Station 2 is a 14,000 sq ft facility, that was built with a $3.4 million investment and Completed in 2018. It sits on 6 acres some of which will still need development.
🚨 Station Features:
3-bay station housing active engine company, reserve ladder, reserve engine, ALS ambulance, and forestry Type-6 apparatus. It is designed with 10 individual sleeping quarters and 5 shared baths/toilets. A dedicated apparatus maintenance and service bay along with a versatile training room/community meeting space for 80. No to mention the dayroom, kitchen, 2 offices, secured medical storage, IT room, and more

"Welcome to Clemson University Fire & EMS. Our mission is to protect life, property, and the environment through rapid emergency response, code enforcement, fire prevention, and public education. With 46 dedicated personnel, we tackle challenges on and off campus, providing fire suppression coverage for the city and medical assistance through mutual aid agreements. The ability of organizations, be it businesses or government, to do training offsite at minimal or no extra expense is priceless. It stops people from going back to their desk, being bothered by coworkers or bosses, etc. You can turn off work and focus on training.

Interesting to see that the University FD contracts with the city to provide fire protection but that the city built the second station. The different ways these partnerships are structured is worth explaining when it has a lot to do with the department structure.

Clemson University has a very unique relationship with the city & county especially with how quickly the campus has expanded and grown over the last decade. There is a lot of mutual assistance provided for both fire/rescue and police calls throughout the area

Great Video. University of the South AKA Sewanee in Tennessee used to provided fire protection for the college and they supported the town and surrounding area. If the pagers activated you could see students running from all areas of campus to the fire house. That was in the late 70's and early 80's. Not sure or the current arrangement.

I was amazed that Station 1 was as small and cramped. I hope the University will upgrade it to a modern Station.

The are working on it now as the University is expanding the facilities for all of the Public Services

Several years ago I was down in Columbia South Carolina it was an extremely hot week and it was a drought the only place I could find to swim was at Clemson the students were excellent I took my kids out to The rolling area that the students used and welcomed me with open arms I am very fond memories by the way I am a Michigan firefighter

Who runs as the primary technical rescue or “heavy rescue” as some people may say for clemson or in the area?

It's a county-run Special Operations division comprised of a mix of full-time and volunteers. Many members are also full-time with fire departments, law enforcement, etc in the county. There is also a volunteer rescue squad that assists.

University of South Carolina is covered by the Columbia Richland Fire Dept, which provides fire protection for city, university and county

If I remember correctly the University has its own dispatch center that answers for both Fire & Police, the Pickens County Emergency Service Center (county dispatch) can also links in to assist as well

Texas A&M University has a full transport EMS system on campus. College Station FD covers the campus fore Fire responses.

I’ve heard of plenty of universities with their own Fire Departments. What I haven’t heard of is a University Fire Department contracting with a city to provide Fire/EMS for them. Usually it’s a city/county contracting with the university to provide fire/ems

But it is a school thought in most place in the United States it was illegal to carry on school grounds I’m not surprised you can’t carry on campus even though SC is more of a gun friendly state just surprised they have to put a no gun sign

How So? The fire station 1 worked really well until very recently when the campus has drastically expanded and grown in the last 10 - 15 years. They quickly outgrew its capacity even with mutual aid from surrounding areas. They are already in the works to build a 3rd station, it just takes time for planning, budgets, & approvals
