TL/DR - I think they are fun... sometimes. I totally understand why this headphone is really popular with some people, while others hate it. For a lot of tracks these sound "stuffy" to me. But where I love them is playing movies and games, and some acoustic guitar tracks sound really nice and warm. I don't think it lacks detail - sometimes. But it's not very consistent. They are fun to listen to, in certain cases. They have a great price, but I couldn't recommend them to just anyone. I think bassheads would like it, but not all of them. The bass is fun a lot of times, but can be overwhelming at others. The strange thing is that I really kind of like these and I can't exactly describe why. They are weird but I have fun listening to them if I'm patient and find the right tracks. Bluesy country rock acoustic music can be really really enjoyable with these - but, again, only sometimes. Check them out while they are cheap and you might actually like them. I find they can surprise me.

I agree; personally, I really like them too. They were on sale for 70 USD, and at that price they are a steal. I have two other studio headphones to compare them to: Beyrdynamic DT 1990 and Hifiman Arya Stealth. Both of those headphones are a lot more clear and refined in the mids, but the HE-R9's still sound great and shine on certain tracks. The R9s have more present bass than both the other headphones, which is great for dubstep and other subby music. As a music producer, I will still use these headphones as a reference, as they produce so much more bass than the other two. Worth trying IMO!

I mod the R9 and from users the JM Audio V8 of the R9 is superior to stock- many reviews out there of the JM Audio Mod - but great review thank you

how is the sounds transmited to the other can, I do not see any wires going from one Can to the other.

That is actually a very good question. I had to take another look, and like the Deva pro, there is a tiny groove on the inside of the headband and yoke with a wire in it.

I think this headphone might be discontinued soon? The deva pro is allready out.. hoping for a new deva here. An all black one preferably. Have you heard any rumours? I heard this one a year ago, wasnt impressed with the sound. Listened to the meze 99 classic this morning. Soundwise the meze was better than the r9, but deva pro is better. The 99 is pretty, but the earcups were too shallow (these were the deeper cups) and the headband made noise every time I moved my head. My deva pro needed new cups and a new headband, due to wear 😂 bought a 700 pro x, after two hours I am already impressed price/performance. But going to use my deva till the deva pro gets back, I just keep getting the wire caught on everything I pass 😂 The 700 will go to my home studio. The sundara closed back isn't wireless sadly.

Would you take the 700 over the meze 99 and the R9 in terms of sound quality?

@@ExplainedExplanation yes and I did. The meze did soun good but made side noises every time I moved my head. I do have short hair but this was excessive. the r9 sounded like sh. So now I have the 700 for studio and I have the Deva pro for Bluetooth listening. In fact I bought 3 Deva pro now that they are not being produced anymore. At very nice prices for the last two I bought 😁

@@annebokma4637 Thank you for your reply. Good to know. I just thought the R9 was worth considering given that it’s selling for nearly $100 only at the moment.

@@ExplainedExplanation I would buy it at 50, if it includes the rrr dac module. They do work with my Deva and cost 60 🤣 the headphone itself is a hard pass, sounded very bloated.
