Hersheypark is the self-proclaimed sweetest place on Earth and it's hard to disagree. This Pennsylvania amusement park has a stacked ride lineup with 14 roller coasters (including 2 hyper coasters) and the full-fledged Boardwalk water park. Along with the thrills, this park manages to be beautiful and charming. Plus, you also have Hershey's Chocolate World next door for free. Find out why this may be the best park in the northeast!

Two updates since I made this video. 1) The park opened Wildcat's Revenge in 2023. This RMC hybrid is now one of the top 2 rides in the park. It's a fast paced mix of ejector airtime and hangtime filled inversions. If you want to beat the crowds, head to this ride during thr first 1-2 hours of operation. 2) If you visit on a day where Hersheypark opens a few hours after Chocolate World or Chocolatier, you can get a free parking space up front. They don't usually have the toll booths staffed until 1-1.5 hrs before the park opens. While waiting for the park to open, you can enjoy a great meal at Chocolatier or try the free dark ride at Chocolate World.

HersheyPark is a really great park with some great atmosphere also with a good coaster collection. The park is so photogenic and their coasters are so photogenic you can’t get enough of it. The way they organized thing is really something to remember, their entrance is such a great entrance.

This was a great park even back in the 70s, when I went there a lot as a little kid. At the time, it had just expanded into a full-fledged theme park, and it was along the way when we drove from the DC area to visit family in the Poconos. It was not the massive coaster explosion it is today, but it had a lot of family-friendly rides I liked and such a welcoming, nice atmosphere. Whenever I get back there I am going to miss the old entrance. I was always impressed by the amount of free stuff they had outside the actual gate--not just Chocolate World, but also the front area before the gate used to be a whole themed land called Tudor Square (yes, it was just shops, but it felt like you were already in the park). I realize it didn't have the capacity they needed for modern crowds, but it had a real charm to it, whereas Chocolatetown just looks sort of like a generic shopping plaza.

I remember going back in the 90s and early 00s and I remember the entrance area being extremely crowded even then, so i'm glad they opened it up there, but you're right it is missing some of that tudor square charm. still, having to choose between the old entrance and the new entrance with candymonium, i'd take candymonium still lol.

Really appreciate the kind review of my home park (even though I live closer to SF America now, Hershey will always be my home park). I agree with everything you had to say. Two things I'll add. Troegs is a great place to stop for food outside the park and it's very close by. Great spot for people into beer. Also, the kettle corn is amazing (if they still have it, pretty sure they do). And just as an aside, I don't know the financials of this place, but their rate of expansion is crazy and it seems like they do an incredible business. Growing up knowing my home park was going to build a crazy new thrill coaster every two-three years really spoiled me. And they still manage to do it! Can't wait to see what's next.

Great review, and great tips! I’ve been going there since forever ago. I do miss some of the old rides, like the Flying Falcon that got replaced by the Triple Tower, mainly just because the S&S pneumatics are so noisy it kind of ruins the atmosphere of that section of the park. However Skyrush is fantastic, Fahrenheit is one of my favorite loopers, and Great Bear is also awesome. Also agree about the hotels. I haven’t stayed at the Lodge, but we got an ok deal and spent the night at the Hershey Hotel a few years ago. While the grounds and staff were nice, the actual rooms were really disappointing. They put us in the main building, and the room was small and really musty smelling. We tried a second room nearby but same issue with the strong musty smell. Finally they moved us to another room in the west wing and the room was good, but it felt on par with a normal Hilton or Garden Inn despite costing so much more. Seemed like maybe that main building was overdue for a renovation or something.

Canobie. So much to unpack about your great review. Pennsylvania IS the birth place for the American coaster. 1872 Maunk Chunk. There is also Dorney Park, Dutch Wonderland & KennyWood + what you mentioned. It's easily a 2 day visit + the tour around the city with "Kisses street lamps" I had the Yankee Pot Roast @ Chocolate tour that gave samples. Intamin & B&M (Love) designing for this challenging "stacked" park. I love sweets esp. Hershey. 3 vanishing attractions they have. Monorail, gyro tower & steam train. It's a "delicious" park to be enjoyed. Great grand circle tour! Errr! What was heard through those thin walls?

