What a lovely surprise to find this video while researching the piece. The orchestra sounds great, very accomplished ensemble playing - bravi solisti.

I loved the bass clarinet, trombones, and timpani in this. I had to come back and amend my comment to include all of the percussion. That was great!

Never heard of Higdon until today May 17, 2020 after listening to Sirius XM. Love this piece, especially the ending starting @36:53, and with the buildup @37:26 to my man ending on ROCKING the timpani! WOW!!!

Here is another example of a well crafted piece that never quite reaches the lofty heights of greatness. The product of genius is rare indeed. When you compose a concerto for orchestra you are always competing with Bartok whose opus will be played for centuries while most others will fade into the dark recesses of history.
