The truck was turning g well before the car got to the corner. The turn I narrow forcing the truck to go wide. Which he did perfectly. Just because now the car has reached the junction doesn't then make the truck at fault. Its the cars responsibility to wait then approach the junction. Unfortunately too many people nowadays seem too think that regardless they have the right. Check ur highway code ffs

So you think he'd have passed his test doing this do you? That would be an instant fail. Far too fast and absolutely no anticipation of other vehicles. The car driver prevented an accident, not the HGV driver. He would have been the cause had the car not braked hard.

Exactly, bad potential hazard awareness i would have been slowing down way before car did and not have needed to brake that much and i would thinking its a blind junction i have no way to know what is there or oncoming. I got taught that not only by a driving instructor but aslo in hazard perception i got hit with a blind junction clip i got 100% on that clip just by remembering what he taught me. Same with idiots driving through fords etc really fast showing off, there could be holes, bricks anything hidden i went too fast through a puddle learning and i got a right telling off for it

People should make sure the road is clear to turn into first and make sure they're not going to cause another vehicle to take avoiding actions

@@Bullwinkle39 Go look at the start of the video. The VW was more than the truck's length away from a Stop sign (note the yellow sign on the left). Driver could have just stopped there, given the truck some space and no worries. But no he / she had keep moving forward.

The issue isn't the turning circle. The issue is giving people chance to give them room. In this scenario the white car was already approaching the junction before the HGV came barrelling into view. And in any case if your vehicle necessarily has to use the wrong side of the road to manoeuvre, it's your responsibility to give way to traffic using their side of the road until and if another road user chooses to give up their priority to you.

@@1chish I'm not sure I agree, they just didn't have enough time to process and react to the HGV barrelling round the corner. But even if we take your comment at face value. It is is their right. Priority is given not taken. They had the priority, the HGV has to either give way to traffic if they need to use the wrong side of the road, or wait until somebody gives up their priority to them. Not just try and take the priority.

I back off on the motorway and let trucks and other vehicles come on I hold back loads of times a day. The loads still get collected and delivered maybe you would do them ten minutes quicker than me by pushing people out of the way. And ten minutes is being generous

He could see before turning that no one was at the stop line so he began to turn, as he got into the road the Volkswagen appeared and he perfectly executed the turn. You cannot expect a truck to take such a tight turn without crossing onto the other side of the road.

No it wasn't, he entered wrong side of the road and caused a car to do an emergency stop. As someone with an HGV licence myself I can tell you this is perfectly unacceptable.

The driver was committed because he was too fast and didn't clear.

The class 1 was already at the junction, as the car hadn't even pulled up yet.. You must allow a junction to clear before proceeding into the junction.. Even as a car driver you're expected to give way and not pull forward to stop the truck finishing, has not there been enough room the car would have to back up..

As a fellow lorry driver I think he did amazingly well. Didn't use unnecessary amounts of road, cleared the junction swiftly, didn't mount the kerb and used influence without bullying. Also I don't think he could pinch too much road from the right as there was a building there, there won't be a ton of rear end swing as hs axles are right at the back of the tailer, but he still had to take that into account. Either way, he did great.

We dont know that for sure. The car may have flashed him and /or deliberately braked early to allow the truck to continue unhindered. But if the car didn't do that, then yes you are right, but we dont know for sure why the car stopped early

They weren't driving at speed to the junction to stop you, they were driving up to the junction normally when you came round the corner too fast for the conditions. You admit you couldn't see what was round the corner so you should have been at a speed where you were prepared to stop. I'm pretty sure you'd have failed your driving test for that manoeuvre.

At no point was I meaning they were driving up to the junction to stop me, simply stating that they were approaching the junction with excessive speed that the video doesn't show. With regards to me making the manoeuvre at excessive speed I was not I did it in a safe manner and would have been able to stop if the need arrived, in fact if you watch the video you can see me ease off just before I start the manoeuvre, I was simply stating I used speed in a manor that I felt was safe in order to get round the junction to clear from being an obstruction on the main road, I would not have done that manoeuvre if I didn't feel it was safe to do so when I started the manoeuvre the white car was miles away from the junction allowing me to do it safely but due to excessive gained on me quickly. As for the vomment about failing a test an examiner would never but a new driver in such a tight situation so that point is void, also as my instructors and examiners have said in the past they teach you to pass the test the real driving and learning starts after you have passed hence the fact I did the manoeuvre I did due to past experience of this sort of situation

Your right. Except you missed the point. The drivers speed forced a possible dangerous situation. The HGV should have maneuvered slower giving the beetle more time to react. At this speed the HGV forced their way through the junction.

It was far too fast. That would have been an instant fail if it was his test. Clearing a manoeuvre isn't the only requirement when it comes to driving an HGV. This driver had zero anticipation. Of course he needs more room but he should have been doing half that speed. It was reckless driving.

But many car drivers don't appreciate the extra space an HGV needs to conduct certain manoeuvres, like having to swing wide to get round tight bends. I've been driving for 39 years and I've had a class 1 HGV licence for 29 years, so I can give an objective viewpoint.
