This is the first video I’ve watched demoing playing a game with the Personas - very cool!! Hopefully we will be able to have them in the room without the bounding box soon.

The dynamic detail of the Persona avatars is very impressive. Since there are so few AVPs out in the wild, unless you can also scan a digital persona into existence with an iPhone 15 Pro, the Apple persona ecosystem will be sparsely populated for many years. Meanwhile, 99% of iPhone people will have to make do with real video chat. Meta has been working on realistic avatars for years, so even when theirs are less detailed/dynamic than Apple's, at least everyone will have one. Hopefully we will also have the option of fantasy avatars like in VR Chat instead of just the current cartoony human ones. The super-detail Meta avatars will of course be full-motion figures instead of talking-half-heads-in-frames because that is integral to actual VR.

My opinion about Apple Personas: The creepy look and feel they can have, that sort resembles an unholy blending Max Hedron and Nagilum from season 2 of Star Trek The Next Generation; doesn’t seem nearly as creepy when everyone is an Apple Persona in the call. When Todd of Q2C Gamer and Sadly it’s Bradly both had Apple Personas but the other two people in the live stream were proper IRL, it always looked creepy to me. I’m going to bet that if you had Thrill and Phia come in as there VRChat avatars, have two other VR KZfaqrs come in as Apple Personas, two more come as Banter/ReadyPlayerMe avatars, and finally have two IRL VR KZfaqrs all on the same livestream, that in order of creepy it would be 1) Apple Personas (by a lot) 2) ReadyPlayerMe (a bit) 3) VRChat avatars (almost none) The anime and furry avatars properly look like what those things should look like, regardless of their objectively fictional status. ReadyPlayerMe looks more or less what a cartoon person should look like. Personas trying to reach IRL level realism… not so much (yet). I really believe for most people regardless of the match ups, the only Apple Persona meeting that will mostly remove the creepy feeling in when everyone in an Apple Persona. EDITED: Like even if it was VRChat Furries and men as anime girls, meeting in a Zoom style call with two Apple Personas… I’m reasonably sure that the VRChat avatars will seem the most “natural” because they look like what they should, and the Personas because they’re now next to things (insert any “things”) that look proper, it will make the Personas seem more creepy and less real, than if the Personas were in an exclusive Apple Persona Zoom call. Again, IMHO.

there is some kind of stillness, i think, is what throws me off on the personas. its still unsettling and ive been watching videos on this headset since it came out. ive seen it A LOT at this point. i think its the lack of forehead movement? its hard to pin point

Honestly I do think like with Meta's avatar VR chat and Nintdo Miis do it better and I wonder why this super convoled why of making a fake video call/avatar hybrid when not just go all out on one or the other? Like since it don't have warping I can see Apple using all those sensors to make an Ironman like helmet cam or you know just use memogis that are critally under used and under devloped or both.

I think I saw an interview, there are working on a full body scan. Can wait for that!

So, the 3d personas are displayed on a flat screen?? When I first saw this I thought the personas could be present in your virtual space. I'm sorry, but this whole windowed UI approach is quite dated now.

Excellent video! Thanks for sharing the insights that you discovered. These Personas already look good, especially with the microexpressions. It’s obviously stuck *right in the middle* of the Uncanny Valley, but the Personas are still admittedly Beta. Just imagine what a couple of updates will bring! It’s an exciting time. Is battleship the best VR game for avp? You literally dragged a video chat screen with stereoscopic 180. The slathering is utterly befuddling. Does avp come with a memory wipe?