I really enjoy this park! Great review. Candymonium is a really great floating airtime coaster, and Great Bear gives some unusual airtime for an invert. Storm Runner is surprisingly disorienting and a blast to ride. This is my home park, and what a park to have as a home park. I am exceptionally thankful that I live only 10 miles away. There's so much to love about this place. The ride lineup is very strong, with coasters for each member of the family. I do also appreciate rides for all ages spread out throughout the park. Skyrush was my number 1 here and overall for 9 years. Wildcat's Revenge is an over the top RMC and my number 2 overall. Great Bear is an underated B&M invert for me. I also appreciate plenty of water stations throughout the park, all you do is walk up and get water. I do hope that Canyon River Rapids is brought back in some way.

I was able to marathon Candymonium during early entry in 2020 & June 2021, but July 2021 early entry was insane. Candymonium was an hour wait within 15 minutes of early entry, and it was on weekdays. Regarding Wildcat, you certainly have more experience with it than I do, so I have to assume I've caught it on good days on all my visits. It's only been a little rough for me, even in the back row, so I almost always rode it back there, and the airtime is pretty good. Raven (2020) & Legend (2021) have been far rougher for me. I totally loved my time at this park. I love the variety of rides and other attractions, plus the great atmosphere. It's an all-time top 3 park for me. I currently am thinking # 2, but it could be my favorite if I were able to fully partake in what they offer all year.

Duck Donuts is SO GOOD!! They started in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and I've been going there on family vacation my entire life (possibly where I got my first credit, too, on a little kiddie coaster called Tornado), and I've loved to see that they're branching out nationwide slowly but surely; I've seen them in Arizona, Texas, Illinois, and Minnesota, and I'm sure they're up and down the rest of the east and west coasts too. I make sure to get some every year, usually a dozen with/for the fam - the cinnamon sugar is my favorite but you really can't go wrong, and if you get the chance to eat them within a few minutes of being made there really isn't much better out there.

The park may not have much room left to expand both they don't need to worry about that as this park is already good enough to travel the country for. It's funny marathoning Candymonium with early entry and then seeing the zombie horde rush it when the gates open. Becomes a matter of seconds as to whether you'll get that last re-ride before the back 7 row queues go from empty to full. If Intamin built a coaster that was Storm Runner as the first half, and Maverick's second half as the second half, that would be the best coaster in the world. Re: ride strategy, I encountered the following on Thursday/Friday June 9th and 10th of 2022: 1) Thursday - Fahrenheit opened late (Friday too). Rode Laff Trakk first. Storm Runner got a line quickly. That with slow ops resulted in over a 30 minute wait for Storm Runner even with Fast Track. 2) Friday - Rode Storm Runner first after official park open. 4 re-rides (no leaving the ride), two in front row, two in back, then a line showed up. Got two rides on Jolly Rancher Remix, then the park got slammed on every ride. 3) Skyrush had over an hour wait most of the day on both days. The line for Candymonium still had a 90-minute posted wait time in the afternoon. 4) The Fast Track line merge points in this park are awful on the major rides compared to any other park I can think of, except for Fahrenheit, which was a 1 to 4 minute wait with Fast Track (over an hour without). With Fast Track, riding Storm Runner first and saving Fahrenheit for later was the better option. Ops: - Unreasonably slow. Most B&M inverts (e.g. Batman clones) are short lines or walk-ons, but Great Bear (an average B&M invert) had a 60-90 minute wait. Candymonium dispatch speed is molasses compared to similar B&M Hypers. - Most of Hershey's rides were staffed with teenagers. It was comical how little the Hershey employees seemed to care about their jobs or know about the park. We eventually made a game out of it. In front of Skyrush, there are a number of employees working at different functions. We asked 5 of them, "Excuse me, do you know where Skyrush is? We can't find it." None of them knew, even though the coaster was towering right behind them. - The park has an illogical locker policy, e.g. Candymonimum has cubbies, but sometimes (not others), there is a disgruntled teenager working the line queue entrance who demands that some people, but not others, store their items in a locker instead of the ride cubbies. Similar scenario on other rides. Can't really blame the teenagers for this. The ops are ultimately a failure of management, and a glaring weakness of Hershey relative to its nearby competitors. Hershey probably needs to make a personnel change here, poaching a competent ride operations manager from Six Flags Great Adventure. Zoo America: It was sad seeing caged deer, an alligator with a tiny space to swim, and other neglected animals. If Hershey discontinued this lackluster area, they could potentially expand their coaster lineup into that space, which they would need to do if they wanted to compete with nearby parks for number of quality coasters per hour that a guest can experience (e.g. I got less than half the rides per day here as compared to Six Flags Great Adventure). Multiple times I heard groups of guests complaining that there was nothing to do in the park that didn't have an hour wait or more. Food: Chocalatier was relatively good. Patio seating much more pleasant than indoor (tried both). Get the salad dressing on the side if you get a salad, otherwise they drown it. Soft pretzels were great, ice cream was pretty good too, Tropical Smoothie Cafe (outside the park) has good smoothies, and Duck Donuts rules!

