A video tutorial of the card game Hezzop. It's a simple RPG style game that's played with regular playing cards and dice.
For more advanced play, watch the video for Hezzop Pro Rules: • Hezzop Pro Rules
NOTE:
There are two things I forgot to include in this tutorial.
1) When you run out of number and/or face cards to draw, just reshuffle the discard piles into new decks.
2) You can only have 7 cards in your hand by the end of each turn. If the number of cards in your hand exceeds that limit, you must discard the extras.
Feel free to ask any other question that come up while you're playing. I'll try to get back to you.
BASIC RULES:
Set-up:
1. Separate number cards from face cards (J,Q,K,A) into two decks.
2. Deal 7 numbered cards and 4 face cards to each player.
3. Lay face cards face up in front of you. These are your characters.
Turns:
1. Draw a card to start your turn.
2. You have two moves per turn. These can be used one of four ways: to challenge, draw again, random battle, or assign number cards to face cards.
3. You may only have seven cards in your hand, not including the face cards or any number cards assigned to them. If you exceed the maximum number of cards allowed in your hand, you must discard those extra cards before the end of your turn.
Process:
Assigning Number Cards:
During your turn, you may use one or both of your moves to assign number cards to one of your face cards. Numbers can only be applied to face cards of the same suit. Each face card has a maximum number of number cards that can be assigned to them.
Their associative values are:
Ace = 5 cards
King = 4 cards
Queen = 3 cards
Jack = 2 cards
These numbers indicate possible values that can rolled on the dice during a challenge or random battle. For instance, if the two cards attached to a Jack are a 2 and a 6, one must roll either a 2 or a 6 to successfully attack.
Challenging:
At any point in time during your turn, so long as you have a move left, you may choose to "challenge" your opponent. Your opponent then has a choice to either "accept" the challenge, or be "coerced" into fighting.
Accepted Challenge: If your opponent accepts the challenge, they get the first roll.
Coerce Challenge: If your opponent chooses to be coerced, you must select your character of attack and roll one of the numbers attached to them in order to force your opponent into battle. If you succeed, you get to attack first.
During a challenge, the two players select their character of attack and take turns rolling the dice to land on their selected character's numbers. The first to have a successful roll is the victor. The loser must discard the face card they used for battle and any numbers attached to them.
Random Battle:
Similar to a "challenge", at any point in time during your turn you may decide to activate a random battle. This causes the top card of the face card deck to be overturned, thus creating a new opponent.
The maximum number of number cards that the overturned card is permitted to retain are attached to it via drawn cards from the number deck. The overturned face card gets the first roll of attack (which is handled by the opponent). The player has to take turns like the challenge, and roll a number to defeat the face card.
If the player wins, they have the option to switch that face card out with one of their own.
If they lose, they must discard all the number cards attached to the character they used in battle.
Last Resort Random Battle:
In the event that a player has only one face card left, they can initiate a random battle in which if they win, can add the defeated card to their party. No switching necessary.

For those who don't know and haven't checked the rest of OP's channel: Earlier this year, he changed the rule about champions fighting without number cards attached (5:32). You can no longer guess any number you want, you must choose 11 or 12.

When I played this with a friend, we altered the game rules a bit. Instead of dying after the opponent rolls their number, you remove one of the assigned number cards! (HP system)

I literally had to stop after watching the first minute. I decided to finish the video and I will never play this game in my life... because you inspired me to make my own card game using a standard deck. There are lots of rules and things ,but it only took me a few hours and its still relatively simple I just need to add in a few more things and I'm done. Thank you and great video.

This is really cool! I cant get over how simple the supplies are! This can be more exiting using playing cards with legit anime characters on them and if both players bring their own deck, you could have xmen vs yugioh ect. This game is underrated as fuck.

