On the front, it says: 616 PLUS, Upragded color, Upgraded material, Upgraded writing, Ease of use.

I envy you this pen. I wrote 616 in my primary school for 6 years. I had 2. Standard color back then was: black, dark purple and dark green. I had green and black. It was much better than standard chinese pens, but also about 10 times more expensive. This color is simply insane comparing to what was available back then. I must have it for the sake of my mental health ;)

Thanks for the review Chris . I think one of the weaknesses in the old 616 was aerometric sack so it's nice to see a better filling system, not that aerometric filling system are bad, they just were not very good in the 616 or at least the ones i tried.

Thanks for introducing this improved 616 to the English-speaking world! I got the exact same model and for me it fixed all the problems inherent with the original squeeze-filler 616. It's not an amazing pen by far, but as a student workhorse pen it really does the job.

The body is the same as my Kaco Retro which I purchased from Bobby. The nib is suppose to be a extra fine but writes more like a medium/fine. Thank You for all the informative reviews.

This looks like the one I have which was the called Jumbo or Doctor mine has a squeeze converter though. I also have a 316 which is tiny with just a fitted bladder filler without the metal. I like the bright colour of the one you have there. My Jumbo is black

The converter was very unexpected. As far as I know, the 616s are using the squeeze sack. That must be one of the "upgrades" in the new version.

Thank you for the excellent review. The "real" Hero 616 is my favorite pen among many pens I have. Yours sure looks like a real one but there are many reviews on YT of the fake 616's. The "H E R O" on the clip in between the feathers is a good indication of a real Hero 616. I got mines from the Hero official store so I know mines are real (the clips also have the H E R O letters). If yours is like many of mines, you can take the cap liner out (a flat screw driver). That inner cap liner has a small design defect (a thin slot on the side) so it leaks air. I used a drop of candle wax to seal that slot and the 616's do not dry out even after weeks of inactivity. They are almost as reliable as some of my Platinum 3776 Century's.

Chris, have you tried out the Jinhao 51A? If so, how do you feel it compares to the 616 Plus in build quality?

Thanks for reviewing this Chris - I ordered a couple recently when I saw they came with a cartridge converter! Definitely an improvement (for me), writes nicely - and much easier to clean out between fills. I just wish it came in some more conservative colours...

Forgot to say: 616 PLUS seems to indicate it's a new version / upgrade - and that's my impression from using mine...

Tengo varios en los colores tradicionales, negro, vino tinto y verde, en tapas cromadas y doradas. Pero me gustaron los colores azul, rosado y verde neon. Well in reality 616 Plus is a totally different pen though same physical size and profile as the 616 ... in sort they appear the same but they are not the same pen
