Thanks for this video! Great quality. I'm looking forward to buy one, so I'm watching around lots of YT videos, and this one is my favorite so far, plus is really recent. :) Cheers!

I've been trying to find something more exciting than the mx keys mini to swap between a windows laptop and mac for development. Looks like this might be it! Thanks for the great video!

I would recommend using Karabiner-Elements to map your control as a tab & hold key, where the tap is escape and hold is control. That way, you are free to map the escape key as the tilde/grave key. I couldn't stand having that key on the other side of the keyboard when programming. Also the tap/hold mapping is a must if you're a vim user.

I prefer the arrow keys on HHKB than any other, because I do not have to move my hand to my far right. It takes some getting used to, but once you are used to it, you will find the 82,84 or above layouts tedious to use (IMHO).

Really nice video, i am looking forward to buying one and this has been useful. Watch out tho, the keyboard is not mechanical, it's an elettrocapacitive membrane keyboard.

Can it be configured to support spaceFn? So that I can long press space + hjkl as arrows. I think having to reach all the way to the right for fn really defeats the purpose of the hhkb layout which was intended to reduce hand movements.

You can do this using Karabiner-Elements for the mac, but I ended up not using that because of the lag. I love the spacefn on my keyboards with QMK.

Linux has many daemons that allow you to emulate this behavior. I used to use interception-tools, now I use keyd to turn my $10 keyboard into HHKB. These daemons let you do a lot more than you need.

@@atommixz interesting, never thought about going at it in the kernel level. but now a year later i am a happy Corne user and not going back to staggered layout

Never really got into keyboards, but the first thing I think I would do would be to change the arrow keys to h, j, k & l.

You can choose to either don't have one, have it on the keys next to the spacebar, or on the outside keys of the bottom row.

It’s do think it is worth lubing the HHKB. You’ll find it gets a ton smoother and the sound is a more refined thock and a bit more silent.

The sound is not high fidelity. Actual sound is better.

I don't understand how this is a "programmer" keyboard ... is it the dobra switches? Why would you want a 60% as a programmer? I mean I get why you'd want it as a gamer, but it makes no sense for me that a programmer would want that. Or dobra switches to be honest. To any programmer looking for a nice new keyboard. Bro, just buy a nice mechanical board. You get get boards that are 50x higher quality than this for half the price. You can just customize your keys and layers on something like VIA which even most budget mechanical keyboards support nowadays. You can get a better layout. 60% is great for gaming since it's very compact and gives you more mouse space. But for programming? Listen, I'm no programmer but that just makes little sense to me. If you use the arrow keys a lot why would you want a board that requires you to FN+key to use an arrow when you can just get a 65% or 75% board and have the arrow keys included, in a still compact body? I have a bunch of boards, my latest is "budget" board from Keychron (v1 max). it has VIA/QMK support, it has bluetooth and 2.4hz, a 1000hz polling rate for wired and 2.4. It's a hot swap board (don't ever waste money on a board that isn't hot swap lol), it has a 4000 mah battery that can last up to 225 hours or so on bt without rgb turned on. It's gasket mounted and filled with multiple layers of foam and stuff to give it a better sound profile. It's got a 75% layout, nice full sized arrow keys and a function row. It also has a nob that you can customize (it raises and lowers sound, press to mute on default). It comes with a usb A and usb c 2.4hz adapter etc etc. it's infinitely better than this 60% board that costs 3 times the price. Also you get much more options for keycap sets and different types of switches if you prefer a more heavy or lighter switch etc.

Some programmers use specific text editor that lets them navigate through their source code without using arrow keys. Also compact size means every key is within the reach of their fingers (esc and delete keys are actually closer than other layouts). So yea the keyboard is very niche and there are plenty of other better options but for those who find it comfortable, they never look back on other keyboards
