Rest in Peace - Warren S. Bivin - May 4, 1939 - September 27, 2021
Thank you all for the loving words they meant a lot to my Grandpa and they continuously make my day. Wishing everyone the best. - Jonah
The 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 is not the rarest, most valuable, or fastest car on Earth; however, it is the most important car on Earth to me because it belonged to my grandfather. My grandfather was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease and it takes a while for a family to learn that diseases don't define you. We found my war veteran grandpa his first car and suprised him with it around Christmas time in 2014. This made for one the most special days of my life and a story that I will be able to tell my grandkids when I get older. It truly was an amazing experience.
Today I tell you why the 19

The Ford Fairlane saw some serious renovations in 1957 as it became sleeker and more powerful. The fairlane was the perfect choice for a dad that needed to cart around his family and also have some power under the hood. The thunderbird special 312v V8 is a very powerful engine for its age and the dual exhaust sound great! This is definetely one cool classic.

I bought a used red & black '57 Ford Fairlane 500 with a 292 V8 automatic that I drove from NJ to South Florida in 1966. It blew a timing chain at a Texaco gas station on Rt 301 in Santee, South Carolina on Labor Day weekend. The station owner knew a guy at a local parts store and got a new chain on Labor Day. 7 hours later, I was on my way. I wish I still had that car. A very cool ride.

That is an awesome story. As a teenager, still too young to drive, I was in love with the 1957 Ford. Every day my route home from school took me past the Ford dealership's used car lot where there almost always were multiple 1957 Fords. I lingered in that lot. The manager got to know me and would let me sit in the cars, let me run my hands over the fins, etc. Alas, I never was able to own a 1957 Ford. I had a couple of 1958 models but never a 1957.

That is a beautiful classic. It means much to me, too. My parents bought that same model new in 1957. Theirs was also the Fairlane 500 2 door Town Sedan not the hard top. Theirs had the bright work trim around the door and rear windows. They didn't get the 312 but the standard V8, the 292 with the Fordomatic with power steering and the radio and clock in the dashboard. My mom wanted the two tone grey. Sadly, the rust belt of Pittsburgh took its toll and I last saw it in 63 when my dad traded it in on a later newer Dodge. Still have a love for the 57 Fords, and their cousins, the late 50s Fairlanes. Love your story of your generosity towards your grandpa!

My first car was a 58 Fairlane with the exact same color scheme. It belonged to my parents, and they gave it to me after I wrecked it. Thanksgiving day in Bend, a community near Red Bluff CA, mom needed potatoes. I was 16 and drove my girlfriend, Carol to the store to get some potatoes, but not before stopping by the Sacramento River so I could show her the salmon spawning in the riffle. Then, heading for the store, she kissed me as I was making a 90 degree turn. I couldnt see, and took out a power pole, which put a large vee into the grill and radiator of the Ford. It also put two dents into the dashboard where her knees hit and knocked out the power to our entire community while their turkeys were in the oven. Carol and I are 71 now, with 3 daughters and lots of grandchildren. She was a good kisser. I spent a lot of time dreaming about fixing that Fairlane. Mom got a new 63 Mercury Marauder, but my first movable car was a Hillman Husky wagon, a British car made of cardboard. I'm in my dotage, now, and have overcompensated. Im on my third Miata. I will never forget the Fairlane. Whatta car.

Love your car and don't ever sell it. My Dad bought a yellow and white 57 Ford 2 Dr hrd top for my oldest brother first car in 1969 ,after high school he wanted a 67 must gt 390 fastback in 1972, so dad past the 57 down to next sibling brother till his high school graduation in 1975,he then bought a 70 mach 1 .then my next brother in line got it for his first car and drove it till his graduation 1978.he then bought a 71 mach 1 .then it was my turn for my 1st car,and I drove it till 1982. I then purchased a 68 Gt 390 fastback, and Dad got 57 back, and since then it has been in storage for 37 yrs. My Dad has been gone for 10 yrs now,I took over our family car buisness, and am the care taker of the 57 Fairlane Victoria ,oh yeah it was always a hot rodder gasser style, and is still a car no one forgets in our area.it was our families most loved car, even more than our mustangs, and we all still have those mustangs yet. The best days ever. And oh yeah my Dad also owned a 65 Shelby gt 350 for a couple yrs but parted with it for profit, but will always have the memories. Its a car that even hard core Chevy guys would tell me that they loved that car, that says alot about the 57 Ford's, the biggest shame is so many of them were destroyed, and in the Midwest many were junked out because they rusted out so bad around the headlights and rockers.that was one big reason to their demies.

My first car was a 57 Ford Fairlane. It was built for a Ford factory executive and was essentially a COPO car. I heard those cars went through the assembly plant twice. I think this may be true as the trunk was filled with brand new extra parts i.e. carpets, hub caps, floor mats and every manner of expendables. He mentioned the car was also painted twice at the factory. I agree, the car is more appealing that a 57 Chevy.

