Geoff and Layne both do a lot of the cooking at home. They're constantly singing, humming, and otherwise vocalizing rather than having a set "practice" time. Geoff shared a quote that said essentially, learn to beatbox and you'll never be alone. So they're grilling and cooking and baking, while creating their own soundtrack. Kathy and Cyndi never have to wonder where their guy is at home because neither can be quiet for very long.

Voiceplay hasn't toured since before the pandemic. They are looking for a permanent 5th before they go back on tour, but everyone they have offered the spot to can't for one reason or another. Ed Boyer does thier final mix, and he's also the final mix for Homefree and Pentatonix. Before it gets to him either Geoff or Layne does an initial mix (whichever one did the arrangement) and they put in most of the cool pans then, or at least tell Ed what it should do.

Please put VoicePlay back on your KZfaq list. I enjoy your reactions but I need to have you do it on KZfaq. Lauren is aka The Stairwell Siren where she goes into the apartment stairwell and sings creepy songs to amuse her neighbors. She also did a solo of this on TikTok that went viral. VoicePlay contacted her to see if she would work with them for this. She agreed, Layne flew up to Nashville, recorded her part and flew back to Orlando just before Hurricane Ian ran over Florida. Elizabeth of The Charismatic Voice did the background vocals for the zippy ghosts at the end. The one they did just before this is In the Hall of the Mountain King which is also amazing. Layne was the Carrot King in that one. Geoff's solo is Ghost Riders in the Sky another blast from the past.

In the hall of the mountain king from Edvard Grieg's (late 1870's) "Peer Gynt Suite" is a completely orchestral piece Voiceplay recently did and knocked it out of the park. It is comparable, if not BETTER, than PTX's Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, which won them a Grammy for best a cappella arrangement. We NEED to find out how to nominate VP for that category for "Mountain King".

You guys are probably the only reactor that I don't slide the play bar over to the reaction and skip the intro. You're just flat out fun to watch. I've never been there, but lots of comments have been left to tell me that the set in this video is based on the Disney ride "The Haunted Mansion," and all the characters are some of the ones you'll see during the ride. Cesar is "Madame Leota," the head in the crystal ball - and the bit he starts out with ("Serpents and spiders, tail of a rat...") is part of her established dialogue. Eli is a character from "The Stretching Room," which is a hall of portraits that start out normal then stretch so you can see how they died. He's standing on a keg of dynamite and at the end of his first bit, he shouts "BOOM!" Lauren is made up as Constance Hatchaway, "The Bride," who killed five husbands. Layne is "The Hatbox Ghost," and the Disney Wiki I'm looking at has me a bit confused about his role. And Geoff is Silas Crump, the Caretaker (who is apparently one of the few "living" characters you'll see during the ride.)
@randiskye4444
@randiskye4444 Жыл бұрын
@Barbara Bishop Apparently, per (edit: Geoff, not-) Layne, the Hatbox Ghost was an original character which didn't play well to young audiences, so was mothballed for a while. The character has since been added back sporadically and/or repurposed within the park. You did a great rundown of the portrayed characters in this video, Kudos!!
@janetdw

@@randiskye4444 Info from a lot of Disney fans say that it did not perform well in the ride, mechanically. One reactor I watched, and of course I cannot remember who, said that when they were on the ride the ride broke down and they watched it go back-and-forth between the ghost and the hat box and it broke. Apparently it was a big problem mechanically and they just kind of gave up on it but it is supposed to be coming back to at least one of the parks.

you might also want to see "the Bass Gang" 's version of this song (also with Lauren) ... Another scapula group that t=you might find interesting and is completely different is Maytree (NOT SEEN) voice-over effect was Elizabeth Zharoff from (The Charismatic Voice) "Hide and Seek" is a song produced by Ho-ong-i, and performed by VOCALOID SeeU. (in Korean) the English version was done in 2014. Lauren Paley (known as the stairwell siren) has a version of this in the stairwell defiantly worth the listen (both full length and her Tick Toc version) if you have not heard her stuff done in the stairwell you are missing out.. it adds a naturally creepy effect the Voiceplay team is set in the haunted mansion ride characters.. behind geoff is the busts for the ghosts. So they set it into the haunted mansion. I still recommend listing to the full version of Lauren Paley in the stairwell (she is nicknamed the Stairwell Siren) . She has found the perfect stairwell for an outstanding natural echo effect ….. Eli is representing the portrait of Alexander Nitrokoff from the Stretching Room in the Haunted Mansion. The portrait itself is behind him. Haunted Mansion lore has it that Nitrokoff died under mysterious circumstances, as portrayed in his portrait. Geoff is the Caretaker (also known as the Gravedigger), one of the few living characters in the Haunted Mansion. Cesar is the ghostly medium, Madame Leota, Layne is the Hatbox Ghost (a ghost who was removed from the actual ride after its face-swapping illusion failed to work properly- Layne's illusion worked much better!) Lauren is the Bride In the Attic, a character who has undergone a number of changes over the years.

I watched Layne being made up with that skeleton face in the behind the scenes. Even watching that, I can't see him under the makeup. Rick Underwood does their makeup and he is amazing! Please, if you have time, react to their In the Hall of the Mountain King. Makeup and costumes are amazing, acapella version of an orchestral piece, and the silliest storyline you'll ever see. Prior to Covid, Voiceplay toured extensively, all over the world, cruises, you name it. Now that artists are touring again, VP is down one permanent member. They've done some private gigs. In fact, after they did We Don't Talk About Bruno, Disney had them come and do it live. There is a video out there, but it was recorded on someone's cell phone so the camera is too far away and the sound is bleh. Thanx for reacting to this, can't wait for the next one!

