Also Ponce massacre was an event that took place on Palm Sunday, 21 March 1937, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, when a peaceful civilian march turned into a police and soldiers of the U.S. shooting in which 19 civilians and two policemen were killed, and more than 200 civilians wounded. Most of the dead were reportedly shot in their back. The Río Piedras massacre occurred on October 24, 1935, at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. Local police officers under U.S. command confronted and opened fire on supporters of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party. Four Nationalist Party members were killed, and one police officer was wounded during the shooting. One session exposed the destruction of the environment. Testimony from the city of Guayama - where coal plants poison the earth with carbon ash and heavy metals, causing maladies among the residents - indicted U.S. corporations. From the island of Vieques, testimony exposed how the U.S. Navy tested weapons there for over 60 years, poisoning the soil and the people. Puerto Rico was ILLEGALLY ceded to the United States by Spain. Under the terms of the Constitutional Autonomy agreement between Spain and Puerto Rico in 1897, Spain could not modify the status of Puerto Rico without the consent of the Puerto Rican Parliament. In other words, it was no longer legally their possession to cede to the United States.

Yes Caparra was established like you mentioned but it was moved to present day "Old San Juan" originally named Puerto Rico, the main island (Yes there's more than one(1)) was named San Juan Bautista after John The Baptist, then switched! 3. The Commonwealth Status (Estado Libre Asociado) was really established in 1952, approved by 80% of the US Congress speared by the first governor elected by the Puerto Rican people Don. Another thing is that the Taino name is Boriken not Borinquen which is the Spaniard (Spanish) way to say it and why they name it Puerto Rico? I don't know put we should ask the residents of the city of Puerto Rico in Spain to see what they think lol. Original name was San Juan Bautista, Caparra (the oldest continuous European Settlement in US territory) was funded by De Leon, but due for the mosquito infested area and the hardship to find potable water the capitol was moved to Puerto Rico, now Old San Juan. The lamb in Puerto Rico state seal represents San Juan the Baptist. The name was switched later on to San Juan the capital and Puerto Rico the Island.

Whomever wishes to be clear on Puerto Rico's political status, please look up "Ley Foraker" from 1900 and "Ley 600" from 1952 and you will see clearly that the "territory" belongs to, but it's not part of the US. This video is poorly researched, and I do not think it was just by mistake. Misinformation is an instrument to keep things the way they are, just do your own research.

Here we go again! If you want to hold your breath regarding the correct semantics you can continue to hold your breath all you want. This "ownership" you claim, includes everything, even the citizens. Yes, the US citizenship was imposed on the people of PR, making you "part of" or "member" or citizen of the USA. They did that in order to draft able men into WWI, not because any altruistic feelings. So, you can use all the different word arrangements you want but at the end of the day PR is part of the US, like it or not. Semantics or not. I'm not demeaning your independence beliefs and I commend you for them but, facts are facts. To summarize in one word, the whole video SUCKS!

@@sherriv4860 In my opinion, he’s one of the worst things that ever happened to Puerto Rican politics due to that same reason. “Commonwealth” is just a fancy word to cover up the colonial status in this context. There’s many folks that sacrifice led their whole lives for sovereignty and Puerto Ricans’ well being. Juan Antonio Corretjer, Lolita Lebrón, Ramón Emterio Betances, Pedro Albizu Campos, etc. That’s without getting into the artists, poets, etc. Good luck on your mural.

Puertoricans never wanted to be U.S. citizens it was imposed upon them. To this day the U.S. government is against the people of Puerto Rico, they are now protesting cause of a curry or governor who was installed by the federal government. Puerto Rico is poorly treated by our government, it should not become a state Spanish would no longer be spoken as well as losing its cultural identity.
