Greetings and welcome to the bottom of the description. I'm Alax, more legally known as Alex Carducci. I make design analysis videos on fictional stuff I really like. Most of this time this centralizes on video games I love like Super Smash Bros., Super Mario, Persona, or Sonic the Hedgehog. I studied design and communications, so I find it fascinating how technology and culture shapes the media in our lives and how we perceive it. My channel aims to look into the history and development of these topics in depth so we can all find the truth as to why things are made the way they are. Also, there's a talking cat.

What characters do you want to see next? I'm genuinely curious so if you see comments begging for a character you want, like those top comments to push them up. I'll also be checking the old fashion way but since we have a couple of angles we could go with the next few (Terry and Byleth aren't too tough all things considered, Sakurai also did it for me f in chat) I'd like to hear who's the most requested. Fun fact: The DQ1&2 heroes are consistently shown to not know zap spells. This is due to zap not existing in DQ1, and the DQ2 hero being the only hero who has zero access to magic. Because of this, they essentially contribute nothing to Gigaslash. On an unrelated note, the hero class in DQ is generally an all around class whose only flaw is that they're somewhat slow. This is carried into smash, as Hero can do *a lot* of different things but has pretty slow frame data and movement. Edit: DQ5 Hero also never learned the Zap spells, meaning only 4 of the seven Heroes that show up in gigaslash actually contributed something. Edit 2: DQ9 Hero also never learns zap, but does learn Gigaslash.

The DQ5 hero is in a similar camp as he himself isn’t actually the legendary hero, his son is. That’s why he uses a staff instead of a sword

Expio 20XX just checked on multiple online sources and by loading up my save file for DQ5. The hero cannot use zap spells or equip the zenithian sword

@@deepfried2654 Around a third or more of the entire roster of Smash Ultimate would be either gone or heavily changed without Dragon Quest. Even going so far as to the original cast of Smash being highly different. Even Link wouldn't be unaffected. Heck, most series of games you have come to love probably wouldn't even exist in the same form if at all. Dragon Quest is just that ridiculously influential. And one last thing. Joker is very unlikely to exist if Dragon Quest didn't.

Btw the Japanese voice actors for Eleven and Eight also voiced ALBW Link and Hyrule Warriors Link respectively, it's a whole Hero-ception if you will

I just wanna point out how when Hero swings his sword, he actually looks like he is swinging a powerful blade of steel and puts force behind it. While the Fire Emblem character's like Lucina swing their sword as if it's a plastic toy

I’ve never played a fire emblem game before but I feel most of the FE cast are more swordsmans than they are adventurers or “heros”. I feel like they put more technique and precision in the swing of their swords than the force or strength behind it.

Despite Smash already having several RPG characters since the first game, Hero is the first one to actually play like a RPG and that's why i love his addition to the game.

I feel like most RPG character have some sort of RPG mechanic, such as Marth's counter, Robin's weapon durability and Cloud's Limit Charge, but then there's Hero, who's just all of it rolled into one... er, four

Hard to believe that people were mad over a brand new series added to Smash but some defend Byleth when FE isn’t new to Smash and it took us a while to get a character with different Weapons.

Back in June, when the reveal trailer for Hero dropped I went ahead and bought Dragon Quest 8 to understand the character better in smash. Right now, in February, I'm at the final boss.

8 is pretty spectacular, it's already one of my favorite RPG's, havent beaten it yet though, im at the part of the game where Yangus has you find a friend who has a boat so you can travel to the next big area.

You forgot Hero's alts! If anyone's interested: Eleven's alt is based on Angelo, a party member from DQVIII Erdrick's alt is based on Madason, the DQV protagonist Solo's alt is based on the DQI protagonist and has metal slime earrings And Eight's alt is based on Terry, a party member from DQVI who became a protagonist in the Dragon Quest Monsters spin-off series (basically DQ Pokémon)

Not gonna lie, went in expecting a really poorly researched and meme-y ride (as is usual for anything Hero related nowadays) but what I got was a super well researched and respectful analysis of a franchise I've been a fan of for decades. Your Story was INCREDIBLE, best video game film I have ever seen. I love Dragon Quest, but i've truthfully only played 1, 8 and some of the spin-offs. I plan on going through 11 very soon, and getting even deeper into the series.

I've only played 4, 5 and 6. The movie is beautiful. I thought it was going to be weird having them not in the original DQ style, but it worked. Highly recommend to DQ fans. . Mild spoiler. . . . . Don't know what to think of the "V" at the end, but still loved the movie.

I was introduced to Dragon Quest through my brother who owned Dragonquest 8 on his ps2 and iPad and I was mesmerized by it. I personally never got heavily involved with the series, but when Hero was announced and I saw the DQ 8 I lost my shit like that scene in Elf when Buddy gets excited for Santa saying “I know him!” That’s what it was for me.

A note about Heal: it's probably included because the Japanese spell name, Hoimi, has become a generic term for magical healing, so it's too iconic not to include

Hero was the most fun I've had with a character since I first tried out King K. Rool in the beginning days of Ultimate. That was what convinced me to get DQ11, which I ended up enjoying despite not even liking RPGs. Great video as usual, Alax. Very informative.

Kid Icarus Uprising is still my most favourite 3DS game! Play it! The NES one is my most fav NES game, too. The Gameboy one is the only one not so good.

@cedrickterrick Finally, someone appreciates the NES original. For too long it has been labeled as the most archaic and clunky title in Nintendo’s personally developed 8-Bit catalog. People who say as such probably have not played Gumshoe or Gyromite.

