Of course you should do that. Don't treat yourself as a walking infection. Your child needs to be loved and unless you have a cold sores, they you should definitely kiss your child as well.

So when it is viral shedding is it only in her vaginal fluids or can it be on the skin as well? I was told asymptomatic shedding is only in secretion, sperm, etc

Herpes doesn't live in bodily fluids. It is a skin to skin contact.

Wait so if shedding is when a sore pops up and the virus “sheds”, how can you shed without showing symptoms, when sores are a symptom?

Herpes can appear in many different forms. Even a paper-cut like outbreak, or bug bite, etc. So, there doesn't need to be a sore for the virus to be active. The virus can pop on to the surface of the skin, without any symptoms
