Room Resonance Nodes and Modes are the set of resonances that exist in a room when the room is excited by an acoustic source such as a loudspeaker. Most rooms have their own fundamental resonances in the region of 20Hz to 200Hz, each frequency being related to one or more room dimensions or its divider.
These resonances affect the low to mid-low frequency response of an audio system in the room and are one of the biggest obstacles to accurate sound reproduction.
If you are building a room, you can choose room sizes for which its resonances are less audible.
This is done by making sure that the multiple room resonances are not at similar frequencies. For example, a cubic room would show three resonances at the same frequency.
Equalizing the sound system to compensate for uneven frequency response caused by room resonances is of very limited use as the equalization only works for a specific listening position and will actually cause the response to deteriorate in other listening positions. Even large bass boosts via sound system equalization can greatly reduce headroom in the sound system itself.
