The Bee Gees have written more top 10 songs than anyone in history.

Deborah Robertson - Barry was a great songwriter but so was Robin and he always got the shaft. This song was cowritten by Robin and Barry as were 90% of their songs and Robin wrote alone or with Maurice like on his solo albums. Look at the credits on their songs including songs like Islands in the Stream - credited to R and B Gibb! Barry wrote in the early 60's because the twins were still kids but Robin and Maurice soon wrote great songs too. Robin primarily wrote Massachusetts, I started a joke, My world, I can't see nobody, Saved by the bell, Close another door, etc. and cowrote their 60's hits with Barry. Maurice did the orchestrating and perfected the third harmony. On most songs all three were credited because all contributed to the finished product. It's a shame to me that Barry gets all the credit when the other two are dead. The deserve equal recognition as two thirds of the Bee Gees.

Islands in the Stream was originally written in an R&B style, intended for someone else, but not recorded (Maurice recalled it being for Marvin Gaye, Barry recalled it for Dianna Ross). When Barry was co-producing Kenny’s album, they reworked it for Kenny. After 3 days of singing it, Kenny decided he didn’t like it. Barry said it needed Dolly Parton, who neither of them knew well & didn’t even know if she was in the state (CA). Kenny’s manager was in the room, said he’d seen her earlier that day & had her #. She was called & to everyone’s surprise, came right over (Kenny said within an hour). Kenny said, “she came marching into the room, & once she came in & started singing, the song was never the same. It took on a personality of its own.” It hit #1 on 3 charts (Hot 100, Country & Contemporary), was Certified Platinum & in 2005 topped CMT's poll of best country duets of all time, plus began their lifelong friendship. Not bad for 1 song.

Yes indeed they did and to their credit they could produce a three part harmony, whereas Kenny and Dolly , only two part which worked wonderfully in its own right

Sheila Morgan - Actually the song was co written by Robin and Barry and sung by Robin on the Best of the Bee Gees album.

@@susieq9801 Actually according to Kenny Rogers Barry wrote it and gave to Kenny. Kenny said to Barry it would make a good duet for him and Dolly. Now you tell Kenny he is wrong. I don't believe he is. Bee Gees wrote many songs for different country singers.

@@sheilamorgan3845 - Look up the credits. Barry presented the song to Kenny, fine. He was more, je ne sais quoi, savvy business wise. The one who brought a song to the group was often the one who sang it. On the Best of the Bee Gees, The Record, Robin sang it. Robin was often pushed aside. Several of the stars that worked with the Bee Gees wanted Robin's collaboration but Barry took over. Maybe it was the big brother syndrome but still unfair. That also happened to Robin in the late 60's when Stigwood and the record execs started to give all the "A" sides to Barry and the "B" sides to Robin, the guy who sang lead on and primarily wrote their earliest international hits, Massachusetts, I started a joke, I can't see nobody, etc. When Robin left the group, the same people actually paid DJ's NOT to play Robin's solo songs to force him to come back. Regardless, he had the first solo hit, "Saved by the Bell. I'm not saying one is more or less important than another but they deserve recognition for what they did. The Bee Gees were THREE, not one. Since two have died, they are being largely cast aside. We aren't hearing their story. I might add, although this song was originally sung by ROBIN, after it became a hit, Barry started singing the lead in concert. Poor Rob got the shaft again.
