Oh my, this video just blew my mind when I saw the dish (Rajská) you orderd. My grandmother used to make this dish so many times for me, exacty like that and I kind of always thought it was only her creation. Now I know, that it is a real Czech dish and I kind of feel stupid but also amazed. She comes from the Sudetenland by the way, so not to wonder that she knew how to cook this. Thank you for bringing back this small memory of my childhood Janek. I really want to make this dish again now, need to ask my mum for my grandmothers recipy for her "bread dumpling" , which wie call "Ködel" in Germany.

On your pronunciation of Svíčková. My father, who learnt Czech formally as a diplomat, pronounced it as written, with 3 syllables. My mother, who never learnt Czech formally but picked some up from living there, pronounced it with 4 syllables with a schwa added at the start i.e. Səvíčková. It is interesting to hear you pronounce it with 4 syllables as Sɪvíčková. Is this a Prague accent thing?

Hi, I'm living and working here in Prague. I'm software engineer at Microsoft actually. I hang out every weekend with friends from work and we decided to go there because we were hyped by the elephant stuff. The place is nice, the food and beers are great. BUT, they didn't offer the card to collect the elephants, when we asked for it a guy said that he would come back and said "no card sorry". It looks like the cards to collect the elephants are only for Czech people 😕 Also the place is supposed to close at 11pm but by 10:30pm we were pressed to pay and go. It was so-so, we visited better places in Prague! That's sad because we would have just came back until we hit the 100 beers mark to put our names on the wall.

We used to call these St Gall's Street and the Coalmarket. The Czech pub naming tradition is somewhat similar to the British one. Why do some countries have this while others (e.g. Ireland) don't? Why are Prague street names always adjectives with no noun? Coffee & cake belt cities always feel like home to me.
