High Glasses Prescription? Choose Hi-Index for thinner and lighter lenses!

Minus lenses are thickest at the edges. Choosing a higher index will certainly make them thinner yes, but so does choosing a smaller frame. The smaller the frame you can live with, the more edge thickness we will grind off. Also, the more centered your eyes are in the frame, the better, as there won't be extra thickness in the direction furthest from the eyes. Sincerely, an optometrist from Denmark.

This is what I have found too. The distortion becomes too much around the edges with larger frames. Also, I heard more round frames are better as the more square the thicker the edges are

But, the smaller the lens - and therefore frame - for progressives wearers, the more difficult it is to differentiate between the varying fields of vision. Sincerely, A Progressives Wearer

So are small glasses better ? Because I just bought my glasses with power -5.25 I didn't know they would look so big on me and also a little wierd 😢

@@LanguidAndBittersweet not necessarily, an average progressive lens has a "corridor length" of 16-18 mm, i.e. distance from distance power to full reading power... So any lens with around 18-20 mm from the pupil centre to the bottom of the frame will have adequate space

And what prescription are you using in your glasses? The 2nd one really is amazing compared to first one as it reduces distoriton by almost 90%

And avoid metal frames. Plastic frame is thicker and hides the thickness of the lens. Smaller plastic frame with high index

Avoid what? The high index is going to have a warped look even if it's a small frame. Mines like 1.54 something like that. The sides barely show. But is what it is. I can't escape it. I do have contacts tho for the most part. Just got a new pair of glasses. I was kinda shocked the way I looked 😂. I'll still wear them tho

@@glitchinthematrix7401 Sadly no. The lense will be thinner with high index. But as far as the way the light bends, it will be the same.

When you say “high prescription” are you referring to sphere or cylinder power? My sphere number is low but my cylinder is around 4 ish.

That's considered a high astigmatism prescription. Mine a - 3.75 cyl. Zenni considers that a high prescription so they charged me an additional $10 fee. Still very cheap glasses tho.

The higher the number, the thinner the lense. The number is referencing the material's ability to bend light. The more bending it does, the thinner you get to make it compared to lower index lenses. E.g. 1.61 is going to be thicker than 1.71

Going from thickest to thinnest, the indexes are called 1.5, 1.6, 1.67 and 1.74.

Is it okay to wear high prescription glass for only one eye and low prescription in other? I am currently wearing a + prescription glass for one eye and - for the other

They are usually sold as pairs. Whynwould tou want polycarbonate and a 1.74 lens in the other eye.

@@curlyhairdudeify that isn't the way it works, most of the time both eyes don't have the same prescription, therefore one needs more correction than the other, causing the lens to become thicker on one rather than both, when processing glasses we have the option to do split lenses in order to make the thickness of both lenses similar to one another to promote weight distribution. Also, polycarbonate lenses and high index have nothing to do with his comment, he was asking if it was okay to have a different prescription in either lens.

Small frames but whatever you do, do NOT choose small frames with transition lenses. They don't look good. Only choose transition lenses with frames that would look good as sunglasses.

20/20 doesn't mean you have perfect vision. I passed 20/20 chart exams but when they looked my eyes through a computerized checker they found i have mild astigmatism. That explain streak of lights when im driving at night. I just had my glasses and it felt so good when driving (plus anti glare and more contrast through the lens)

Hey, can you suggest me some good frames for -11 prescription? And is 1.67 enough or 1.74 is necessary? My current one has 1.74 with rectangle frame but theres too much distortion in corner so no actual benefit
