Yea that’s bullshit. I think Billy Idol just admires and respects the Sex Pistols (as do I immensely) so he made it sound like they were complete innovators and totally original. The Ramones played the roundhouse in London on the bicentennial and it changed everything. All the bands, including the pistols and the clash sped up. These groups had not performed yet and doubted their abilities and the Ramones inspired them because they were very limited but still could rock and sound decent. Sid Vicious was not a bass player but he wanted to join the pistols so bad he did speed and stayed up all night with the Ramones album and the next day he could play bass...better.

So there is a bit of mythologizing when people tell these stories. That said, the Ramones debut was available on import by then, and it had an evident impact on the thrashy sound of the early Clash, and they have said as much, as well as the Damned, Buzzcocks, Gen X, et al. The Pistols didn't share that sound, it's much more Chuck Berry/Johnny Thunders. They had some of the same influences as Ramones, like the Dolls and Stooges, and certainly Malcolm brought home some ideas from the Dolls and Richard Hell, but I can't say the Pistols definitely owe the Ramones anything. Further, they deny an influence, while the others affirm it.

Of course that doesn't speak to the music development of the Pistols. I believe Paul Simonon also practiced to Ramones. Frig, in this video, listen to him interrupt Monte when Monte is asked his first question. It is around the 9 minute mark or so. The host says, 'Monte..you witnessed all of their shows'...and Monte starts saying, 'I was at all of them but 2'....and Mickey interrupts, saying, "I am the one that was there since the beginning'.... He felt he had to upstage the fact that Monte was at all of those shows by interjecting the fact that he was around in the beginning. Very, very odd behavior. If I had been on the stage, I would have punched him. haha. The guy is a total idiot. We all know people like that. Completely oblivious to taking turns, waiting until you are asked to speak and normal, everyday common courtesy.

Hate to burst your bubble, but Linda is never a thought in my mind - until she tells lies about my brother in interviews (which people message me about, bringing them to my attention). or she posts photos of her and Joey, and drawings of herself sitting on a throne between Joey and Johnny, caressing Joey's face with one hand and Johnny with the other. People forward these things to me. I ignore them as much as possible. But, hard to sit by while someone continually assaults your family.

I've read a lot about the band ("On the Road" by Monte, the band's road manager might be my favorite, it compiles perspectives from a lot of people in the Ramones orbit and so was very thorough. Marky's book, I think called "Punk Rock Blitzkrieg" was good, he has had an very interesting career in and out of the Ramones, although I always find that there is a little drama concerning him- sometimes it's what he doesn't say, or who he doesn't talk about. Johnny's book "Commando" was also good, but as brief and "no frills" as his guitar style. Dee Dee's book "Lobotomy" was entertaining but probably half fiction. There was one by a journo named Jim Bessiman (sp?) called "Ramones: American Band" that wasn't so informative. Richie has one out that I have to get. I hear CJ is working on one. Anyway, thanks for the reminder of the drama between Linda and Mickey. Besides those personal feelings, they feud over the Ramones estate (if that's the right word), which they are co managers of. Every year they hold independent celebrations, Linda does one for Johnny in Hollywood Forever cemetery in the Summer, Mickey does one for Joey in NYC around May 17. A few years ago, I guess they had patched things up and talked about joining forces, but I guess the old bitterness broke through again. You mentioned how Mickey felt about Linda. Linda and Johnny felt Micky was riding Joey's coattails. For example, Joey's 50th birthday in NYC (Joey had passed, Johnny was alive) featured big bands- Cheap Trick, Blondie, the Damned. Johnny was set to have the surviving Ramones reunite with no singer, an empty spotlight on the microphone and the crowd singing along. I was there, that would have been so powerful. Another Johnny idea was to have friends of the Ramones, like Joe Strummer, Eddie Vedder, Rob Zombie, guest sing. According to Johnny and others, Mickey insisted that HE sing. So all the Ramones stayed home. Mickey did show up, he did like an acoustic set (I think I remember "I remember you" and "danny says") which was very nice, but not nearly as epic. Two sides to every story.

That was my mom's idea, and John refused to do it, saying he thought it was "morbid". There were 6 people, close friends of Joey's. on the "committee" organizing that event. They all know that i never insisted, nor so much as even mentioned me singing with them. John didn't like my mom's idea, and demanded Rob Zombie and Eddie Vedder sing in Joey's place. She said no to that. 3 weeks after her son died she wasn't ready to see anyone in Joey's place, and we all thought it would become more about Zombie and Vedder... and that would overshadow the loss of Joey. John then said that if we wouldn't do what he wanted us to do, then he wouldn't come at all and the Ramone wouldn't play. He needed to have an excuse for the fans for them not playing, so he made that one up and used me as the goat. So kind and sensitive of him to do that, after me just spending 3 months by my brother's bedside as he perished - while John never even gave him a phone call. and i had to deal with threats and attacks from Ramones fans, and, apparently still have to defend myself against this BS story. f " I was there, that would have been so powerful." Yes, it would have been. It's a shame he wouldn't do it. And. FYI, Tommy was there. So was CJ.

