Had my first Kia, a ceed, for 8 years without it ever breaking down, or having any faults. In fact, it was so reliable that I gave it to my wife rather than trade it in. She still has it, and now it's 11 years old and having a new wiper switch fitted next week. I have a Kia sportage that is nearly 7 years old, and guess what? It's never broken down, never failed in any way, a totally dependable and reliable vehicle.

Hyundai and Kia has stepped their game up the past few years, there was a dark period of time they was going through, like any other car manufacture. They have really good warranty's and plus the accents are just as reliable as corollas, they even offer more creature comforts then a corolla at a way lower price point.

It's what he does. You can pick any make and model and trash it and find good reasons to do so, but all in all, like I said, buying any vehicle is a crap shoot. You get a good one or you get a bad one. It's all relative. Take care of it and maintain it on a regular basis and any car should give you good service. Most people don't even change the oil so what can you expect.

As a DIY, home mechanic person, I like my Kia. A lot. It's relatively easy to work on, and parts are reasonably priced. I've got over 180,000 miles on my 2013 Soul, and it's still rolling strong. No major issues, just normal wear and tear replacement of parts: alternator, battery, brake pads, front passenger wheel bearing, radiator fan, is about all I've had to repair so far. Of course, we all know what opinions are like, but imho, Kia makes a good car.

I had a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. I had to replace the A/C compressor at 50K miles, the brake light switch at 75K, shocks/struts at 80K and then the engine blew up at 113K. Luckily, Hyundai replaced the engine under “warranty” but still made me pay $550 towards it. Oh yeah, and I consistently got only 26-27 mpg. Hyundais and Kias have gotten a lot better over the years. Just be careful buying a used one. In my personal experience as a mechanic, Korean cars seem to be abused and neglected by their owners more than others. It amazed me how reluctant Kia owners were to even change their oil at all. Yeaahhhh..Hyundai had engine shavings problems...I'm not sure any other company experienced this ever before actually to my knowledge, really screwed my mom over, I'll never buy anything from many companys ever used or new for many reliability reasons, they need to build easily serviceable (DIY) and stop worrying about dealerships because let's call it like it is people are only getting more information about things they don't care about and for alot of people, like my mother for example that's cars she likes some cars and suvs better than some but could care less and nowadays I'm looking very deeply into every single material used in a vehicle from interior to engine bay to wheel well to random trim and clips and rubber and after we got her a Honda civic she agreed she won't be buying another car or going to any shop without the advice of a mechanic, car guy, engineer all of which I am, mechanics are ocassionally dirty and some car companys are pure trash I have no idea how they haven't been sued completely out of business trust what scotty says...and the fact that Honda and Toyota has a recent solid 30 years of reliable and easy to work on vehicles to pick from, no matter how much money you make...most part replacements are because of cheap build quality and bad materials on newer vehicles, with the type of engineering that surely was begging for parts to be unservicable , chevy and mercedes and bmw and Chrysler are built horrendously and to wish them on my worst enemy would be bold

It was a factory issue where the crankshaft pulley bolt was not torqued down sufficiently enough. Just did a trip to Florida and back with no issues. the air conditioner has never been touched and was so cold the wife and kids complained. Bought 2 Rio's for 2 kids and 3 forte's for kids and wife and we love them. Had a dodge caravan and tranny went at 45k, electrical issues traded in for 2007 KIA Sedona and couldn't be happier. So an 11 year old car has a bad compressor.... Mileage is irrelevant unfortunately. I've worked for major dealerships for 10+ years. Good parts go bad all the time. I wouldn't have a job if they didn't. That goes for Kia, Honda, Toyota, etc.. I like Scotty but this is a little absurd.

MadBurrito x it’s not totally irrelevant but you have to factor in many different things when comparing the two. In texas people are going to be using their ac a ton, putting a lot of wear on the ac components. Maybe the owner of the sportage used their ac basically all the time and that may not be the case on the celica. I’m sure there are plenty of celica owners who have had to replace their ac compressor at or below 100k miles and plenty of sportage owners who haven’t had to replace it at all

When a company gives you a 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, that says something positive to me. I remember when Ford and Chrysler went from a 7 yr/ 70,000 mile warranty down to a 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty, the transmission clutches and A/C systems and other things were made a lot cheaper and broke down more frequently. I worked at a Ford dealership, had a lot of problems with my Ranger. I Bought a Tacoma and never had so much as a rattle or squeak in 75,000 miles when I sold it. Toyota makes a great product. I bought the KIA because it was cheap. I hate the name though and I bet most veterans do as well (KIA, Killed In Action).

I did all the work on it from the time it was new, at the specified intervals, with OEM parts. The only problem it ever had over 300k miles of road trips and daily driving was the intake boot tore behind the MAF. Easy fix. He sold it because he wanted a bolt.
