If you're going to a place that needs a reservation you're going to be over paying that's a fact, most places don't require a reservation only the expensive ones like every other country in the entire world.

I think maybe it’s also to ensure a spot when you want to go there. I can’t speak for Iceland but in Denmark, even for non fancy restaurants, many book just in case as you might have the chance to show up and no seats being available because many book for the same reason: to make sure they have a spot. So maybe this could be a reason for it as well in Iceland I would guess as a fellow nordic 🥴👌

@@amalias7548 it literally just depends on if its a fancy place or not. Completely unrelated but did you know that Denmark systematically starved the Icelandic people for generations because they wanted to squeeze as much money out of us as possible? Also we gained independence by holding a vote you guys legally had the right to go to according to your laws but we chose to have it while you were occupied by the nazis. That's the reason we jokingly say we hate the Danish even though we have good relations because you guys used to be assholes in the past.

We got kfc and for usd it was $89 for three people-NOT EVEN A BIG MEAL! Isk is so low compared to USD it might’ve changed since we were there in June of 2022 but it was like 0.0073 ISK to the USD. But they put their prices at a high amount

that’s a very bad thing to do in the US, employees basically survive exclusively off tips there, they get paid next to nothing
@thorstmixx
@thorstmixx Жыл бұрын
@@CEO-of-moneyThat's exactly why we don't tip anywhere else. If we started tipping, the restaurant business would try to pull that same stunt here as they have in the USA, and stop paying their employees.

@@thorstmixx yeah, i’m not disagreeing, i’m canadian, but if america stopped tipping then all those employees would starve at this point, the US takes a long time to pass laws, meaning it would be years before they get paid a livable wage.

It’s not at all, i work in tourism as we get really happy when somebody tips us. Prices are high in Iceland but that doesn’t mean we get paid super well. So a tip is always nice especially when you dont expect it.

O thanks for telling people not to tip minimumwage workers!
@berserkurhrafn
@berserkurhrafn 10 ай бұрын
Minimum wage works very differently here. They're actually paid a decent enough wage, no one that lives here ever tips. Ever. It's only in the US and Canada where tipping is practically mandatory due to the workers hardly getting paid, I guess. At least it was very weird as an Icelander to encounter the tipping culture or the US, I didn't even know how to so it.
