What makes an economy car like the Honda Civic so great? There are literally many whom appreciate it and there's those that are still in wonder why. Well, here is my personal 2000 Honda Civic DX hatchback in the rare taffetta white and my reasons for it's popularity.

Got some of my muscle head friends into hondas when they drove in my old school 89 sadan civic. A common thing they would always say when discussing about honda is how ergo the car is, and how there is almost 0 blind spots in the car compared to mustangs and camros. some even bought their first civics and secretly loved them even tho they "hated" hondas hahah.

I know, this is a fairly old video, but I wanna contribute with my experiences. I'm an Apprentice in germany and testdrove the civic of my brother. I don't know why, but I fell in love with it. For me, it's the simplicity of the car. I have the E-Package with E-Mirrors and Windows, heated mirrors and ac, but with the D14Z2, so it's 90 HP. I do like cars with 200 HP+, BUT 90 HP are fine. I paid around 3 grand for my EJ9 with less than 50k miles on it and despite the fact, I sometimes miss the comfort of heated seats and heated windshields, it's such a pure driving experience, sitting low, quite a loud engine, ABS only and so on. What I also like is the engine. It's 90 HP, yes. But on the Autobahn, you can step on it and listen to the quite sporty induction sound of that lovely 4-banger and you're still under the speed limit (if there is one). Basically every road outside bigger cities can be a racetrack and as I drive more that 400 miles per week and therefore drive quite conservative, the "punch" of that N/A engine at higher rpm's don't feel like a letdown, if you don't happen to be in a situation, where you're standing still and other cars pass you with 50mph+ and you want to get going again. It's enough to be fun. I achieve around 39 mpg in the summer regularly. I haven't modded it much and I don't think I will do so, just exchanged the front lights for better ones and the tail lights are getting changed soon for led's. It's not meant to be ricey, but safer. For me, the civic is what it is. Plain and simple, a ticket into the JDM scene and in it's condition, it is fullfilling to live with it. To be honest, if I was given the choice between a Golf 7 GTI and this, I would take the civic again, becauss it's pure, not even close to perfect and reliable. Disclaimer: My uncle drove a GTI for long, now has an R, so I know what I choose.

It’s not just because of doing swaps on the car that made it popular. It was part of a lifestyle in the 90s way before fast and furious. If your one of the few like me that had that lifestyle you know. Swaps are whatever you can literally do any engine in any car period! The good old days in the west coast!

These cars are so fun even the slower versions. Use the proper weight oil, throw a k&n air filter, stiffen up the suspension and man fun as hell daily even in stock form 😎 spacious, comfy, great on gas, easy to work on, simple mods make them look really good. Get a good head unit and speakers and u got a super good reliable economical yet cool daily especially with cold ac 😁

H22 or J series swap would do the job
@EdwardFeenman
@EdwardFeenman 5 жыл бұрын
@@shahrulnizam4713 why would you do either of those? The h series is generations old, not being developed any longer by the aftermarket, and increasingly hard to get parts for, that and the only strong point it did have, a larger displacement is irrelevant now with a k24. The j has all the same problems with the added negative of being the heaviest option available. Those are both horrible ideas.
@jameshaulenbeek5931
@jameshaulenbeek5931 5 жыл бұрын
@@EdwardFeenman to be fair, the cost of a H swap is typically a good deal less, so if the person is on a tighter budget, a H22 mated to a B series transmission can net you loads of power for less money. That said, a B swap would be even less, a good bit lighter, and still very capable.

I only did a straight pipe air filter on the stock intake switched the exhaust manifold to a 97 to get rid of the cat, full custom 2" exhaust, cherry bomb straight pipe(burned out) with some brass brillo pad pack (for the resonator pipe) into a cherry bomb "turbo" (for the muffler) and was able to get her up to 115 on the freeway easily!!! The steering feel on that old Civic is better then anything currently in production (Assuming summer wheels and upgraded suspension). When I had my (5MT DX bought brand new...Canadian DX came with a tachometer), I'd purposely make sure the car is moving before I cranked the steering, cause I didn't want to wear out the steering rack. After driving it for 300,000km, steering still felt like new. With Prokit spring and Tokico shocks, was easily the best handling car i've ever owned (for the streets).

Agreed.... I Had a 2018 Nissan Sentra rental for a half of a day.... ZERO: Steering feel, delayed braking, delayed throttle tip in, felt like I was in a school bus, strange seating height....very strange gearing, once you were committed to anything, you may as well stay with it because making corrections just wasn't gonna happen quickly!!! Just every single thing about it was garbage except it had less road noise than my 370z, but it was actually scary to drive, and was happy to get back in my Z at the end of that day!

No need to use 91 octane. The owners manual only calls for 86 octane. Using a higher octane won't improve engine performance. Octane only prevents pinging in engines with higher compression. Your Honda will run best with regular 87 octane gas.
@danielmoukli4590
@danielmoukli4590 5 жыл бұрын
not necessarily. if the engine has a knock sensor it can take advantage of higher octane fuel by advancing ignition. in this case, what you're saying holds true, as that motor doesn't have a KS.

The Civic hatchback VX is like 40s-50s mpg, the HX is also great. The hatchback shell with swap engine is the best power/weight ratio and money in the pocket, don't forget the roll cage. That automatic DX is like 30's mpg in the city, sadly the used price is almost similar to the early 2000's Corollas with better options, same dependability, and same mileage.

Ya for some reason these cars are just nice to drive and fun. The plus for these cars is that there is pretty much no more depreciation for it. But they do run around2 to 5k $$$ depending on how the car is

My 2003 Honda Civic EX regularly gets 40 mpg; my 2012 Honda Civic Si averages around 32-33 mpg. A lot of a driver's mpg depends on where you drive and how you drive. I guess some Civics aren't as good as others but I wouldn't hesitate to buy any generation of Civic.

@@eddiebreelz4226 For sure you need a few buddies and a few cases of brew. Lol. Shit, since you're swapping out the transmission, just go with a b20b that's going for $350-$450. Exedy clutch kit is $150, p75 LS ecu/intake manifold is dirt cheap. You can source out B-series axels, shift linkage, mounts all day long. Find a cheap LS transmission or else a B16/gsr and there you have a b20b swap for dirt cheap. Run 14 sec flat with bolt ons. 😆 Toss on a VTEC head, 13.5s or better. 👍

so did my seventh gen civic, but that's a problem for that gen. i know quite a few people daily driving older sohc civics with 0 issues. in short, the p/o fucked you and if you bought it new back in the 90's you fucked yourself. Maintenance is crucial with Honda cars, people neglect maintenance because it still runs fine at the time and eventually it shits the bed big time.
