While it gives you a lot of information for the serious DXer, I suspect they won't sell a lot of these to the casual hams, like me. Not at $400.

I agree If 150$ was the price they sell a ton
@HamRadio2004 жыл бұрын
They might sell a ton... but the word is "might." Im building the satellite tracker and have spent close to 400$ on it I, sourcing it myself.... I think 400$ for the clock is a legit deal.... today.. may 2020.

That program is very useful. I already had a Raspberry Pi running an APRS iGate and other stuff, so it was a quick free download and install a few months back. The beacons are what I use most. As to $400, I could build similar for about half that but some people do not want to fuss and that’s fine too.

$400, these people are dreaming in technacolor. All this information is available on line. Most serious dxers have their computer ready to go when they are on the air.
@jonathanwarner18444 жыл бұрын
Worse than that - it looks like the already available free to use Ham Clock, which can be put on a Raspberry Pi -= but to cap it all, an ESP8266 is much MUCH cheaper and smaller than a Pi.

NEat device. As of March 2022 it appears to be a ghost device. Gigaparts no longer stocks nor accepts backorders blah blah. Duck Duck Go search led me to the makers web site. All they have is info about the clock and no info I could find on where to buy or how much it might cost. It appears Gigaparts was the only vendor that carried this thing. Oh well, made for entertaining video at least. Saved me some bucks since I can't buy one if i wanted to. I didn't try ebay.
@salat5 жыл бұрын
Wow - that thing costs $399.99 - A RasPi is at least a "real" computer - the ESP8266 is a $ 5 microcontroller (superseded by the a bit better and even cheaper ESP32) - they added like what: a TFT, GPS module, SD card and temperature sensor module? Dude, WTF..

At first I was like, I could just have a second monitor with these widgets displayed there or some other software, I dont need this. Then I realized, yes but that's exactly what this is. And then I looked at the price of $400 and decided against it. Maybe for $60.

This isn't a criticism of HRC who posted the video, but this seem to be a direct ripoff of this: clearskyinstitute.com/ham/HamClock/#tab-source as a few others have posted. I built one after it was featured in QST - works great. total cost was far, far less than $400! I'm guessing lots of hams will have a portion of the needed gear laying around the shack to build one. The display and I'm will to bet most of the code would match the code used in the QST project. If you like this (and I do actually) I'd recommend just building your own. 73 AF5QH

realy usefull for the shak, but the price is far to high. the slow grafics update is maybe caused by the serial connected Nextion display ? for that price i would expect it has a GPS module included instead using wifi to locate the position. even using an ESP8266 with an ESP32 available for same price is not realy wize. shure the servers with comfortable update and life data is perfect. just what i personally miss is an dx-spot display but on the end, 400 bucks is a lot ....

That looks nice, the frame is beautiful. Would a tablet such as a Kindle Fire or iPad be insufficient to perform these functions, or is there a website that offers this functionality? I used to love the World Map day/night clock DOS program on the QRZ! CD ROM, along with STS Plus for satellite tracking. It was fun keeping the Keplerian elements up to date. My shack resembled NASA/NORAD (in my mind) when ran those programs! (And don't forget APRS) I remember seeing a physical World Map day/night clock and it cost over $500.

For the same money, why wouldn't you go for a Geochron 4K? Much better graphics and use it with any size display.
@daveblaedow84195 жыл бұрын
The Geochron does not do half of what this other device does. All you're getting with it is basically a big picture of the earth that tells you when it's dark and Light where the aircraft flies at where the boat sail. It doesn't say anything about Beacon Towers it doesn't say anything about sunspots it doesn't help tell you which megahertz to be on when the sunspots are giving you issues it doesn't say nothing like that I think the $400 or whatever is worth and worth the money 100% I will be getting one as a ham radio operator.

everybody crying about the price. sure beats the rip off $2000 geochron! pshhh, its pretty cool, i want one but that pine wood looking frame is kinda ugly. they should have made a dark wood option or black would look killer.
