My goal is health related. I was diagnosed with cancer and I know that improving my health is the best way to give myself a better chance to live. Btw...I loved this video. Your honesty and sense of humor is why I always watch. Thank you for sharing your journey. As far as sports cards, I am a long term collector. I do (kinda) see it is an investment. Most of all, it is for fun. It takes me back to the 90's when I was young.

Hey man, sorry to hear about that, just want to encourage you to keep a positive mindset and be optimistic cause it really helps. A healthy diet (low carbs, moderate proteins, more fibres and vitamins) and regular exercise are a must too. Good luck in your treatment and wishing you the best of health!

Fortunately, there are a ton of people that have overcome their diagnosis by shifting the food they consume as well as their belief system. @@bbokariontop I’ll tell you little secret, base is what I’m buying. There can’t be a hobby without base cards and they’re dirt cheap because people were made to believe they are trash 🗑. I will continue to buy 💰.

Lots of people are in dire financial situation because of gary v, vegas dave, geoff, and all these KZfaq sport cards influencers. Many got into the hobby thinking its easy money 💰. Many are in debt and they can't sell to even cover their debt. Some got depress and not even making KZfaq content anymore . Good luck Brad 👍

This would be interesting. They pumped and dumped themselves right out the hobby lol. This boom reminded me to find the Giannis rc I pulled and to sell it because it was "worth" something now and reminded me how cool it was that I originally pulled a Kobe rc that I don't plan to get rid of.

hey bro, things were definitely easier up until March 2021. Unfortunately, you're right that a lot of people leveraged debt to build their collections or inventory. For me, i love sports cards, but not in the same way i was involved for the first year.

I'm 40, been doing cards 35 years non-stop. I've seen this a lot over the years. People come in like a freight train for a year or two then burnout on the hobby. My dad owned a shop for many years and I spent my childhood going to stores and shows all over the country. What I've found is you really have to be passionate about the history of the sport to stay in it. If you treat it as a commodity you will get bored. If you buy too much to fast (gotta get em all mentality) you will run out of affordable stuff and get bored. At the end of the day it's just a dumb piece of cardboard and if there's no emotional or historical attachment to it and it's just a dollar sign to you, then it will become just a dumb piece of cardboard financially weighing you down.

The life time collectors have been expecting this exact thing from many who jumped into this hobby during the pandemic. To jump back out. Especially the Gary V followers who took his bait hook, line, and sinker. Many others will be following your move to leave the hobby for other things. Best of luck. Do what you love, not what rich pumpers with an agenda tell you to love. It was never going to work coming into a mania market like you did.

Just to clarify, I'm still involved in the hobby...in fact, I'm really excited about the sports card podcast and taking our livestream (Off Centered with Dustin) to another level. The whole focus on creating income from card flipping and having to create videos every week is the part I want to pivot away from. Cards have to be fun! There are already too many things that strip our energy away! :D

I think he is passionate in whatever he does and that includes sports and sports cards. Hey, I would pull away as well if I was constantly being accused of pumping the market for my own gain IF I was truly in it for the right reasons. Just my opinion. The graded card system makes it very easy to fall into chasing the gambler’s high, simply because of the stark difference in value between a 9 and a 10. Chase that rush a bunch of times, and burnout is imminent. But the value you’ve created on your channel is amazing! There are many who are very grateful for your insight, your candor, and your emotional intelligence. L.A. can be tough. I’ve been here for almost 15 years, and there have been some serious ups and downs. The first 3 years here were brutal. People can be very dismissive to your attempts at succeeding, and the tactics in doing so feel very counterintuitive to good humanity at times. It makes perfect sense why you’d want to take control of your ambitions in the form of a KZfaq channel - why wait for others to provide you with an opportunity, when you can make things happen yourself?

My number one goal is to have a more fulfilling year from a mental health standpoint. The 2nd half of 2020/1st half of 2021 were a struggle and it took a while but I'm finally at a good headspace going into 2022 and hope to maintain that.

