Hairstylist here extensions only damage your hair if you don’t get them installed properly or you don’t properly take care of them! I’ve had extensions in my hair for years straight with no breaks and I’ve never experienced any damage to my natural hair. If anything it has allowed my natural hair to grow super long and healthy!!

@elenagomez45489 ай бұрын
Clip ins are fine as long as your not pulling at your natural hair🥰 if it feels uncomfortable it’s because it’s pulling. Just make sure you apply them carefully and take them out every night too

what kind of extensions do you have?

Plus the images shown would not be considered traction hair loss. Those are like breakage, which are totally different. You won’t be able to really see traction hair loss until it’s severe.

Yes and improper install impacts this! But the right extention method for your hair type installed properly shouldn't cause issues. I have extremely fine hair with nano bead extentions that are sectioned using triangles with lots of hair (all hair is vertical, never forced over and not too close to the scalp) so no hair is being pulled into the bead. I've been wearing them for 1 year, 4 months (with maintenance every 8 weeks) and my hair has grown almost 4 inches! The photo looks like a really bad install of k-tip extentions.. the hair is visibly being pulled and it is far to close to the root 😳
@mizzlarabee Жыл бұрын
Agreed! I have weft extensions and have worn them for 1.5 years with no issues. I make sure to not go longer than 8 weeks between maintenance appts and my hair stylist does a complete reinstall every other service. With the reinstall the wefts are placed on slightly different sections of hair, which naturally gives the previous section a “break” from traction. I also think proper care at home needs to be factored in too. So many people get extensions and don’t take proper care with brushing daily and tying it up to sleep.

4 inches of growth in 2 years? That’s pretty bad…
@natashaadamson353 Жыл бұрын
@@zzzzera I used to average about half an inch a year because of breakage from hot tools to try and make my hair look "better". I have had extentions for 1 year and 4 months to be exact so 4 inches is a huge stretch for me

Ive done hair extensions for 10 years and I have seen so many peoples hair damaged from traction alopecia. If you have them, make sure you have the correct method and the bonds should not be that close to the scalp.. so many terrible technicians out there. If you go to the right person however, they can be amazing.

There are several other forms of adding hair extensions. The extension method mentioned is only one of many. However, every aspect of the installation is important and can factor if it damages the wearer's hair. The install, the maintenance and the take down all play vital roles. Usually it is the wearer's error. They usually leave them in too long or take them down on their own. I was a DIYer in high school and messed hair up with every step of the process.

If you can feel your extensions from tension they are too close to the scalp and will cause breakage and hair loss.
