It's always fun to re-listen to albums you think you know, after you've made changes to your system (especially speakers). I'm using a REL S/510 in a relatively small room, but even though it's located literally to the immediate right of my listening position, you never hear it as a separate sound source. Well done, Andrew!

The best thing about going with a stereo is being able to control the bass of each individual stereo speaker, which btw is perfect for those whose stereo speakers don't happen to have equal distance to their side walls! But for me personally, that's only half of it. The fact that my two channels also entails an Atmos setup, not only I'm able to run the stand mounts full range (Sonettos) but the fact that I'm utilising the .1 LFE connection, too. I'm able to toggle for movies to 2-channel music (or vice versa) and not have to alter the bass.

So glad that you are pleased with your upgrade. I live in a top floor apartment so I'm not sure my fellow residents would appreciate me incorporating a sub woofer into my system. I have however upgraded to a surround system that I am very pleased with, all hooked up to my turntable and my BrennanJB7 system, and I am very pleased with the results, especially when I play the Red album, those mixes sound even more fantastic, like yourself I'm now going to have to listen to every album and CD that I own. I can imagine that the new release of Band on the run is gonna sound mighty fine through those new speakers of yours...

I almost bought the t zero mk3 for my B&w 707 s2. Only thing that put me off is I use my system for movies and ended up getting really good deal with the rel 1205. My brother had the t7x and now t9x with his 703 s2, 707 s2 surrounds, can't remember the centre channel B&w and finally 2 pairs of svs prime elevation for Atmos

Great review. I have the same combo, Monitor Audio Silver 100s 6 Gen with the same subwoofer hooked to a Peachtree Nova 150, Denon 62L Turntable, and a Marantz ND 8006 CD/ Network player. I totally agree with your assessment . Just like you, I was skeptical about adding a subwoofer but decided to give it a try since is a small unit and by ordering online you have a month trial period. once it was hooked I started to hear or feel stuff I never heard before. So far and very pleased with the outcomes, especially Jazz recordings were sometimes you can barely hear the bass of great musicians like Ron Carter. Even streaming sounds fuller and not overbearing. Thanks for the review and enjoy!

Had to laugh when you pulled out the jurassic park cd! I always associated the T-Rex roar rather than the intro music as the bass reference. Great update and impressed with your woofer upgrade. I have one on my TV surround 7.1 system, makes KZfaq sound so much better. Not on my Cd player though as that's in another room. I've got mission speakers but I get a good sound from them.

Just setup the T0 with a pair of Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 bookshelf speakers. It’s startling how the T0 completely transformed the entire room! It’s as if I have a new and bigger pair of speakers. There is also significant more detail in the high notes.

I have a REL T/7x sub woofer, fantastic. It completely underpins the whole sound stage at the low end. Very subtle, I didn’t get it at first but after about 5 on/offs for comparison during the demo it clicked. As you say you don’t hear it you feel it. I’ve also got their transmitter which negates the need for long expensive cables across the room. As for speaker grills here’s my hard and fast rules: 1) if playing music they must be OFF, put them on and off while listening and you’ll be amazed at the difference 2) if not currently playing music then it doesn’t matter (my preference is off) 3) if you or anybody else is hoovering or you’ve got a horde of wild toddlers running all over the shop then ON ON ON

Most subwoofers would be dual mono rather than stereo As you've mentioned your subwoofer is placed behind you and that's the benefit of NOT having subwoofers built into your mains, you can place them independent of the mains for better performance.

That is a good speakersystem you've got there😊 A sub, IS a gamechanger, in just about every system. Even the big ones. Optimal placement for bass, and for the rest of the frequensies, are rarly the same place, so it will almost always make sense to have a sub where the bass is best. It also frees up both the amp and mains, making it easier to controll the rest of the sound. 2 subs, are generally better than one, but, you have to be carefull. It is much harder to set up (not too hard, but it is best to do some research, and know what to do, before you buy). If set up correctly, 2 subs will fill the room much better, but if setup incorectly, they will cancel oneanother at some frequensies, and boost others (this is not nice🙊) The biggest benefit from 2 subs, is more even bass in bigger parts of the room. Challenge is to set it up correctly. So....long comment🙊 Things to concider: Do you have more than one listening position? If not, there is not really much benefit from more subs. Do you feel like you lack bass, or the sub strugles? Then one more sub, will give you 3-6db boost, and might be a good idéa (I have a feeling this is not the case here🤪). Lastly, you can get stereo sub setup, one for each speaker, but that is hardly any benefit. The Silver 100's dig deep enough, and if they are similar too Bronze 100's (which I have in my hybrid cinema/ music room), they absolutly does not lack punch. 🙊 I have 3 subs, but also have a MiniDSP to timealign and syncronize all the subs and the system (a MiniDSP, is another gamehanger when one have more than one sub). For a pure music setup, I would sugest, to stay with one sub. More is not always better 😊 Roomtreatment/ acoustics, would probably give you more improvment (if you do not have it, can't see in the video). Wish you a great day 😊

Thanks for the advice! I do have just 1 listening position in this room. I certainly won't buy a second sub without trying it first, so if I get chance I would demo one first and see if it can produce a benefit, no point if it can't! 👍

Take the grills off when listening. The choice is yours (If your speakers are within reach of pets or small children and you want to avoid scratches, dents, and poked-in cones, your decision is a no-brainer: Grilles on.) On the other hand, removing grilles can enhance aesthetics and in some cases, improve sound quality and dispersion.

Yep, It’s NOT just about MORE BASS ! ! A Sub removes all the Bass ’Load’ from the Main Speakers. U therefore hear much more of the details in the Mid’s. ( Female Vocals / Acoustic Instruments ) … the 100’s already have a very Large Mid / Bass Driver. I get using these ‘On Their Own’ for ‘More Bass’… However, I must admit, in your smallish room, As U went for a Sub too, I think the Silver 50’s would have been adequate. I think those 100’s just look Toooo Large for your room. But, hey, It’s your room and Money and … your “Ears’’ …. Enjoy. Any plans to ‘Upgrade’ your Amp / Streamer / DAC ? The Amp ’Deal’ rite now is the Rega Brio ( 500 Notes ) Yep, it has a ( Very Good ) built in Phono Stage …. Will U be adding sum Acoustic ‘Panels’ on the Side Walls next to the Speakers ! ? Oh and BTW, Good Choice of Sub. I use one in my 2nd ( All Analogue ) System with a pair of ATC SCM 11’s ... WoW ... Is yours connected directly to the Amps Speaker Terminals ? Happy Listening ….

Even though I've experienced a stereo pair of t5i's for the last couple of years, I have to say one of the biggest upgrades within my small 4 x 3.5 m (13 x 11.5 ft) room was getting the couch off the back wall. The surprise is how little bass is actually produced in room from speakers. While the manufacturer states say -3db at 45hz it could be -12db when setup away from walls in the best listening position. Thats where even a small sub placed in the corner (+9db room gain) can balance out the bass. And let's be honest, we all like a little extra bass.
