Another great episode! Can’t wait for the next! Didn’t realise that Wolsey’s grave isn’t the one situated in the Abbey ruins! Not so much of a hunt for his grave
@HiddenHistoriesofLeicester4 жыл бұрын
Yeh, I think that when the Abbey foundations were ‘exposed’ by the council for Abbey Park, it was probably felt that some sort of grave marker should placed to recognise Wolsey’s interment. But, after the dissolution, the Abbey buildings were razed to the ground and much of the stone reused to build Cavendish House. So, I assume any grave markers (and possibly the graves as well) would have been removed at that time. Who knows, perhaps Wolsey was thrown into the Soar?!?! 😳 Or he could still be buried there somewhere! 🤔🤔

I have watched about half a dozen of these narratives and really love them. I will add you to my Patreon list and will continue to see more. Sadly, am too old to actually visit them but will always appreciate your efforts.

Excellent video again! Music was a bit more subdued and you seem to be getting more relaxed in front of the camera. Keep 'em coming, and we'll keep on watching!

Another wonderful and informative episode. Thank you. Perhaps, after finding King Richard the third`s body, Cardinal Wolsey should be the University of Leicester`s next discovery!

The University of Leicester’s school of Archaeology and Ancient History and ULAS actually did digs at abbey park for a number of years, but sadly, no sign of Wolsey - although I don’t think they tried the car park! 🤔😉👍🏻

This is wonderful! It's very engaging with the use of satellite maps, locations and excellent explanations of the topic. As a History teacher in the US, I think my students will respond well to the visual presentation. Thank you!

Hi Elizabeth! Really pleased that you’re finding the films engaging and educational! I’m intrigued - is Leicester on the Curriculum in your town/state??? 🤷🏻♂️🤔

Really interesting, having visited Abbey Park numerous times as a kid always thinking Cardinal wolsey was actually buried in the tomb within the ruins, now I find out at 51 years old he isn't. Just shows every day is a school day. Looking forward to the next history lesson.

Excellent! And the music was turned down 🤗. As you have been to Lutterworth and Launde, do you intend to do more of the county? We have St Mary in Arden in Market Harborough which was attached to Great Bowden. There is a lot of history to do with both. We also have St Dyonisius Parish church with its magnificent steeple in the town centre. Cromwell used it as a stable and Hospital after the Battle of Naseby.

Hi Christine, pleases you enjoyed it and the music wasn’t a nuisance! 🙂👍🏻 I do try to get out to the county when and where I can as its history is intrinsically entwined with that of the city and these stories don’t stop at local government boundaries. Market Harborough will definitely feature in at least 1 upcoming episode, don’t worry. Keep your eyes peeled and you may even spot me filming one day! If so, please do come and say ‘Hi!’ Jim 🙂

So interesting. More should be done to highlight our history in Leicester. Are there any artefacts on display with regard to these lost historic buildings. Looking forward to next video. Thanks Jim
@HiddenHistoriesofLeicester4 жыл бұрын
Hi Pam, there are now a number of heritage panels dotted around the city (see news.leicester.gov.uk/news-articles/2017/april/heritage-panels-bring-buildings-past-to-life/) that highlight some of the town’s history. But I agree, there’s lots more that could be done, which I suppose is why I make these. Just need to find someone willing to pay me to do it now! 😉👍🏻

A fascinating presentation, Jim. You are a great communicator. What happened to all the bodies found under the two disappeared churches?
@HiddenHistoriesofLeicester4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! 😊 The remains we’re all reburied at Gilroes Cemetery and a mass was said for them all at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church between New Walk and Wellington St. 👍🏻

Great Video, do you know where the bodies were reburied from the medieval site of St Peter’s?
@HiddenHistoriesofLeicester3 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that they were reburied in consecrated ground at Gilroes cemetery 👍