The probability problem is the most common values for two dice are 7, then 6 / 8, then 5 / 9 etc, but 11-12 will always be misses (as you only have cards 2-10) and also the sweet spot weirdly peaks part way up. I've tried a variation of adding aces into the numbers deck and using a D10, so you always have an equal chance of rolling any of the ace through 10 values and there are no outright impossible rolls (like 11-12 in the original rules). With this, I added the two Jokers into the face cards as the best ones as they're rarer, so Ja2 Qu3 Ki4 Jk5. The main disadvantage with this version is that a D10 is less common that D6, but you know.

I created a low budget rpg. It's called cards and cobolds. It's a game where you play as yourself, and the dungeon master is the narrator for the story. You can play cards to perform actions while the dm makes out the outcomes for those actions. The rules are written on the dm screen. The setup is very easy. All you have is a bunch of decks of cards, and a game master screen.

The new SF RPG from Spain, FAITH RPG, uses playing-cards as well. The players are given a limited number of cards, and can choose to apply the relative "strengths" of the cards whenever it seems to them most dramatically important. When they really really have to "make" a roll, they play a high-power card. If they can tolerate interesting failures, play a low card. They may still succeed if the opposition goes lower.

I love playing this game! I ran into a couple of issues due to lack of information, so I just filled everything in by making tweaks to some of the rules. First, I had no clue how many cards I'm allowed to attach to my party members at any given time, so I simply limited it to 1 card. Second, I had no clue when to stop rolling during challenges and random battles, so I set it so each player gets one chance to roll one of the numbers attached to his/her champion in the case of challenges. In random battles, the initiating player gets one chance to roll one of the numbers on his/her champion, and the opposing player has one chance to roll one of the cards assigned to the face card from the face card deck. In the event that neither player can roll a number on one of their cards, the result is a draw which means no penalty for loss and no rewards for winning. Also, if a random battle results in a tie, the face card being battled is discarded along with the number cards assigned to it. I have found that running the rules like this significantly speed up the game. If I knew how many cards I could attach each turn and how many times each player can attempt to roll the dice in challenges and random battles, I wouldn't have come up with these solutions which I feel help greatly in improving the quality of play from this game.

7:00 it's not simple math. If your king has 4 cards, say 2,3,4, vs a queen with cards 6,7,8, you have more cards but still have less chance than the queen. Ultimately it's a bluffing game. Nice idea!

Just a heads up, if you are allowed to choose a number to roll when attacking with no number cards attached, and you are using 2 6-sided dice, it doesn't make statistical sense to pick anything other than 7. There are more roll possilibites for a 7 than any other number. 1+6, 2+5, 3+4, etc... however, rolling a 2, for example, only has one possible roll, 1+1. So allowing a person with no numbers attached to freely pick a number can put the other player at a disadvantage.

You could have a rule that party members can't challenge/be challenged for the first two turns (encouraging you to spend first 2 turns assigning cards), but still need a rule to incentivise assigning a card in the first place. Forcing unarmed party members to roll 11 or 12 could work since those are unused in normal play (I assume, haven't finished watching); flavor as unarmed fighting or improvised weapons. Will edit as I finish and think of better alternatives.

Hello Hezzop, thank you for inspiring the following: Schmiegel 2.0 is a “minimalist” role playing game that requires merely two players, a regular deck of cards, and a standard pair of dice. Each player manages their own adventure party, and the two parties are in battle with one another. Each party begins with four characters, and they can be rogues, clerics, wizards, or fighters. A player wins when they have eliminated their opponent's characters. www.reddit.com/r/rpg/comments/fosyui/schmiegel_v20_minimalist_standard_deck_dice_pvp/

Wouldn't it be better to make it so that a person with no cards only wins on a 2 or a 12? Because you're using two dice, there's no reason not to choose 7 as a number when you have no assignment (since 3-4, 4-3, 2-5, 5-2, 6-1 and 1-6 all add up to 7.)

