I love my 2006 Matrix. I gave my wife my Lexus GS300 after I married her and bought the Matrix. Since 2006, I had never have to drive more than 8 miles a day forth and back from work. For the last 1 year, I have to drive 71 miles a day forth and back from work. I gave up and bought a 2019 Hyunday Kona EV. I can't go back to the lawn mower of the Matrix for work anymore. I can feel every bump on the road in that car. Because of the loud engine/tires/wind noise, I have to really crank up the radio to listen to the news. It's not like that because it is old, it has always been like that since day 1. However, I am still keeping my Matrix for out of state driving for my photography hobby. I can sleep in the back of my Matrix by myself comfortably. Never need motel for my 1 to 2 weeks photography trips. I have been traveling through many states with my Matrix. Travel alone like a hobo is very relaxing.

I have an 06' 5 speed XR and it really is a sleeper in terms of cargo space and utility. With the back and the passenger seats folded down you could easily fit 2 people and a dog for sleeping, and the inverter makes it invaluable for bringing a consistent source of AC power to remote places.

Agreed ! These cars are very noisy on the road... HOWEVER....that can be fixed with sound deadening in all doors, lifting up the carpet ( without removing ) and adding it there, cargo mat helps with road noise, doubling up on floor mats front and rear....and most importantly.... QUIET tires. Trust me, I own the Pontiac vibe, which is the sister vehicle 😎....it will be a totally different car if you follow those steps. I have owned this car for 12 years and it rides quieter than when I first purchased it.....even with front ebay struts LOL 😎

. Exactly I love the Camry from 97 to 2001 but they're not perfect even with a good suspension you're still going to get some squeaky sounds going over bumps when driving slow but is better than driving a Honda civic 2000 that drives perfectly smooth over bumps but has all kinds of performance issues I had one I got rid it nothing beats a Camry 4th generation when it comes to being the most reliable and easiest car to work on as long as you do the preventive maintenance this cars can go 450 thousand miles with the original engine and transmission and even if you abuse them you'll get a minimum of 230 thousand miles which is better than most American cars that quit at 130 thousand miles I know this because I owned both American cars and hondas and toyotas. Toyota can be boring but it will save you money and headaches except for the newer ones 2002 Camry was probably the worst ever and they will never be as good as the 4th generation models heck Camry is even better than the Corolla or the celica that scotty has.

My recommendation for buying electric cars is stay away from the Leaf. Their battery packs have insufficient cooling and they tend to wear out quite fast. All other manufacturers employ some sort of active cooling to keep the battery pack cooled/heated. If it's a low mileage one in a place like California, it may be OK. But more hot/cold climates may see higher loss of total range on a full charge due to degradation.

But used a quart of oil every 1000 miles and Toyota said this was normal. When I sold it the car had 25000 miles on it and used 2 1/2 quarts of oil every 1000 miles and Toyota still said that was normal. I would never buy a Toyota junk.

I own an 04 matrix xr since zero miles. The c59 5-speed transmission died at 80,000 miles, even after changing the oil twice on it! I installed a c60 6-speed transmission from an 04 Celica gts, and it hasn't given me any troubles at all anymore, even after 400,000miles, and it's still going! As for the suspension, I have Tokico HP shocks, and TRD springs. It sits 1.25" lower in the front, and 1" lower in the rear. Stiff ride, but it handles the way it should have handled from factory. It's slow as he'll, but it suits my needs.

Car fax is not 100% reliable because the information is only what is reported by dealers and some repair shops. The mileage at title transfers is reliable. When shopping craigslist for a scion tc for our son 5 years ago we caught two odometer roll backs and one hidden multiple owner history. Ultimately we did find an honest tc that is running great to this day.

I used to drive a V50 1.8 Diesel for 2 years. Unfortunately it's hardly a Volvo at all. The V50/S40 shares many parts with the Ford Focus and the engine was designed by PSA. Had a 2005 matrix. Best car I’ve ever had till my son wrecked it! Had 235,000 on it and was just a baby. Could have gone 200,000 more easily. But I’ll agree with a little rough ride. But if you can get over that awesome car.

For the dude looking to soup up the 03 civic, I have one myself and it’s not worth it fam. The D17A2 is butt and only puts out 127hp and has economical Vtec. I would just lower it on coils, give it some wheels and make it look nice. Also recommend upgrading the front brakes to drilled and slotted, helped me out a lot

I've owned a 2003 Matrix for 13 years. Only good expierence about it. Its indeed a little rough on standart 205\55\16 tires. I like it more on 215\65\16 tires. And in my opinion the worst thing about the car is the side mirrors. You can't really see anyting in them, they don't fold and don't have heating. Also Matrix has no noise insulation and the headlights are not so good. And although I had the maximum XRS version, I had to install seat heating myself

I have a 2009 Vibe with the 1.8 engine. On truly cold starts (like the car has sat overnight) the car will start right up - no problems. If it has only been sitting an hour or two though, the car will struggle to start. I don't have to keep cranking, but it will stumble and falter until it really catches, and then will smooth out and behave normally. During that stumble and struggle I will hear the VVTI gear rattle just very briefly. On normal starts I do not hear it at all. Possible suspects: 1) dirty throttle body 2) Mass Air Filter sensor 3) fuel pump 4) VVTI gear 5) Spark plugs / coils 6) clogged fuel injectors. Any other ideas? I'd appreciate anyone's opinion and advice on how to diagnose for certain.

Cousin Jude ... I live in central AZ and see an absurd plethora of 4WD and AWD vehicles that will operate in minimal rain, no snow and very rare muddy roads. The SUV models used for dry, level commuting are a sin to have equipped with AWD, yet there are thousands out there. More expensive. More things to fail. More commission for the sales person.

Hi I am already at over 208,000 miles with my Toyota Matrix XR automatic transmission. It is a very well designed vehicle that does need maintenance like any vehicle. However, there are so many second source parts available for my car. You don't have to buy OEM parts from Toyota for 3 or 4 times the price of great second source parts. Most or all of these parts come from China, India, or south east asia already. Huge containers arrive at the Toyota assemble plants being placed into the new Toyotas as OEM parts every day.

Totally agree. I have an Impreza, and I hate to admit it but the ride is rough. It's very similar to the Matrix in terms of its build and shape. I'd take a Corolla sedan over my Impreza on long trips tbh. The Corolla's ride is much more dampered and boat-like - better on harsh bumps and road imperfections.

Hey there, I’m in the market of possibly buying an 08 Toyota Matrix and I’m trying to fall in love with it to help push my decision more towards spending the $7770 that he wants. It’s automatic and has minor cosmetic issues that can be fixed/painted. The 4 speed worries me bc I am use to a 5 speed. I like to go on long road trips to Utah/California. Not sure if this is a good choice for myself although the car camping space would be phenomenal.
