Ngomakurira, a few kms north of the Zimbabwean capital Harare, is a favourite weekend outing for locals, but almost totally unknown to tourists. This spectacular granite inselberg offers unlimited hiking, biking and off-road driving opportunities, and is one of many secret wonders in Zimbabwe that deserve to be shared with a wider audience. I made this video on a whim, hoping to bring this little-known treasure to the rest of the world.

This was amazing Gus, thank you so much! You just brought me so much joy I could not stop smiling for one second. I used to hike up Ngomokurira all the time (and once drove up) and there’s truly nothing like it! I miss Zim with my life

Lived in Domboshawa for a couple of years and honestly didn’t know people had to pay to see the views until sometime later.

Hey Gus. Can you please include mermaid rock on your list of places to visit. Wanna see what it's like and if it's a place that can be developed into a tourist attraction.

Thanks for the detailed info Gus. Can you help me find the turnoff? I plan to drive there tomorrow morning to see if I can find a spot for a sundowner / sunset dinner with my wife for her birthday.

Is Ngomakurira a cousin to Dombashaba - looks similar?

It is indeed. Also granitic and in fairly close proximity. They are thought, by geologists, to be part of larger batholithic igneous intrusions which date back 2.5 billion years or so. Part of the classic granite-greenstone terrain which covers most of the central and eastern parts of the country.

I think it means "the sound of drums". Maybe a reference to the Apostolic Christians who worship there? (mentioned by Gus)
