I was born in 1956 in Epsom Surrey and spent the first Ten Years of My Life in Ashtead Village. Then a few days after My 11th Birthday, My Parents dragged Me kicking and screaming to a Hell Hole on the other side of the world (an old Railway Town known as Peterborough, South Australia). When you arrive in a dust bowl onboard a train right out of a cowboy film you know civilisation is a long way behind you. Watching your videos and hearing Place Names from My childhood is a tangible connection to the land of My Birth. Just for context, most of My old Primary School’s Playground is now buried beneath (figuratively) the M25 circular car park.

Ahh Erith. I used to visit a site at that industrial estate fairly regularly a few years ago. It's so sad to see that the fly tipping is still as bad as it was back in 2020... Really grim estate, I couldn't imagine having to work there everyday.

The highways agency used to print the truckers guides at one time. Most of the truckstops have disappeared now, like truckworld at Thurrock and the monkey jump at Dorchester and the Red Lion just outside Bedford (closed by the police when drivers stopped using it because the copers kept pulling them over first thing in the morning and breathalysing them). As far as I'm aware Erith is pronounced Erith low e. And Deal has always been in Kent. I remember because I nearly blocked the town off once when the MAN artic brick carrier I was driving decided to keep dumping the air causing the brakes to stick on. Caused by the garage forgetting to change the filter on the compressor during service. Always pull down on the bearers with wood and always try to keep the bearers in line. Best of luck.

Fly tipping is an epidemic currently in the uk, and the parasites who do this get nothing but a slap on the wrist. It’s time they spent some good time in jail, after they’ve been forced to clear up their mess. Great vlog Luke, sorry for the rant, but…….

The only problem is trying to see who fly tipped, especially in remote and quiet areas and areas without CCTV. I see why fly tipping almost never occurs on busy roads or motorways.

Always very annoying loading in the rain especially torrential rain when it is really cold. Underestimate to say that they have a fly tipping problem on that industrial estate. Thanks for a great video. Stay safe and take care.

That road you drove in on. I've been down a few times to that industrial estate... there's always been flytipping down there as far as I've known. Terrible road to drive down in the dark

The other day when the A419 was closed by Swindon Where I had to deliver (Go Outdoors) is on the closed slip road So I moved the sign and put it back behind me Some moronic car driver followed after only to be hurtled after by PC Plod 🤪

Definitely the right way in at Deal in years gone by, used to regularly deliver to Builder Center there, now Jewsons. From the Builder Center Feeder Depot at Henfield, near Shoreham funnily enough.

“Used to” being the word there mate. I was with my dad in his truck 25+ years ago when he used a map also. I know how it works. But just because someone doesn’t use them now doesn’t mean they can’t do it. Why would anyone use a map. They’re outdated, roads are always changing, including heights on bridges, they don’t give you traffic information, they don’t give you moving speed camera locations (not that you need to know this but still) Times move on mate. I’d happy to a challenge video where we’re given a place and an address. You only use a map, I use technology. Let’s see who gets there first. Maps like Collins maps were used back in the day I know. But not today. Outdated, old fashioned and quite frankly useless information unless you purchase up to date maps which Incase is also costly.

Never had any bother parking on double yellow lines overnight, not always easy to find anywhere to park these days, The UK needs to look after its truckers and provide better free parking facilities, people seem to hate lorries, but where would we all be without them. Thanks for the video.

Dumping. Fly Tipping. Maybe it is a result of Councils charging extreme amounts of money to take your rubbish to the recycling centres. Some centres you have to book an appointment. People therefore do it carelessly to avoid the hassle & bureaucracy.

That rubbish was in either Scott's or trucker jay at maxi video from ages ago and was alot worse so nothing to do with a fire it's fly tipping at its worst,you wouldn't want to deliver to that estate often would you it's a shithole,when they put road closed signs up it should say how far up it is,I would personally say its better to have to many straps than not enough,🙂👍

Not a silly question. I carry a tub of water with me and soap. As well as towels. you can freshen up outside. Alternatively, you can use things like wet, wipes and deodorant. it’s not the cleanest, but it does the job. a little bit like wild camping. Of course, there are showers in service stations so you can if you want to stop en route and have a shower before parking up

Doesn't matter in a hgv if you pass in an auto you can still drive a manual truck but you do need to have a manual car licence in order to do your hgv licence.

@@stichupman You can take your LGV test with an automatic transmission-only car licence. However, if you take your LGV test in an automatic truck, your LGV categories will be restricted to automatic only. You can remove all the automatic only restrictions on your licence by taking any test in a manual - you can retake your car test or you can add a new truck or bus category in a manual.

I’m surprised I get asked this a lot. The timber is treated and is stored outside at the docks. It’s also stored outside at all the delivery places. I would I tarp it? 😂

I noticed some twists in your straps Luke.. is that permitted over there? Because in Australia it isnt! If the Transport Dept. pulls you over down here its a fine... then the bastards start looking for something else !
