The explanation of regulation and timing in this video was clear and concise. I never realized how many shots were taken at the factory to get everything just right before the guns were shipped to the dealers. With the current cost and scarcity of ammo, I'd imagine the cost of a premium double rifle will be significantly higher. Great video, thanks for posting.

Very interesting! Makes sense. I still would like to see a comparision. Let's say : a Heym bolt action scoped rifle in 375 H & H vs a Heym double scoped rifle in the same caliber, both tested for accuracy at 100, 150 and 200 meters.

This is absolutly unnecessary. Because you will never ever shoot a big bore double rifle on 100, 150 and 200 meters. But you will shoot a bolt action rifle action up to 400 or 500 meters.

sehr schöne Video , Doppelbüchse sind schön, teuer und nur für Druckjagd gemacht.

I'm interested in a 26b o/u for deer, elk, black bear, etc chambered in something like 3006. Do you still regulate such rifles at 50 meters? I really like an o/u double but being regulated at such a distance would make a double pointless for my use and make it functionally a single shot rifle if you wanted to shoot anything past 150-200 yards.

Why are doubles only regulated for 50 yards? Also, is regulation specific to a certain bullet weight?

Double rifles are traditionally made for dangerous game, which generally means the larger calibres (.400" cal and up). With these larger calibres, velocity falls off pretty quickly, AND, the trajectory is like a rainbow. So, DG rifles are generally sighted to 50m - which is considered a comfortable range to confidently hit the vitals. Also, these calibres generate high recoil, which is contributary to why these calibres are not very accurate at long ranges. Yes, the barrels are regulated for acvuracy using a specific bullet weight and velocity. This information must then be passed onwards to the first, and subsequent, owners. IMO I like to get in as close as possible - usually 30yds for cape buffalo - because the closer in you are, the easier it is to hit the vitals (closer in = bigger target) and better straight line penetration is achieved. 👍

I got news for you. That bullet has left the barrel long before the rifle begins to recoil. Go examine some slowmo footage and see for yourself.

It seems with modern CNC machines that a double rifle could be made as one piece. Then it would be automatically regulated.

Robert Brandywine maybe, the question then becomes how do you drill a bore at such a fine angle.

More CNC machines! I don't know, really.

The double rifle is immensly less accurate than a bolt action. The industry standard is regulated to hit within 2" of each other at 100 yards. That is plenty for point blank dangerous game hunting, but nowhere near moa that you can get out of a bolt gun.

You get MOA at 50m with open sights? Well done. You're also comparing a freight train to a sports car.
