Yup. The stealth aircraft are best (for ground) during the initial parts of a war. Many people seem to forget that there are many ways to make 4th gen aircraft survivable. Stealth is one of the more recent ones. There is EW, standoff, anti-radiation missiles, passive countermeasures (chaff/flare), and active countermeasures (LAIRCM)... and there are point defense lasers in testing.

A couple years ago, Portland ANG scrambled a pair of F15s for an emergency up in Seattle .. and they got there in 7 minutes. There are a bunch of Top Gun graduates in the local air guard.

why? The F-15 has two important roles that it fulfills really well. Homeland defense, AKA intercepting soviet bombers running around Alaskan air space and civilian planes violating air space restrictions. This is a mission that basically doesn't ever involve going into armed combat but you still need to show the flag. Having a much cheaper to maintain jet with three times as many hours per airframe is a great for this low intensity role. It's "good enough" without the intense maintenance costs involved in maintaining the 3D thrust vectoring engines and stealth coating of the F-35. You also have the missile boat role. The amount of munitions the F-15 can carry is massive and so you can send F-22 and F-35 out ahead into contested space, then when they aquire targets instead of firing on them and using up limited munitions and exposing themselves they can relay targeting data back to the F-15 that can then use its large Missiles to engage enemy radar sites or AWACS and possibly even enemy fighters if they aren't in immediate danger. That's a great role for it that really covers down on the inherent limitations of the stealth fighters with their limited internal weapons bays. Lastly these jets are going to be around for decades and the F-35 a jet that only really needs to exist for about a week in many conflicts the US might take part in. In a conflict with say Iran or Lebanon or Syria or even Russia, the US could expect to gain complete air superiority over the area inside a week, having taken out every SAM launcher and shot down every enemy aircraft that was willing to launch against them. At that point, the boys on the ground need raw firepower more than anything. You are much more at risk of running out of ammo with a job still to do than being shot down.

If you do not pray to God and instead always draw attention to yourself in the presence of others, can it fulfill the will of God? If your actions are always outward, it means that you are the most arrogant of people. What kind of person is he to be seen--he is only a person who does good but is blind to the truth. you know the F-35 can look right back at you and from a longer distance and with the relative levels of observability I am pretty confident the F-35 will see the F-15 well before the F-15 even knows the F-35 is near. The F-117 was for all purposes 'blind' in any meaningful way

@@misspuddles63 I’m talking about f-15s armed with IRST pods going against enemy “5th gen aircraft” not f35’s. They have been using the 117’s to test and refine stealth detection for 4th gen aircraft.

By all reports the Russian and Chinese aircraft that may be faced are perhaps not of the same calibre of low observability, but I still guarantee that will be smaller than the tennis court of the F-15 and those aircraft also can stare back

not really, a matter of convenience really. The failure of the F-22 to be produced in number (750 was the original requirement) and the fact F-35 is at least 6 years behind where it was expected to be. It is also a lot easier to change like for like rather than an entire new platform. It is hard to argue that the ANG needs to have full up F-35s, but also the F-35 was supposed to be the F-16 replacement anyway. Personally they would have been better getting sparkly new F-16s, but they are made by the wrong company
