The summer is in full swing on our Portuguese farm. Its way too hot to do any farming activities so instead we find really fun ways to spend time with our good friends and explore this beautiful area.
We get together with some good friends and go for a cycling trip into the Gardunha mountains where I take you to some of my secret swimming spots, beautiful mountain top viewing areas and some places that I've never been before.
The Ocreza river starts in the Gardunha mountains and we take a bunch of awesome ebikes for a test drive to find the source. Along the way we stop off in some secluded (and secret) swimming holes and really push our bikes to their limits climbing the windy country roads up the mountain to the village of Casal Da Serra. From their its all dirt tracks as we cycle across to a beautiful picnic area called Pastelaria de Gardunha.
It was such a fun day and such an awesome gift from Himiway to have sent us this awesome ebike. I hope you enjoy the video. All the best to you all :)

Hello Ken, great vlog, i watch them almost every weekend. So i looked up who António Pires is, it says he was a cyclists from Portugal, born in Benquerença, Castelo branco in 1941. His family moved to Angola when he was in his teenage years, he had 8 cycling titles with best records and speed, he also broke the record in Mozambique, riding 3000km race in 1964, carrying 68.5kg, he was 24 years old at the time. He returned to Portugal in 1975, to Castelo Branco where he worked for the Junta Autónoma de Estradas until his retirement.

As an animal lover I have not forgotten Dog Dog. His death came so suddenly (one could see him at the beginning of the video) that was a shock! One can see that Gina is still grieving(you must be too though you do not show it so much). Anyway. You said you would make a video about that lovely dog so I am still waiting. Love Filipa.

🎉 my father is 83 years old and he has one bike similar to that one. There's also a bike made for woman and I used this June there in Portugal. I live in Orlando Florida, but I'm Portuguese.

Some truly amazing scenery you have there in central Portugal. Thanks for an incredible tour through part of the Gardunha Mountains. Just to say that the 'critter' you found on the mountain track isn't a species of Acanthoplus, whose range is restricted to southern Africa. The one you came across is more likely to be something like Thyreonotus, which does occur in Portugal and Spain. Nice to see footage of the female ovipositing.

I lived in the UK for 17 years and every winter I was plotting my "escape" 😅 Just before Brexit, and after 17 years in the UK, I decided enough was enough, and I planned our Portugal move. Its worked really well for us, but there were a lot of challenges along the way too, that nearly derailed us many times! A steadfast determination, along with a bit of luck, and some hard work (every now and then) has lead to where we are now. It might not work for everyone, but for us we are really happy where we have ended up! The grass isn't that much greener, but I'm less stressed out and I'm not just trying to "keep my head above water" to breathe anymore :) I wish you good luck and all the best for your journey dude.

It was super fun!!! Ebikes are coming down a lot in price as more and more manufacturers are making them. The main expensive part is the lithium batteries. That too is dropping in price, but until they find something cheaper and as good as lithium, it will always be the main price factor :)

What an AWESOME EPISODE!!! I WANTED TO GO TOO!!! Even goosey goose wanted to go! How come the girls stayed at home!!! Mind you, the artwork was incredible. Gina, you are very very talented. I want those 😅The exploring reminded me of when I was a teenager and set of on a bike (not electrical) with my cousins and sis with lunch packed and we just came back in the evening, in the middle of the forest too, we loved feeling we went on adventures awww. Everyone was so cool, too funny together!! Wasn't Stuart's bike too small for him? Or is he a giant? He kind of looked like me when I'm using my lil cousin's bike😂. Your bike was awesome but that bell ruined it 😂. Can't belive you were riding with one hand!! Your reaction to the non existent bees is indicative of bee trauma 😂. Good idea about the solar panel. I think Stuart was trying to show you that his bike recharged uphill! Amazing scenery up the mountains ❤.

You'll need to take back what you said about them getting on those solar panels on the fly, that e-bike doesn't need any of it! 💯 It's a moot point for that particular bike. Nice.

Helmets aren't compulsory in Portugal when riding bicycles and I feel confident and very safe riding ebikes like this. I would definitely wear one on a motorbike though :)

As far as I know, it's anything that can cause a spark from an exhaust or from flinging rocks around. Google "rural fire risk portugal" and you'll find a page showing the local fire risk level for the day. They have a guide for what activities are allowed depending on the fire risk level and what time those activities can take place.

Having tried so many different e-bikes, which one would you say is most comfortable over rough terrain? We are planning to get one (or two) and there are suddenly so many available that our heads are spinning a bit. Also, do you have a discount code for Europe, or only the UK and the US?

Hi Sarah, its a tough one to be honest as they are all very different and good at different things. For rough terrain you want to get something with good shock absorbers and fat tyres to absorb the bumps which are more like a mountain bike style of bike. This Himiway ebike does fantastic with its huge wheels, fat types and hydraulic shock absorbers. Theres even some suspension in the seat to absorb the knocks, but it is a very large and heavy bike. This is not a problem for me but if you are very small and light it could be a bit on the big side. We have some smaller moped style bikes which we have ridden on our channel and they are also very comfortable, require almost no effort to ride, and one of them in our upcoming Sunday video has become Ginas favourite overall :) For me this Himiway is by far the best ive ridden to date!

@@OKportugal I had just about decided to buy the Himiway, but will wait to see Gina's new favorite first! We're neither particularly small, nor particularly big, but we are in our 70s, though fit. I was thinking that the weight might serve to keep me grounded as I bounce around our rocky, remote property! We are not likely to want to lift the thing up very often, but even so, it is about the weight of the sacks of concrete mix, etc. we regularly heft around...

I heard you can not apply for a Portugal golden visa with the investment in property market from first of August 2023. So property prices will go down drastically. Any opinion about this news?

I dont think it will affect property prices. In 2022 there was an 12.6% increase in property prices in Portugal. Golden Visa property purchases in 2022 represented only 0.58% of all properties sold in Portugal. Its not even 1% of the overall property market. A lot of people complained about how golden visas were pushing up real estate prices, now i guess we will see the effect it really had. Property prices are going up everywhere, every country, every city, all around the world.

According to Google, house prices increased by 10.3% in 2022 in the UK. I guess we will see at the end of 2023 if they come down this year, but I'm very doubtful.

Our original ebikes when we first arrived in Portugal nearly 4 years ago were Trek and a KTM Ebikes. These smaller brands are getting better and better every day and way outperform our older big brand models. I would love to test out some new 2023 big brand bikes though 😁👍

The Zebra is around £2.5k in the UK what's it cost in Portugal ? How about a tricycle version with cowhorn handlebars one could wear a hells angel waistcoat with built in solar panel in the back👍 😂 How's that for cool ? If it goes into production I claim the © 😁😉

It's not compulsory to wear helmets on bicycles or ebikes in portugal. I have a lot of experience on bikes and as I was filming at such slow speeds did not think it was necessary. If it was a motorcycles or I was pushing high speeds then I would wear one 😊👍

Those bikes are called "pasteleira" coming from pastelar basically lazyness, taking too much time. You are doing 40 in a 100 causing trafic they will say "tá a pastelar". That dínamo usually in the front for the ones I've seen is responsible for the headlight energy. That plate on the handlebars and license plate are usefull to identify the owner since that bike was probably the most valuable thing they had at home. I don't think he was a known cyclist probably just someone who would sell things