Yes!!!!!! Thank you for leaving the hobby. Hope all the ones like you do as well. Now I can go to the store and pick up cards off the shelf and not have to overpay for retail boxes on eBay. Maybe you can go to Home Depot and buy all the flood supplies before a hurricane hits and sell them to normal people looking to protect their family for a higher price. Kinda glad you’re stuck with a bunch of graded junk. And all the people who overpaid for graded cards are stuck too.

If you get burn all the time eat healthy sport and sleep a lot! Take a slower pace in things only professional sports and war requires 100% energy. Like good wine do not Drink as much as you can. Strawl the road not run to the goal keep it 80% max. People always rush stuff which can not be rushed and forget to enjoy the journey and get burned out!

I look forward to continuing to watch Off- Centered. I got back into the hobby a few months after you and have really enjoyed it. I view myself as mostly a collector, probably like your buddy Dustin. As a father of 4 young ones this is also a great stress reliever when I have time. Goals for this year, be the best husband and father I can and live a better lifestyle. 100% agree with you on the hobby. I'm pulling back myself. Overprinting, too many autos, too many numbered cards, too many 1/1s. Who doesn't have a Justin Herbert rookie auto at this point?? Luckily I was pretty much a collector so everything I have, I like. But the few more cards I want, people are hanging onto them for a price like it's March 2021. Just don't want to take a loss, and I certainly am not going to pay March 2021 prices. Also, Fanatics needs to turn $500 million into $10 billion. They are going to squeeze every last penny out of the hobby and I'm not interested in playing along.

What are your thoughts on the future of sports cards in general, going up or down ? I would think with fanatics with the MLB nfl and nba would promote big time no ?

@@onetime3137 fanatics paid for the licenses at their peak value. That peak is already gone. But they need to charge peak prices to recoup their investment. That only comes around once every 20 years. I wouldn't buy the stock.

Sell off those base Prizms you've been sitting on! You said you were bored sitting on the sidelines - sell those things and buy some fun cards with some upside. I promise, it will be freeing when you admit that base Prizm is dead, take your losses, and use the money to start enjoying the hobby again. I did exactly that recently.

Hey bro, for starters I want to say I appreciate you answering every single comment. My old handle was sports cards tv. For me, I'm not much of a commenting person, but I wanted to touch on your video so you know you are not alone. In November, I left youtube for a break for head clearing and it pivoted into an awakening of sorts. I was off youtube for 2 month. I love sports cards, but felt something was missing. It was vintage. My entire life pretty much I have been into sports cards and vintage. So I said I wanted to create a channel to cover both. If people don't watch it does not matter as much because I like it more. I too want to build a sports card podcast because I love the engagements and perspectives. I will be changing my other channel into learning type interview channel. Kind of like a Joe Rogan thing where he brings anyone on and learns. I'm really into that which ultimately will build relationships. I love this youtube thing and want to go all in. We just need to focus on fulfilling our needs more than our viewers needs or it will never work out. It will be like a job you hate to do and what would be the point. Good luck in all your endeavors. Whatever you wind up doing I'm sure it will be good.

I’ve watched ur videos over the last year r so as a sports card collector… I knew on the day you said and i quote but not exactly … hah.. you said “I have no interest in micky mantle or any of his cards”… when you said that I knew you were not a true collector and enjoyed cards to hold… so I watch you and was kinda good but knew you were a short termer.. anyone real card person knows mickey mantle cards are very important cards for now any many years ahead.. good luck to you tho in your new things...

