Very interesting video, luv when you transition to the past. I remeber the waltzer that was owned by Stanly John Cubbins, From 1983 i traveled with that very waltzer for about 3 years mainly around the fylde area after it was removed form the winter gardens and spent some years on bonny street where the market is now. Fun and much better days then. Thank you for the fabulous trip down what i can only discribe as wonder years of my youth. GREAT BIG THANK YOU.

You really need a "road map" to navigate that basement, as it's a maze of nooks and crannies. Darren, what you're doing for Winter Gardens is similar to what Martin Zero did for the River Medlock. Thanks to AdventureMe for another fine watch. "Rollercoaster?"

My uncle lived in Blackpool for many years and for a time worked as an electrical engineer for the fair in the Olympia Hall. He told me about those tunnels and said he once got lost down there trying to find a certain appliance room. With no radio's or mobile phones he apparently wondered around for about an hour getting increasingly disorientated before eventually finding his way back out. 😆

I had completely forgotten about the funfair in the Olypia building but I can now remember it being very quiet and even wondered as a child how it could compete with the Pleasure Beach just down the road. I remember going to an Ideal Homes style exhibition in the Olympia in the 1960s. It is where I saw my first colour TV. In the 1970s I attended the Hairdresser's Fair that was opened by Anne Kirkbride who played Deirdre Barlow in Coronation St and Ken Farrington who played Billy Walker. In 2014 the Olympia was home to the amazing Illuminasia Exhibition. I would love to see that return with a different theme.

Hi Darren, great tour again. I have to admit I didn't know a lot about the WG's as we mostly stayed in St.Anne's on holidays. Then usually to BPbeach and the prom/piers. Living in Batley it was equidistant to Bridlington etc and Lancs coast, east cost usually won as there was the Pennines to navigate (no M62 in those days 🙄) well enough with the nostalgia 😎 Cheers DougT in Mancs

Been loving your Winter Gardens videos. As a kid in the late 70’s to mid 80’s my family would usually have a weeks holiday in Blackpool and we spent a lot of time in WG. Professor Peabody’s brought back some memories and my dad would always drag us to whatever show was on at night (usually something like Little & Large or Cannon & Ball). I do remember one season the arena (or could have been the ballroom) had live entertainment at the evening and we saw Black Lace performing there 😂

I can't explain how much I'm enjoying this series -- and we're at episode 6 already..!! I too remember Prof. Peabody's soft play, good times..! It's around the time I saw Cannon & Ball live at the WG. So, any idea how many episodes are remaining...??

Great video I remember professor peabodys well. There is a cut out of him in the west coast rock cafe not far from there. After peabodys It turned into a go kart track and early 2000s they tried bringing back the fairground don't think it was successful.

Hi, great series. Looking forward to the video on the big wheel. You might already know this but one of the carriages off the wheel still survives not far from Blackpool. Hopefully you'll be able to visit it for the video, let me know if you want more details, thanks.

Is this the one attached to the ladies house. Used to be a tearoom? If so I have covered it in the video. I'm curious if there are any more.

Yes, that's the one. I thought you'd know about it but didn't want it missing out if you didn't. I used to go to it as a child when it was a tearoom.

Can you get access to the offices being a large void space for fire regulations access has to be possible and a new fire alarm is visible in one of the pictures .I used to go to Professor Peabodys around 1984. Room 25??. Hopefully, you'll get access to the offices in the pictures. A great vlog & great content! All the best!

It would be cool to do a laser scan or photogrammetry of the place. From there, you could see where those arches went AND if there's any likely hidden spaces remaining to be discovered.

I'm sure I remember a car show in Olympia. I've long thought the best thing they could do with Olympia, given how grotty it always was (and I'm not sure painting most of the interior walls black, as in your video really makes it much less grotty) is to knock it down and restore some gardens or other open space there. Curious that they were setting it up for what looked like a conference, when they've just built the new WG conference facilities at the opposite corner of the site.