Hersheypark’s old entrance was nearly identical to Busch Gardens Williamsburg‘s entrance but now it looks like Carowinds entrance. And also the ride accessibility program at Hersheypark is amazing because it is a free fast track but paper version rather than electronic wristband. You go to guest services they take your picture and then you go through fast track and they do not even give you a return time to come back regardless of the posted wait time so if you ride Candymonium and it has a 3 1/2 hour wait they will actually let you on and the only time you have to wait for the rides is in the fast track line if it even has a line but a fast track is a walk on then you get right on so if you know how fast track works it’s exactly the same thing which is actually amazing because fast track is exactly the same thing and it cost $200 wow you could get the exact same thing if you have a disability such as autism for free so if you have a disability definitely get the disability pass at Hersheypark because it would save a lot of time and that’s why I don’t really care about crowds at Hersheypark that much is because of that system.

But I have to stick with it unless I I enter the ride through the exit, and then I would have to get a return time based on the length of the line and I’m not really a big fan of that especially for a park that gets as crowded as Hersheypark so I would just stick with the fast track option. Most rides don’t seem that bad but the one for Laff Trak only skips half the queue and it still takes a good 30 minutes.

Hershey is my fav park that's close to me (philly is in a good spot for coasters tbh). ive done season passes for great adventure and hershey and the overall vibe of hershey makes it more worth it to me even if they dont have el toro. dorney is also a cute little park and has an excellent haunt for what it's worth. im interested to see what hershey does since they advertised something a bit scarier this season

I've only been to HP a handful of times (and none for over a decade); it's very tempting to make a trek this year, but I can't justify season passes for a family of four and I suspect a single day's worth will run me back a good chunk of change. Still, it's probably worth it.

I need to get to this park someday. I've been to Great Adventure and Dorney, but never Hershey. How would you say the coaster lineup alone compares to Great Adventure? While they both have 14 coasters, you can't exactly compare them head-to-head, since both parks have stuff that the other does not. While one could consider Nitro and Candymonium to be equivalent, or Batman and Great Bear, Hersheypark for example has nothing like Superman or Jersey Devil, while Great Adventure has nothing like Comet (El Toro is probably more similar to Skyrush than any of Hersey's wood coasters).

I prefer the one at Hershey. Ive ridden everything at both parks except Jersey Devil and Candy. I like Hersheys more. I prefer El Toro to Skyrush but imo the sfgadv lineup is carried by El Toro. Kingda Ka is decent but Storm Runner is far better. Everything else at sfgadv is mediocre at best

An odd fact about this park is that it is not actually owned by the Hershey company. It is owned by the Hershey Entertainment and Resorts company which is itself owned by the Hershey Trust Company that Milton Hershey founded for his endowment. Milton Hershey had the park built for his factory employees but it wasn't owned by the company itself. It was built as a completely different company. Of course, it heavily partners with the Hershey company for merchandising, theming and even the parking. Technically, the trust fund does own some stock in the Hershey Company but that companies still does not own the park. In a way, it's sort of analogous to the fact that the Mack family owns Europa-Park and Mack Rides but the coaster manufacturer does not actually own the park itself.

And that's why Chocolate World is a separate attraction--Chocolate World IS owned by the Hershey company. When I was a kid, my absolute favorite ride at Hersheypark was the Giant Wheel, a now-long-defunct Waagner-Biro double Ferris wheel that was on what is now Founder's Way, nearer the front of the park. A different company had made the similar double wheel at Astroworld and they thought the Hersheypark ride was a patent infringement. There's a story that they tried sending a cease-and-desist letter to stop construction of the ride, but they accidentally sent it to the Hershey's chocolate company, which explained that they didn't own Hersheypark, and for some reason that was the end of it.

I'd describe Milton Hershey as Walt Disney if he were a chocolatier. For this instance, Walt built Disneyland as one of his many ways to make people happy and that's exactly why Milton built Hersheypark. Well technically it was first built to entertain his employees but then he opened ot to the public shortly afterwards so it's basically the same thing.