Robert Didier Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Your Grandfather must be a very special person to have Father and Grandson go to great lengths to make a senior member of your family relive happy memories of the past, it’s a beautiful car and I know your Grandfather will treasure it. When I was 24 back in 1966 my Step father gave me his 1958 Ford Fairlane two door two tone car (bronze and cream). It was a straight six with bench seats, large trunk and a hood that opened from the front. Ouch! I caught my fingers when Once I slammed the hood down. The radiator leaked and I constantly had to fill it with water once the engine was cooled. I used this car to visit my future wife who lived in Montreal, I in Toronto. The car served me well. My wife always said she loved this car because it was the only car we ever had with bench seats which were great when cuddling especially at a drive-in.

Jim, Im 73 and love the 50s cars. I had a 57 Ford Fairlane 500 convertible which I paid 450 dollars in my junior year of high school 1965. I liked the 55, 56 and 57 Chevys. Same for the 55,56 and 57 Fords. The 58 Ford not so much but the 59 Ford was a great car. Chrysler Dodge cars were like boats with rear fins but they had huge engines and would fly. Love the old cars.

Jim ,dont forget the T-Birds.55, 56 57 were beautiful cars. I loved the round rear windows and the single bench seat. Then in 58 they made it into a sedan with a back seat. In my opinion that ruined the T-Bird. Adios my friend.

That's a great story I can relate to it as I have Parkinson's too. My first car was a 70 Mustang Mach 1 which I still own today. My son is 47 years old when he was two weeks-old I drove my car on the Bonneville Salt Flats with him in it riding on the console between the two bucket seats. I told him he was probably the only human being in the world that was 2 weeks old that went down the Bonneville Salt Flats. It was a great thing you did for your grandpa I wished I had a grandson like you but I don't.

Just stumbled across your video. My story: I was a 10yo in 1957, my father was career AF and we were stationed at Tinker AFB in Okla City. My father got orders to go to Karachi, Pakistan and back in those days, families could go, so we did. Before leaving, dad exchanged the car we had (forget what it was) for a brand new 1957 red and white Ford Fairlane 500 soft top convertible. In this day and age, my folks would have been charged with child endangerment because when the top was down, my brother and I would sit on the top of the back seat where the top folded into. When we went to Pakistan, we took the car. Once we arrived and dad started working where he did, a rich Pakistani offered him $10k cash for the car and we could keep it while for the 18mo we were going to be there. Unfortunately, dad wasn't of a high enough rank (he was an officer but not high enough up) or on diplomatic status so it was illegal for him to sell it. We took it from there to Athens, Greece, for the year we were there and then brought it back to the states. On the trip over, the ship's crew would go down into the hold, turn a car on and listen to the radio until the battery died. When we got it, they gave us 1gal of gas to get it going...we couldn't. Dad had it towed to a dealer near the base and traded it in on a new Plymouth Valiant push button drive. I still miss that '57 convertible. It was beautiful, fun to ride in and caught people's eyes. Glad you were able to find that one for your grandparents.

When Marjory and I married in December 21, 1956 I had just bought a four door 1957 Ford 500 with big motor with a 4 barrel carburetor. It would squeal the tires in all three gears. The way I drove it got 7 miles per gallon. It was a sort of gold color. Beautiful car.

My Dad still has a 57 Ford Fairlane 4 door creamsicle color in his garage. He’s 95 and I think he bought it when it was a few years old. It was the first car I drove when I turned 16. We didn’t appreciate the cars as much then as we do now.

"Fairlane" was taken from the name of the Ford estate and bestowed on this beautiful car . My Dad had a Crown Victoria Fairlane '55. Very rare as Ford had a strike that year an less production . Any man would be fortunate to have family like you do something that nice for him .

I will tell you, what you did for your grandfather is one of the greatest things anyone can do to show there love for his grandparents. I use to have a black 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible with the continental kit in the back, i am not sure if you remember them or you can ask your grandfather, they were nice cars with all that chrome in the back and the spare tire right there. Beautiful cars. As a Old Vietnam veteran myself, thanks for what you did here for your Grandpa.

Had the same red & white Fairlane that I bought in1961 in Denver; then moved to Texas in 1962-1/2. I was always working on it (valve-lifters?). Traded it in on my all-time favorite: a 1963 Galaxie XL, gold bronze hardtop coupe which I drove 'til I re-married, had two kids and needed a station wagon: a '73 Ford with 427-in V-8. Still, the '57 Fairlane was a gorgeous car. Today, I have a 20-year-old silver Mustang which I'm sorta crazy about. You'll have to forgive a soon-to-be 84-year-old!

This exact car was my first! But with the original "power signal seeking" radio, and the "police interceptor" 312 engine ... and power steering. Three speed Ford-O-Matic auto tranny ... which I replaced with a 3-speed manual & Hurst shifter after a year or so. Got about 10 mpg unless I was in a hurry ... then about 6, but that was all on drip gas from the pipelines crossing the area. Drip gas? If you didn't grow up in the oil patch, you have no clue.

Great story about your grandpa, you, and your dad. That said I TOTALLY admire his taste. Though I love the '57 Belair, it doesn't match up well against the MOST gorgeous car of all time. The Chevy gets the love, but that Ford is the pinnacle of auto design. Hope your Grandpa is STILL doing well, end of 2019. But know this. That GIFT made his latter years.
