After the great hills fire in Oakland California in 1991, I had to do a week of community service for a couple traffic tickets I could not afford to pay at the time. After my first day of picking up wood to be cut into firewood, I lucked out and got a job directing the trucks doing the cleanup from the fire where to dump their loads. This was down the hill from the rest of the workers and quite solitary, surrounded by the forest. The guy who had the job previous to me showed me around on my first day, and told me what I needed to do, then said he hoped I had brought a book because most of the time I'd be sitting around just waiting with nothing else to do. I made a mental note to bring a book the next day, and he also showed me another way he made use of the time, witch was stripping the eucalyptus tree bark and weaving baskets from them. My baskets were obviously nowhere near the quality of the makers shown in this film, but it was fun making them and I gave them away as presents on christmas. I've always loved making things myself, and I learned to sew clothes as a child, and later as an adult became a professional furniture/cabinet maker for over 20 years, best job I ever had. during my 30's I also worked for a few years at local renaissance faires, and then I got into leather working for fun as well. Mostly now I mess around in photoshop making textures for games in my spare time when I am not playing guitar. And although that is creative and rewarding in some ways, nothing really compares to making something with your own hands.

I love witness of old times... It seems so far from our modern days. We truly lost much even we win better life compared to them. Handy jobs garantee yu a soul... Something others will never reach. Am a french cabinet maker and restorator. Worked on construction too. And i always had regrets about workshop mood and satisfaction yu feel at the end of a day of work with yur hands.
