I grew up in Downey in the 70s and 80s. Staple of Downey. It took a petition to keep the McD location. Glad the folks of Downey kept their sanity and allowed it to survive

My first brush with McD's was in the 60s as a child. I remember the location in Philly resembled the Downey restaurant, only larger. You could get 10 burgers for $1.50

@@jeroenboth167 yeah, it's a rip off everywhere nowadays. I had the pommes frites at McD's in Germany. Not the same as the US, though. Everyone there dips them in mayo😱

I would go there because it was the only place in town that had a Golden Corral, but I'd still go there after for the 2 for 1 Big Macs and that neat little museum. The Founder was a neat movie too

There was no stereo radios in cars to blast out Elvis Presley, Bill Haley or The Four Aces, it was AM manorial radios if your car had a radio at all.

Our 10 yr old granddaughter loves her Friday Mickey D's fix because it's a treat from us who us to use her QP and McFlurry as way to help her to be happy after losing her mom last year. Can't wait to show her this video! Give her some history to shoulder her love for our local franchise. Thank you Mashed for helping me/us to make life easier along the way:)

What I heard is that if the McDonald brothers knew what Ray Kroc was going to do, they would not sell him the rights for the restaurants. What I heard is Kroc even sued the McDonald brothers because they was going to open a new restaurant.

We had a McDonald's just like that old 50's building here in Stuart, FL up to just last year when they tore it down and replaced it with a modern cookie cutter modern building. Stupid decision.

I can remember the smell of the milkshake and it sitting next to my fries and chicken nuggets on the tray. I liked the cups they put the milkshakes in then (1980s) better than today (plastic domed).

Ronald McDonald is still the mascot he isn’t gone they just haven’t been promoting him on the commercials as of late he’s still shown on many different ads and certain locations still feature him.

Gonna screw up the story of Ronald McDonald. The original Ronald McDonald was an old Carney named Aye Jaye. I Believe, and hope, is alive and well. Aye Jaye trained Ronald's who had regions and made excellent money. Aye Jaye wrote book called The Golden Rule of Schmoozing. Great book on how to get along with people. Look him up

I remember when mc donalds had great food, now its wok crap, no more good burgers and there fries 😢 not so good . What the hell happened to Mc donalds. No body there gives a shit about quality any more. AND THAT IS A HUGE FACTOR!!!!!!!

Ray Kroc was a business marketing genius. Can’t deny it. He took a small restaurant and made it into a worldwide phenomenon, despite the fact that the food is really mediocre at best…..Only the fries are really memorable. Personally, I prefer either BK or Wendy’s, but in a pinch, my choice at McD’s is the simple cheeseburger with extra pickles.

Ray Kroc ruined it and the quality went downhill when he took over. If he never got involved, McDonalds would be like In-N-Out today. This Downey location was the 2nd Franchisee of the McDonald Brothers, before Kroc got involved. They didn’t need Kroc to open franchise locations, they were doing it slow and at their own pace to maintain quality control.

Boomer here. My first time at McDonald's I discovered that French fries dipped in my chocolate milkshake was the best thing EVER!!! (I was only 14 😅). I still have my Big Mac t-shirt!! When you said "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, on a sesame seed bun- Big Mac" it was bogo! Fun times in the good old days 😊.

“Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun” 😁 How could you forget the onions 😆 In elementary school in the 1970s, we kids would sing that on the bus and say “Sesame Street bun” instead for laughs 😂 Oh, and I vaguely remember something about the whole craze of dipping McDonald’s fries into the chocolate milkshakes, but I never tried it; thought it was gross sounding 😂 Then when I was 14 and my boyfriend and I were at McDonald’s for lunch one day, he was dipping his fries in the sweet & sour sauce while eating from the carton of 20-piece chicken nuggets we were sharing and talked me into trying it….. I was hooked 😂 I still wouldn’t have anything to do with mixing fries and chocolate shakes though 😂 Oh, and one more memory: I was born and raised in the southwest and lived there all of my childhood except for a couple of years when my dad had taken a job on the East coast. I’ll never forget the first time going to a McDonald’s there, because I was bewildered when I was given chocolate milk in response to my ordering a milkshake 😂 My mom had to explain to me that there on the East coast, milkshakes were called “frappes” 🙄
