This is really cool! My wife and I were looking for a good slat wall hidden door design and I think this is perfect and keeping it simple! Thanks for the great video!

Amazing work! Do you have any clips detailing how you install the hinges? What measurement from the finished wall do you install them if you're using 1x2 slats?

I show more on my IG. Same name. I do a lot of hidden hinges. Doors are where they want them and I can adjust the slats as needed. Can always mess around with spacing

Love the finish and looking to copy this exact idea for a hidden bathroom door & storage wall. Is the top of the door slats angled to get the flushed look? Are the slat fitted directly to the wall or do you have any acoustic material behind it?

Slats are mounted directly to 1/2” mdf. Pre sheeted the walls and then they were flush drywalled to. The angled look was only for design purposes

Great work!! How do you accommodate the hinging so that the slats don't hit eachother when the door opens?
@topnotchfinishing8 ай бұрын
I start with a slat on the hinge side. Then leave the thickness of a slat + 1/8 so it opens into that pocket. If that makes sense

@@topnotchfinishing I think so. That is the biggest hang up i have before trying this. I am just worried after all of that effort, the paneling catches on the hinge side when opening the door.

i need somethign similiar, my secret door just needs to open in the other direction, do you have any idea for a hinge or latch system?

Done them swinging either way. Sugatsune e190 or tectus 340 hinges

Is there a way to have these doors able to lock from the inside if they were used for a bathroom?
@topnotchfinishing9 ай бұрын
For sure. Do them all the time. Get a Emtek single sided deadbolt

Beautiful...I love the look and have a few questions because, I would like to do something similar. What are the slat dimensions and the spacing of said slats. Also in reference to the notched out top..were you referencing having to slim down the slats to garner the flush appearance when the door is closed.
@topnotchfinishing Жыл бұрын
The slats are a paint grade 1x2. So 11/16x 1 1/2. The spacing is a 1x2 on edge. That allows the door to open. The pieces are notched up top so when you push in the door for the push latch, it all compresses 1/8 to work.

Can a door like that in a different setting can be open by someone on the inside of the room?
@topnotchfinishing2 ай бұрын
Yeah, just push it. For rooms I’ll have a single sided deadbolt and a dummy handle.

did you make the door and jam? would love to see that
@topnotchfinishing6 ай бұрын
I make my own jambs for these types of doors. I buy just flat slabs, 8’ x3’ x 1.75 thick and then add slats onto them

Is that a frame or whole door on back side of slat wall?
@topnotchfinishing10 ай бұрын
Not totally sure I understand. But I had door slabs that I cut to fit. I make my own jamb and hang a door to it