Hello Daniel. This is a great game that you and your friend Zach invented. I've played it around a couple of months now and added a few modest tweaks into this very fun game. I'm curious to see what you think. Change 1: When rolling 2d6 every roll has almost a 17% chance of coming up 7. 7 is indeed the most probable number one can arrive at when rolling 2d6. So when a player is challenged/challenges an adversary or has a random encounter without any cards attached, or as I like to call it (for thematic reasons) "equipped", where is the incentive to name any number other than 7? To combat this, I opt to roll 1d10. Now the numbers one can arrive at are truly random. However, what happens when you roll a 1? This brings me to my... Change 2: Because I'm opting to roll 1d10 when a 1 is rolled this is considered to be a "critical hit" when rolled by a played controlled "Champion". The number 1 can never be named by a Champion that has no cards attached. This means that every roll of the die has a 2 out of 10 chance of success with no cards attached, making combat way more dangerous. When rolled by a random encounter it's treated the same as a normal success (the adversary would simply discard any attached/"equipped" cards). When rolled by a player controlled Champion, not only is this a success, but the player that rolled it can do 1 out of these 2 options: (Option 1) Fortify Equipment: Draw a number of cards from the "Number Deck" up to the "carrying capacity" of the Champion that rolled the 1. Choose 1 and place it in your hand. Discard the remainder. For example, a player controlled Queen rolls a 1. The player can draw up to 3 cards from the top of the Number Deck, choose 1 to place in their hand and discard the remainder. Thus potentially bettering their chances of being able to "equip" a card next turn. (Option 2) Scout the area: Draw a number of cards from the "Random Encounter" deck up to the "carrying capacity" of the Champion that rolled the 1. Secretly look at them and place them back on top of the "Random Encounter" deck in an order of the player's choosing. Thus potentially setting up an easy random encounter for them on a future turn(s) and/or setting up their adversaries for a harder one(s) on future turns. For example, a player controlled Ace rolls a 1. The player can draw up to 5 cards from the top of the Random Encounter deck, secretly look at them and place them back on top of the Random Encounter deck in an order of their choosing. Change 3: Do not reshuffle the Random Encounter deck when depleted. I've found during my play testing of this wonderful game that reshuffling the Random Encounter deck can make the game drag because players can potentially have "Last Resort Random Encounters" for quite awhile. After making the decision to not reshuffle this deck, the game sped up significantly. Well, that's it! I've really enjoyed playing Hezzop and thank you for inventing it!

I made an RPG with 1 deck of cards that I play when I'm bored at work Step 1. Separate all 4 card pairs Step 2. Take all face cards and ace and put then together Step 3. Mix Spades and Clover numbers together with all face and ace cards including heart and diamonds Step 4. Take 1 of the 2 jokers and shuffle it into the big deck/deck with face cards Step 5. Shuffle Heart number deck and draw 1 card...that card number is your health number...you put it next to the 2nd joker/who is your character Step 6. Shuffle the Diamond card deck full of just numbers...this is the damage deck Clarification. You should have 1 health number next to a joker infront of you...then a big deck full of all Spade and Clover numbers and every ace and face card...then a damage deck...and deck full of health points Begin. [Step A]. Flip top Big deck card over. [Step B]. If a number repeat [Step A]. [Step C]. If a face card put a random health point next to it like your joker card. [Step D]. Draw the top card of the damage deck and whoevers health point number gets drawn first dies. [Step E]. If you die game over [Step F]. If you win take face card as Trophie put damage cards and health cards back into there own decks...give yourself a new health number and then Repeat [Step A] Bonus. When and ace is drawn that means you are friends with whatever face card of the same suit...Example if you draw a Ace of Clubs all Club face cards won't be at war with you and you automatically win Goal. Your a joker and your goal is to be friends with each and every Kingdom in the land...When you find the second joker it becomes a companion and gives you double life meaning it gets its own health point. Can you unite all the kindomes and be the best joker in the land? Or will you fail like so many others before you

I would make a modification since guessing a number makes ZERO sense. All cards have 7 by default since it is the most common number rolled on dice. If you add a #7 to one of your cards that card is now immune to any 7 rolled. This is definitely a must. Also making the Aces BOTH an 11 and 12 makes alot more sense then using as a face card. You could use one joker each as a face with 5 possible add ons.

