The spoiler is small because you don't need to add down force to the rear of a FWD car, it's just there to look good (and not hit anything else). It would actually go imperceptibly faster without a spoiler due to the weight saving and reduced drag...

From playing Automation Tycoon I learned why FWD cars need rear spoilers. Tunning a FWD car so it doesn't heavily understeer could cause instability at higher speeds (excessive oversteer), the spoiler is speed dependant, so it a bit of downforce in the rear keeps the wheels on the ground during high speed cornering.

Doug, have you considered a non-linear scale for the acceleration score? For example: Score: 0-60 time 10: less than 3.0 seconds 9 3.0 to 3.5 seconds 8: 3.6 to 4.2 seconds 7: 4.3 to 5.0 seconds 6: 5.1 to 5.9 seconds 5: 6.0 to 6.9 seconds 4: 7.0 to 8.0 seconds 3: 8.1 to 9.2 seconds 2: 9.3 to 10.5 seconds 1: greater than 10.5 seconds As you can see, just increasing the length of the interval by .1 seconds for each lower score, you don't wind up with such an excessive bias toward straight-line performance, and allow for things like hot hatches to have scores to reflect how fast they feel, like this Fiesta ST.

You're absolutely right. By design, the hook at the end of the prop rod will grab the center piece between the prop holes and keep the hood from disengaging from the rod in the event of a gust of wind, thus eliminating the chance of getting a "hood on the head" :)

Doug missed one quirk: if you keep the ESC button pressed for 5 seconds you go into the most aggressive mode with the electronic aids turned fully off. Also, the gap above the glove box is not meaningless, in the dark you'd notice it projects downwards soft red light to help you find your balls or whatever. It's actually a quite nice feature.

@@bellaollie2037 That's going to be the case. The suspension, motor and manual trans are what make the Fiesta ST special. The interior is obviously hardly better than the regular fiesta because the FiST is still an economy car. It's all about driving experience and it truly delivers there. It's the most fun car I've ever driven. Good gas mileage when you want it and rotates like a RWD car in corners. As a daily, I'd take it over my homies S550 Mustang GT performance.

That one must be a 2017 or 2018 for two reasons. The gap above the glovebox used to have ambient lighting come out of it until 2016; that was it's ultimate purpose since the Fiesta came to the states in 2010, but they dropped it because people were complaining that it reflected on the passenger door window. And my 2016 doesn't have the wind deflector by the side mirrors. The storage space between the cupholder and shifter is actually handy for small stuff, but the one by the dash is useless as you noted. My arm actually doesn't hit the armrest when I shift so it really depends on your body type. I believe the early years of the Fiesta ST had the antenna actually hit the spoiler (as evidenced by this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lZafqLyrvdadZok.html ). I'm sure they shortened the antenna rather than changing the spoiler design. Motorocraft is Ford OEM. You missed out on the factory option Recaro seats. They change the car completely in the corners in my opinion.

I don't often disagree with Doug, but I've driven both the Fiesta ST and a Focus ST and the Fiesta ST is WAY more fun and still reasonably practical. I never understood why people (usually old people) will say "x car is more car for the money" because I don't want more car, I want the right amount of car. The Focus ST feels a lot less willing to be hustled around a winding road than the Fiesta ST even though on paper they can pull the same G on the skidpad. I think it's mostly due to the longer wheelbase of the Focus.
@bongodave13
@bongodave13 Жыл бұрын
The FiST is smaller. It corners better because it has a shorter wheelbase and weighs 500 lbs. less. The suspension is tuned to make it break the rear loose when you want it. The FoST is better for people who need a bigger car, but it can't match the FiST on a twisty road. Physics.

I get that he is grading acceleration based on performance cars, but there is more to acceleration than just 0-60 times. I love the videos but the acceleration ratings, while objective, are still misleading.

Have had mine for a year now. Mine has a lot of features added on it but I freaking love it. It is my first sports car and I couldn't be happier with it. This video got me to buy one. Thank you and keep up the great work Doug!

Imagine if Doug started bashing FCA for telling its owners about MOPAR car care products in the Jeep Wrangler Owner's Manual, and then he says "What did MOPAR pay Jeep in order to be mentioned on Page 425 of the owner's manual in small print?"

Lol, they'll be back. Once gas prices inevitably skyrocket they'll be desperately scrambling in their parts bin for compact cars and sedans. Very dumb move by Ford to single-handedly give the sedan market to the Japanese. Hell, the Fusion sold 200,000 units last year I heard. Anyway, I can't _wait_ until this SUV/crossover trend dies.

Super fast doesn't necessarily make a car fun to drive. Watch the track reviews of the Fiesta ST, mute the volume and just look at the expressions on the faces of the people driving it. It's fun to drive and it's based on Fords entry level car so even people who don't have lots of money can still have a fun car. That's what makes it such a cool car.

PeRX you can't think of it in American terms. The Fiesta was never intended for the American market. In Europe there is the Ka and the Fiesta is meant to fit between that and the Focus. And the Fiesta ST is quite a bit more expensive than a Focus, so it probably makes more sense to buy a Focus. The existance of the Ka pushes Fiesta prices into Focus territory..

The Fiesta ST is just amazing i drove the Focus ST and it was fast but its not as fun to drive. Idk if its because of the weight and size or what but something about the Fiesta ST just makes driving anywhere seem like a track. Happy with my little pocket rocket. Bought mine for 18k brand new tuxedo black with black rims and red brake calipers and I still feel like i made the right decision every time I get behind the wheel. Get a cobb access port and you wont regret it.

The gap in the dash is for the lighting, there is a button on the dash to change the color. Its the one to the bottom right of the climate control. The heated seat switch is located next to it for the Recaro package. The sun-moon button. Less time reading the owners manual, more time driving and you will see what the Fiesta is about. Back roads are awesome in a Fiesta.
