I just adore these videos, as there's nothing like hearing passionate experts talking through their collection. It's very satisfying to see the object up close and being turned over so that we can appreciate the real life flow of an object's lines which still photography cannot quite capture. I did not realize how sturdy and, well, blunt, the flanges of these maces were meant to be. Even so, this design clearly concentrates a lot of force into the corner, if you will, of the flange. You noted an architectural styling to some components of this mace, and I think that may apply to the flanges themselves, which recall, in my mind, the shape of flying buttresses. Their trefoil cutouts similarly give me the impression of the ornamentation seen in cathedrals. By the way, will you guys be talking about your Viking era swords some time soon? I very much enjoyed your feature on "Real Viking Swords" and would like to hear more about your company's pieces and the originals (perhaps also the martial and historical context in which they were designed and used).