I'll be starting my own business this year. My goal is to be very selective of how I spend my time and money as my personal company will always come first. This should benefit on how I collect and invest in cards as I now have a better plan for them and not just buying because I can. I also plan to continue my weight loss journey that I started in 2020. Already down 70 lbs. Having a better physical and mental body is the best investment for yourself no matter what

I think there are a lot of people in similar situation.. between our professional lives… and personal lives… and the effects Covid had on our lives.. for the card game to be a revenue generating successful career, it needs full commitment, joint ventures, sponsorships, knowledge of the other card types so u can stay ahead of the game on and off seasons… marvel, soccer, basketball, baseball, celebrity, who’s trending, who’s on top of his game, who dies.. who hurts himself etc…

yeah, the commitment level must be much higher for this to be full time income (or you're just damn good at prospecting) For me, it's not worth the time and energy to pursue actual sports card flipping for income, but the brand side and the community is incredibly rewarding. :)

I started collecting again last year and the most annoying thing is everyone has and wants graded cards the process takes so long it’s ridiculous, I’ll be dead by the time all my cards I want graded ever get graded lol

Influencers come in and inflate the market then bail at the first moment of trouble. It has to be a hobby first and foremost to be in for the long haul. Once you make it a business it changes everything.

I got back into the hobby the same time as you and I get card fatigue especially when you get tons of emails and invites on card sales, live sales, breaks and other things, like I do, you get overwhelmed and sometimes you need a break

All good stuff. The industry would still be more fun if card manufactures didn't raise their prices so high. People want cards but prices have gotten too ridiculous. The exchange in money for goods isn't gratifying, I always feel ripped off. It reminds me of that gold mining tv show, they always talk about overburden to get to the paydirt. Most of what you get when you buy boxes or packs of cards is overburden. My 2 cents.

I'm looking at buying ungraded to be graded or sold raw in the future. The psa/bgs premiums are just to much right now and sending raw in to be graded just don't make financial sense right now. Hopefully market comes back in few years. I don't see it coming back this year or even next. Might be good time to just sit out as prices continue to correct.

I have a massive basketball card collection, thousands that I’ve collected since 1991.. with a 10 year break in 2000.. I’ve kept a very clean log of every card, a detailed tracking of where why and what my intentions are for the card.. but I’ve never sold a single card, worse.. In 2020 I put another $5-7k into it because I was noticing where cards dipped in price and I’d grab it.. I don’t like that there’s down time.. it sort of kills the passion around the hobby.. I know it’ll bounce back.. but I’m not too happy about the wait.. I wish there was a company out there that would just take it all and make the investment moves for me.. take profits and jump on marvel, or football.. and just continuously handle it for me for a cut..

Hey Matt. Good to see you, bro! I probably wouldn't do a video on that...however, everything starts with building a brand....and that's something that not only takes time, but a lot of intention. I invested about $2000 to learn KZfaq and $3000 to be more comfortable on camera. But once the brand is developed, people reach out to you asking for you to promote their stuff with a revenue model attached.

Did you just finish your 2021 taxes and figured out with all the time and energy your profit was nil and all you have is bunch of inventory? That was my result. But I am going to keep pressing on because I am a collector first and a dealer second. I have a helluva mid graded slabbed Aaron, Mays, Mantle collection I paid very little for. So my PC is what benefitted.

I hear ya and I think its a definate movement of a lot of people or shift from the Hobby. I feel like this hobby is dead and dyin now. Corporate businesses in the hobby killled it.

By no means is it dead whatsoever. I meet folks every week that are brand new into the hobby so there are still lots of people getting into the card industry. The prices have been extremely volatile over the past 2 years (especially if you bought at the beginning of 2021) but most see strong growth in the hobby for years to come....

I can relate. I have had a long time love/hate relationship with sports cards. Last item i bought was on October 30, haven't even looked at anything online in about 2 months. It's probably because I have a lot of varied interests and I get bored easily just focusing on one hobby.

I pretty much just collect baseball, which I know you don’t typically mess with. But your insight and enthusiasm, without being a douche is what I like best. Other KZfaq channels, without saying names, seem to have an ulterior motive to pump up their card investments to benefit themselves. Your content is very refreshing and it’s helped a lot, especially hearing about mistakes you’ve made in your journey. Thanks again for what you do for the hobby, and I hope everyone remembers that it is a hobby and you should do it because you love it, not solely for profit. Profit is great, don’t get me wrong. But we should all be having fun with it and collecting what we love.
