It has come to my attention that there might have possibly been a sizing discrepancy that occurred in the ordering process, and that I might not have received the XS as ordered. I will update as soon as I know more. Standby. 3/25/2023 edit: HF has changed their size offerings from 5 to 3 options. They have combined the XS and S size into one size, now known as ‘XS/S’, which is apparently what I was given even though I requested XS specifically. At the time of ordering my gloves and then later at recording this video, all 5 size options were listed as available for purchase on their website and there was a distinct size difference noted between XS and S. My understanding is that they have paired down the offerings from 5 sizes to 3 to be able to meet anticipated production. UPDATE 5/11/2023: after some back and forth, HF has agreed to send me a pair of XS gloves as I originally ordered and it seems they will be offering XS going forward. I’ll do a side by side comparison of the S and XS. I’m grateful that they rectified this with little fuss, and they were very nice to work with. Having XS gloves is a win for us small-handed-folk! ♥️⚔️ UPDATE: 6/8/2023 The new replacement pair in size XS arrived today! There is a noticeable difference in size. The XS is much smaller than the S overall.

I think these companies should stamp a size into the cuff, so student know what size they are - might help the people organizing the orders too. Can be difficult to distinguish one from another and the little paper size tags don’t survive very long…

Seeing a few people mention sizing notation on the gloves themselves, at least on the gloves I just got in today the size is written on the inside of the outer finger shell, behind the leather glove. If I pull the glove forward I can see "XL" written in silver sharpie. Good review!

@15:40 is great. The sturzhau was especially informative. Another thing that I struggle with in my Spez lobster claws is the deep/low schillhau. Would love to see if going vom tag to a schill gets the cross caught in plates or if the bulk obstructs general mobility.

Very nice and extensive review. Same experience with me. If I had to break the gloves down to one word I'd say: Thoughtfullness And what comes with it is a peace of mind when I go into sparring. I haven't lost a thought to my gloves, which was quite common before. I would check for gaps, tape and zip ties. Haven't done that ever since I got these gloves.

Currently waiting to get my pair! Last I heard from them, their next batch of gloves will get to them near the end of April

mine are due to arrive in a day or two and i can't wait to try them on.

I've got a pair on order for myself and two for my school.

just be aware, and i don't think this is exclusive to the HF glove, but the thumb is weak to hits to the side. What I mean is not cuts coming in from the top of the thumb, but to the side of it. We had someone very good get their thumb nearly hospital trip smushed that way.

My medium specs heavys don't fit in my buckler, so I use my rapier gloves with my heavy arm guards over that right now. I just placed an order with HF for the Black Knights.

These are great but its all sooo freaking bulky :D I thought red dragons were unnecessarilky big. And although these are more nimble than red dragons they are sometimes just too big. Gaps are really not necessarily big problem as crossguard protects you aswell.

The only thing I can add that kvetun gloves right now the best on the market)

We have different gloves for Longsword, Rapier & Dagger, bucklers, etc, and since we’re a small club with a high percentage of lefties, we’ve gotten by sharing each other’s off-hand gloves in these scenarios. 😂

We had a SPES heavy thumb-plate crack a few months ago and they sent us a new one no problem, but it was annoying and doesn’t feel great for the student who was so excited to get sparring and then it breaks… 😢

I like HF more then spes. But i have older version made from another material. The new one are even better

It's kinda ironic that HEMA went from period armor to sports protection and Olympic fencing gear back to armored gauntlets with lessons learned. I guess the stigma of reenactment and LARP is still strong so anything remotely looking like hard functional armor or gods forbid steel is still a bit taboo. Now i'm waiting for a proper helmet as masks for all their viewability are kinda crap at taking strong hits and glancing off blows.

Hi!. Have you tried these in a saber? I have small hands and am looking for protective gloves for heavy saber, mostly worried about thumb mobility for this.