And it sucks that it didn't happen (great fucking party even without that, for the record). Stands to reason that Zombie and Vedder would be Johnny's go-to idea for the would-be reunion, considering that he had those singers participate in the final Ramones concert. I'm sure the BS I wrote about the spotlight idea being Johnny's second idea, that I read that, either from Johnny, or maybe it was Marky. I wouldn't make it up (not on purpose)! But at this point I guess it could be the fucking "Mandela Effect"- after all this time I could have fucked up that important detail by just having a false memory. Stuff that I would have read back then isn't necessarily available anymore, so I don't know which explanation for my "reporting" is accurate. I also remember that the excuse for the non-reunion that John gave and I think Mark may have repeated was what I wrote, that John said you were allegedly supposed to be the singer. At least here I didn't report the BS part as "fact"- I didn't state that you had said that, but pointed out that's what their camp claimed, and you confirmed this, and I accept that he made it up as cover (which sucks). And I do remember Tommy that night, CJ I don't happen to remember (wish I do remember that, but the way that I was celebrating does impair my memories of that night!) i was being cut out of the information and decision making process. i learned of this event seeing the Grammy museum website saying "A Panel Celebrating 40 Years of the Ramones , featuring "'Linda Ramone.'" - I tried to get Marky, Richie and CJ on that panel but was rebuffed. ...anything's possible, but do ya think it's just coincidence that having them off of it paved the way for only one "Ramone" to be on it?

Richie, Marky, and CJ should, absolutely, ALL have been there. I agree 1000%. I became aware of this panel in LA - that Linda arranged with the Grammy museum people without my knowledge and had tried to cut me out of - weeks before the event. I tried to get the remaining Ramones on it - just as I brought Richie on stage for the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award acceptances - but that attempt was rebuffed by Linda. Fortunately, I was, at least, able to get Ed Stasium added to it.

It's incredible that she gets to call the shots like that. She wants to be a celebrity so bad but she just isn't. My bf flipped her off at her own event for me. 😅

Linda is fine and has been around since the beginning.

She is alright. She might be a chatterbox and hard to listen to, but she has great stories and keeps the band relevant. Whenever you listen to her interviews, she talks about the band and Johnny. She doesn't harp about herself or the personal things she has going on. It is always about the band and/or Johnny. This is in stark contrast to Joey's brother, Mickey..who uses every opportunity he gets to talk about himself and push his stuff. He could be asked, 'what is your favorite memory of the Ramones', and he will reply with something like, 'did I ever tell you about the time they let me open for them ...and did I mention that I have my own band'? It has become rather annoying. Even the host of this panel interview knew what was coming, as he cut Mickey off and shushed him several times during this interview. The first time being about 1 minute into it... So when you complain about someone, remember that there is always something or someone even mroe annoying. haha

Ridiculous!! I attended with Mickey . We were in the Green Room for 1 and 1/2 hours before this event, eating finger sandwiches and drinking Coffee. There were filmed interviews and lots of chatting going on. These comments are pure fantasy.

I don't think so. To me he just seems like a guy who is super proud of his brother's accomplishments, who might be trying to enjoy this attention that his brother's fame has afforded him.

I didn't "insist" on anything. I'd requested that those people i mentioned be invited to be on the panel, but had been rebuffed. i was a bit disturbed by that and, just before it began, asked if i could, at least, give a shout out to them. what i said was totally off the cuff, unplanned and unscripted. i wanted them mentioned but not by reading their names off a list. maybe it took me a few seconds to think about something to say about each one, but they deserved that time i gave them, and more.

100% agree, I'm 58 I can't believe there was a time when I actually thought that was cool. Seeing GBH in '85 get hawked on like it was raining, we thought that was awesome, disgusting to think of now, but this is a good reminder for our young cancel culture generation to learn by. Many times looking back at history things don't always make sense seen from a 2022 mindset perspective, but this doesn't mean the strange phenomenon didn't have a purpose at that time. Ironically, spitting on band back in the day was an upside-down way of showing complete acceptance, loyalty and even diehard love. Punk rock turned everything upside down, if it didn't make sense to the "normal world" that was all the better. Spitting on a band demonstrated complete acceptance and was a manifestation of the true rebellious nature of punk rock at the same time rejecting the mainstream rock and roll establishment that reigned supreme at that time

This person seems to have appeared out of nowhere so I have to assume he's been created by someone else. Mickey's contribution to the Ramones is not something he would brag about or should have to defend to ignorant commentaries like the above.