How much would it affect the game if you started it out with each of the 8 face cards having a random number card of the same suit attached to them? This would help avoid the "guess a number" situation if the person never attached a number before a fight. Also I don't know why the card dies if the opponent wins the challenge against him automatically on matching one of his cards. I think the attacker should also get the opportunity to get his number, and it would go back and forth until one person failed to match their numbers. .... And even better! Ditch the dice and get rid of that random factor in the game, and instead make it more about skill and decision. WHen you load up a card with numbers, that character chalenges whatever card he wants, and you match cards highest with highest against your opponent, with the lower card returning to the deck, and the one that runs out of cards first dies. If you can destroy your opponents face cards in a round, then that person loses the round. This creates tension as you don't know if you should hold out for a greater defense or go for the assault and hope for victory.

A champion card without any number cards attached should have to roll a 12 to win, not whatever number they pick. If they can choose then they'll just say seven every time because it's the most commonly rolled number. But a 12 is not a card value. An 11 should have some kind of bonus too.

For number cards we've simply taken the discard pile and reshuffled them into a new deck. While I've not played through a game where the face cards have been completely depleted, I would be tempted to refrain from reshuffling them, and let the game run its course. Otherwise, you could end up "Last Resort" battling your way until the cows come home...

You can challenge, random battle, or draw a card. However, if you're already maxed out, I'd just keep challenging.

Gunder Derek i was thinking equipped numbers are face down, and when you battle you flip them up. so the opponent doesnt see it till the battle starts

The google search engine has a built in random number generator, if you set it to 2-12 that’s the equivalent of rolling two six sided dice

Without dice or a computer, you can use two ace through 6 cards from a 2nd deck. Shuffle and draw two cards to simulate rolling two 6-sided die.

Could you make a single player version?
@TravanePhoenix
@TravanePhoenix 10 жыл бұрын
I have contemplated it. There are a few ways I could see a solo Hezzop work, however I feel they're lacking a strategic element. I know the game tends to work in tandem with blind luck, but I feel there are better ways to utilize that trait than simply rolling dice against yourself. I do have updated rules for dual play coming up (once I have the time to film them), including ways to incorporate three or more players. But seeing as I'm not the only one considering solo play a possibility, I'll definitely look into it.

can you play with more than 2 player?
@TravanePhoenix
@TravanePhoenix 4 жыл бұрын
You will need a deck per player, but yes, it's possible. You can have as many people as you can fit at a table, and play elimination style: out of cards and you're out. Typically with four or more I have a house rule that you can only challenge the person to your left or right. That way everyone in the circle can't gang up on one person.

When your opponent is out of cards? I don't know, but that's how players are eliminated when there are 3 or more.

I have had no issues on my end. Audio plays fine on both of my computers, and my phone. If I could duplicate the problem you are experiencing to resolve the hiccup, I would. I apologize if this has caused some frustration, but it's hard to fix a problem that isn't occurring on my own tech.

Uh....yikes! This should be called maybe something like "Combat Cards" or something like that as there is absolutely no role playing elements involved. It's a good effort and could be fun for pretty young kids,but not really for anyone over 8.

Something i didn't understand is when you start a random battle then win and switch one of your face cards if the face card has any numbers attached do you discard them or do you do something else?
@TravanePhoenix

Good question. Typically, I only switch out a face card I didn't invest anything into, but if there happens to be numbers attached I discard them.

@@TravanePhoenix oh, and if you have more then 7 cards do you have to discard the extras immediately or can you keep them until your 2 moves end (before your opponent draws the starting card) and then discard them?
