow paint, but the end results are very different colors.*

Very insightful Mike. Thank you. I think another reason that we can logically use the bible to prove the bible, is that from a writing standpoint,, the bible is a collection of works written by different historical figures. While the authors held a common faith, they did not collaborate every word that was written. The Old Testament authors often lived hundreds if not thousands of years apart. I think comparing multiple historical writings to come to an acceptable factual conclusion is a pretty common practice for historians. I don't see a logical reason to make the bible any different in that practice. From a Christian standpoint, the wonderful thing about an unbeliever reading the biblical text is that we've got the whole Romans 10:17 principle coming into play. :)

Two of my favorite sermons from Voddie Baucham are on “Expository Apologetics” and “Why I Believe the Bible”. To paraphrase: You cannot tell me that a collection of 66 books written over a few millennia, by over 40 eyewitnesses during the time of other eyewitnesses that contains both verifiable historical events and prophecies fulfilled in ways impossible through human effort and has gone through rigorous textual critique to prove its cultural and historical accuracy, cannot be used to prove it is the true Word of God. Otherwise, NO historical text can be used in any way to prove anything, due to lack of substantial evidence. Yet we readily believe more about history with significantly less evidence than the Bible.

Sometimes I say that I'm just using the Bible, letting it speak for itself. I'm not saying that you have to believe it because it says so. My hope is that, if we present the word of God, the Holy Spirit can use it in another person's life, eventually convicting them of its truth. The word is the sword of the Holy Spirit, and He actively uses it. In this way, it really is a living word. I'm not even trying to _prove_ it is true, but to testify to His word so that the Holy Spirit can use it in the heart of people who are listening with their heart. After all, if we overcome at all through the word of our testimony, it isn't through our life story, but our testimony to His word. Maybe I just have too much trouble in my life to apply myself to knowing how to logically prove it, but I'm skeptical that scholarly arguments lead to saving faith, and what's the point, if it doesn't lead to belief in Jesus, and salvation? It is all the more unlikely that lawless online debates will lead to faith, when intellectuality is held at a premium and the whole experience of slapping and gouging is more like a Three Stooges film. I never intended to take part in debates, beyond saying, to Christians on the fence, mainly about Calvinism, or perhaps being strong-armed into it, that this is what the Bible actually says, and it should be believed, trusted to be true. I actually thought that this was something I could do that would be useful and meaningful. I am not against rational arguments, but we're in an age when the work of the Holy Spirit and our experience of it, is being minimized and denied, we need to not be ashamed of the truth, but uphold it. When we act as if we are ashamed of all the things Jesus said about hearing His spiritual voice (which Calvinist discernment ministries are condemning as heresy: really? Jesus said it, over and over!!!) and God revealing His truth supernaturally (to Simon bar Jona, to babes, to whomsoever the Son will reveal it), why would anyone listen to our reasoned arguments, if they leave that part of the truth unsaid, neatly sidestepping it, again, as if we're ashamed of it, and afraid we're going to lose our imagined intellectual street cred with atheists, if we believe the word that we claim is our authority? How inauthentic is that? If we believe it, we ought to be unashamed of believibg, and we ought to be as honest about why we, as individuals, believed, as we are about presenting arguments we have learned by studying a cheatsheet of "why we believe." We ought to be able to say something about how we really came to believe, and our experience in believing unto salvation probably will have some correlation to something in the Bible.

If a text doesn’t change over time, does that prove that it is true?
@stewartbell5677
@stewartbell5677 Жыл бұрын
Not in and of itself. If they keep reprinting Harry Potter for a thousand years and it doesn’t change that doesn’t mean it is true. It just means it is uncorrupted by time. The point about it not changing is that one of the most common arguments against belief in Christianity is that the Bible has been corrupted over time so Christians shouldn’t believe what is said in the Bible. However, the evidence shows the opposite to be true. That doesn’t prove Christianity to be true but it does eliminate a common argument as to why it isn’t true. That taken with other arguments, such as the historical authenticity of the Bible and what it says about Jesus’ death and resurrection, the fulfillment of prophesy, the argument for free will leading to God, intelligent design, the moral argument, etc. give evidence for the truth of the Bible. I myself do believe that the Bible is the true word of God and believe Jesus to be my Savior, that he died on the cross to save humanity of their sins and rose from the dead. I had many decades where I did not believe that to be the case. However, I agree with Mike’s statement that rational conversations about Christianity tend to lead people to Christ. The evidence is honestly overwhelming considering the time period. I encourage you to look into all the evidence with an open mind to determine whether or not something is true and has inherent value based on your own research. Jesus loves you! ❤

@ katreena Drew The Bible says that it is very valid today, that we find our Sabbath rest in what Jesus Christ did for us. Mark 2:23-28... Sabbath was meant point us to what God has done for us, not to enslave us Col 2:16 and Romans 14:5-6... if you want to Celebrate the Sabbath on a particular day then that is okay, I find that a Christian can rest on what Jesus Christ did for us everyday. Gal 4:8... Paul's concerns for the Galatians is that they are making the celebrations a law. Romans 6:14 we are no longer under law, but under grace Heb 4... If you believe then you have entered God's rest, Jesus Christ Heb 10... establishes that Jesus fulfilled all the OT law Luke 22... Christians are under a New Covenant New Covenant, Ezekiel 11:19 + 36:26; Jeremiah 31:33; Heb:8:10...We now have the Spirit of Christ living in us. Romans 8:2... For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from sin and death

Spiritual matters cannot be proven. Each person must go through their own personal spiritual experience. To use an analogy, there are two types of bridges. There is the flat bridge and the arched bridge. For spirituality, each person must walk the arched bridge. When he gets to the other side, others on the other side can no longer see him. Witha flat bridge all observers from one side of the flat bridge can see everything on the other side of the bridge. Look at Paul, his change occured from a very personal experience. Same with St. Francis.
