Kiefer Sutherland’s Pregnancy
Richard attempts improvisational comedy, but discovers that for this to work your observations must match other people’s experience. He is joined by a man who just won’t shut up about his obsession with German board games, Graham Linehan.
They discuss Graham’s first sitcom, why it is flawed and what he learned from it, the impact of the Brexit vote (which was really quite recent when we recorded this), the only funny joke in Zoolander 2, the farce of another American attempt to make the IT Crowd and whether it was a good thing that Richard once wrote nine sitcom episodes in ten weeks. How rewarding is it to work on the least respected on all art forms anyway?
See a great comic mind in action as Graham is asked what he’d like to jump into a pool of and find out what was the better film to work on Paddington or Agent Cody Banks 2.

Linehan's funniest moment for me, was in the IT Crowd. He played a mariachi in a chain restaurant. The faces he pulled when singing the happy song, was genuinely pant wettingly funny.

Terrific interview, Graham is far too harsh about Paris though - I really enjoyed when it was first broadcast, and watching it again last year (the entire series was uploaded onto YT at the time, I dunno whether it's still on here?) it was still pretty funny. It's far from perfect but, as a dry-run for Father Ted, it's a must-see. Has it ever been released on DVD, etc - I don't think so? And now... I want to read some of Graham's music journalism. Has it ever been collected anywhere?

If you need to make so many changes to a British show that you produce it as if it was an all-American show, before it's worth trying to have it broadcast in the US, then I don't see the point (other than purely to make money). For the sake of the content and the creation of works, you might as well leave the Americans to make their shows, and make more British shows in Britain.

Can't believe I'm so sad to comment on Brexit. Remainer predicted economic collapse, hasn't happened, cameron did imply leaving could lead to European war. Why can't people afford to live in London anymore? Would it have anything to do with 100s of thousands of EU nationals moving there every year since the late 90's/early 2000's?

Brexit hasn't happened yet. And house prices is more to do with rich vs. poor, than countries vs. countries. It needs to be far more expensive to own multiple homes, to avoid the rich controlling the market. Though more people using condoms wouldn't hurt.