The funny thing about Hero's Final Smash is that Two (the guy in blue wearing goggles) is there despite being the only one that does not know any magic or even have any MP to begin with. He contributes nothing to the Final Smash but he's trying his best.

True, he did show Banjo-tooie when talking about what even is an RPG tho which makes sense cause that's more adventure game then platformer. Come to think of it, between Tooie and StarFox Adventure, it feels like Rare kept trying to make an RPG even though Dream was cancelled.

Actually that was incorrect. Sakurai and Square chose the Luminary and Erdrick, then they decided to pick Eight because of Western popularity, and then Solo was chosen instead of the protagonist from 5.

Fun fact: Solid Snake hasn't used the RPG-7 (side smash) or mortar (up smash) in the games. Naked Snake/Big Boss, of course, used the RPG-7. But, there wasn't a usable mortar weapon in the Metal Gear series until MGS5 (M2A-304 mortar). The only other weapons Snake himself hadn't used are the Cypher (which act as enemies) and the Covering Fire (an MGS5 feature). He did wield a grenade launcher in the first Metal Gear, but the model used in Brawl's Final Smash is not his M79, but rather the RGB6, which was used by Raiden in MGS2.

Alax, I'm not gonna lie, you'd probably like Fire Emblem Awakening, since you enjoyed the dating mechanism of Persona so much. You and your party marry others and then have babies that grow up and fight for you as well! There's "RPG" elements sure but the cool story and the character interactions make it that much more worthwhile.

@@SS2GohanisBomb1 As far as I've heard, Fates's characters… are actually way more bland than Awakening's. Awakening's were kinda stereotyped afaik, but again from what I've heard Fates's are even worse in that department, so Awakening's probably the better recommendation if you're not strict on SRPG gameplay.

I always thought that the reason why Hero had bad frame data and not any real nice combo potential was because of how turn-based RPGs were: you attack, and then your enemy attacks. Realizing it was just because Hero classes in the games biggest weaknesses are slow movement and strategy was an eye-opener.

Fun fact: The up taunt isnt a reference to pep powers but mustering strength. Something enemies do before launching an attack on you. This video is still fantastic Alax! Keep it up.

I would personally love to see a Snake Know Your Moves. I would love to see the character design and why someone who's from a game all about stealth has a nakita and grenades, which are very loud weapons.

snake is an infiltrator with an expertise in on-site procurement... and he tends to infiltrate military bases. the way that the MGS games go, you usually tend to have at least one heavy weapon on you at all times, unless you're doing a challenge thing of "no killing". unfortunately for that, his non-lethals tend to be too... gun-y for smash, so he's stuck with the his explosives... which actually tend to be what you use in the final bosses of MGS, as you tend to fight the titular Metal Gears for those.

I think the next KYM should be on Mario, Luigi, and Dr. Mario. I'm actually surprised that you haven't already done their KYM, but I think their KYM would be interesting, especially since Luigi, in Smash, is basically Mario but with variations as well as original moves that make him different from Mario but similar to Mario. Plus, Dr. Mario is basically an echo fighter of Mario but before echo fighters were a thing, and that's very interesting, especially since he still isn't considered an echo fighter, even in Smash Ultimate. (I know because Dr. Mario doesn't overlap when you set echo fighters to "stacked" in the settings.)

A note on Dr. Mario: I kinda like that they changed the animation of Super Sheet, where he's flipping the sheet up from the ground, as if he was changing the sheet on a hospital bed. Also gives more credence to its taller but narrower hitbox.

Sadly Samus and by extension Dark Samus still have a bunch of generic moves, i can only think of her specials, grabs and dash attack taken from Metroid games, unless they redesign her there's not a lot to see.

Quadraxis The Metroid representation in Samus’s moveset sucks. Hell, the original 12 have weird representations. They need to be redesigned. Give Mario more power ups, give Luigi more poltergeist moves, give DK a moveset, and make Samus fast like she’s suppose to. I dunno what you can do with the other guys, but there can still be improvements.

@Super It gets better when you get to Heliodor Castle. But overall once you get more party members then the game gets more fun because the Hero doesn’t have much of a personality so It’s good that the first party member is so good.

That's because both DQ and Zelda are basically the same concept but in different genres. They both follow the story of the Yuusha which is basically a story of someone (most specifically someone in their teens) who is tasked with saving the world from some kinda dark lord. Which explains why Hero and Link are so similar, they effectively the same archetype.

Oh yeah, got a few tips about Shulk. Should make things a little easier. - Of the five Monado Arts in his neutral special, Jump and Smash are of course Smash-original. - Monado Speed, Monado Shield, and Monado Buster are actual Monado Arts. However, Monado Shield specifically only blocks enemy Talent Arts. The defense-boosting part is probably more like the optional Monado Armor. And Monado Buster is an attack, not a buff - though its effect and color may still be linked with Monado Enchant, which boosts the party's damage output (and lets any weapon harm Mechon). - You may notice that the Monado's blade changes color when using Back Slash and Air Slash. This doesn't actually happen in-game, but the colors do reference those Arts' icon colors. Back Slash is a Physical Art, depicted with a red icon, and Air Slash is a Break Art (inflicts Break status), which has a pink icon.

I would personally recommend Ryu and Ken Though their moves are mostly straightforward, they aren't 1-1 with their series and have some of the original SF moves folded into their smash moves. Also there are some subtle references like their taunts and costumes that might be nice for Know your Moves