Loved your reaction. You found a LOT to say that was useful and interesting - even though technically you were just talking about all of the things they do right. That is really helpful in reactions too. I love VoicePlay, but I don't always know all of the technical reason why! Layne (percussion) arranged this, planned the video, flew to Nashville to film Lauren before Ian hit, and edited the video. Layne or Geoff do the preliminary sound edits for their projects before passing it to Ed Boyer, who does the final sound edit on everything VoicePlay and Geoff do. But when they talk about their "preliminary" edits, they get pretty deep in the weeds before they hand it off. And THAT is what I love about VP. Because they have full control of their productions they go places and do things that most labels would never agree to. We aren't just seeing a slick product targeted at pulling a particular audience. They produce art.

Being short one person would make a show difficult. J None is 1.5 yrs into a 5 yr stint. He came home on leave and took the lead role in Friends on the Other Side. I saw his VP goodbye party and he said he would be back. I don't know if that's what they are waiting for or being able to bring on new talent let's them do really different and interesting videos. What I've noticed is that they keep getting better with every production that they do. By the way, the premix is VP but the final mix is Ed Boyer, they say he's the best in the business. Layne and Tony Wakim (early baritone) bought another studio where much, but not all, of the VP and Geoff videos are produced. Tony didn't like touring and wanted to be on the production end and he's good at it. You can see Tony in Phantom of the Opera and also in Road Trip and The Full Chicken Song.

They do a lot of work with Disney, so they are constantly “in character” and mixing up groups. They’re kind of like studio band musicians who work in small and large ensemble groups that constantly shift members. If you watch Geoff’s video about his wife’s hearing, it gives a bit of background about how the group works. Very cool.

Great reaction. Been waiting for you to react to this. Geoff did Ghost Riders In The Sky on October 1st. The theme is Haunted Mansion at Disney World and Disneyland. They are characters in the mansion. Characters... Geoff - Graveyard Caretaker Silas Crump. Layne - Hatbox Ghost holding a hatbox for his head. Cesar - Madame Leota. Medium in a crystal ball. Lauren - Constance Hallaway/ Corpse Bride. Eli - Alexander Nitrokoff standing on a barrel of dynamite. Alexander's portrait is on the wall behind Eli.

All the characters are from the Haunted Mansion in Disney Park rides. Geoff is Silas Crump, the cemetery Caretaker; Layne is the Hatbox Ghost; Cesar is Madame Leota in the Crystal Ball; Eli is Alexander Nitrokoff (standing on a box of dynamite. Hence, his "Boom!") from the stretching room poster (on the wall behind him), and Lauren is Constance Hathaway, the Ghost Bride. Did you hear Eli say "hello" when they sing "Knock, knock! I'm inside your room now (Eli's Hello)"? It's very quick! Plus, Elizabeth Zharoff (The Charismatic Voice) lends her voice to the background scene with the many ghosts flying around.

Great reaction. Thanks for pointing out Geoff’s bass section. I always learn something new from favorite reactors. When I go back to listen again (and again and again), it adds something new for me to appreciate. This is the same set that is used in the PattyCake Productions piece Villains at the Haunted Mansion. The characters are from the ride. Lot of tiny details: -Lauren: her demented eyes turn red just before the banshee. She is semitransparent- you can see embers through her -Layne’s crazy makeup! A LOT if people had here and Geoff mixed up. lots of black food color in some sort of gel for his teeth. When he laughs, the inside of his mouth is black. -Grim Grinning Ghost busts appear in the bookshelf behind Geoff (who had to crouch the whole time) -Eli is unstable Alexander NITROkoff on a keg of TNT/nitroglycerin (BOOM!) (“stretching” portrait behind him) -Cesar is the medium Madam Leota at the seance table. Was he singing in his head voice?😂 -Elizabeth Zharoff (Charismatic Voice) provided background eerie tones. By the way, they had another Halloween piece planned that Geoff was arranging but the artist couldn’t make it. So Layne jumped in even though he had just finished Hall of the Mountain King. It must’ve been pretty hectic since they usually trade off so that they have a little bit of leadtime as well as a breather. Then he had to do it with a hurricane attacking them. He flew to Nashville to film Lauren and flew back just in time to batten down the hatches for the hurricane. And while he was supposed to be editing, his power went out for some time. They must take special vitamins or something. I just don’t know how they do it.

I’ve never been to the Haunted Mansion, but as I understand it, Eli’s character is actually standing on a barrel of dynamite-so at the end of his first solo, he yells BOOM! And laughs. I’m betting it’s fun living in Layne’s house-he probably does exactly what you’re talking about. Strange noises all the time. You know, the stuff little boys do that drives parents nuts. I’m glad you noticed Geoff’s bass line-it takes some real vocal agility. And that end note with the Hurry Backs is a C#1. Great reaction, guys! I so enjoy how you two break down the elements of a song (even when you're blown away) -- I always learn something. Thank you! (Edit: I haven't seen the Dream On reaction you mentioned, and I can't find it. Did it get blocked?)

If you thought this version of the song was good, go watch “The Bass Gang”’s version they just released. They’re another full A Capella group of 4 basses, and their version of this song is the most mind boggling thing I’ve ever heard. Trust me

THey toured until Covid. Then they had to stop. They want to your again but can't right now. They do have a bunch of live videos from their tours and when they were on the Sing Off in 2014 with Home Free. My favorites are... Road Trip. The Chicken Song. Those 2 are hilarious. Also Hillbillies vs Zombies Home Free vs Voiceplay Survivor.

Lauren Paley (aka the Stairway Siren) has also joined in on the Bass Gang's version of this song. Very different interpretation but just as incredible. Definitely check it out. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m9dhg86DtLG-e2g.html
