Club fittings for these higher handicap players are so much more satisfying to watch than for the low handicap players. I love how much these guys can help someone by fitting them into better fitting equipment.

Arin S I agree. It’s nice to see them showing fittings for variety of clubs and how another commenter mentioned that it makes improvements. Improvements = shaving strokes. A lot of viewers that come on KZfaq should come watch this and learn that fitting a lone can help their game and how too much “how to swing videos” can actually do a lot of harm. This is how work smarter, not harder can really apply to people’s game! Glad that I stumbled upon this channel. Subscribe!

Another aspect of fitting that rarely gets looked at. Since most of our shots are close to the green, this merits more scrutinization than we normally give it. The effort put in to the mat is also a novel thing. Excellent on all counts, gents!

I love your videos! This is my favorite of the 100's of yours that I've watched. Because you did the fitting with an average player, it was fascinating to watch your expertise. I have been fitted for clubs, but it was nowhere as precise and well done as this. I love the game and would sure love to experience something as precise as this fitting. Having the correct tools in your hand as a golfer is so important, yet it is so unavailable to most of us. A usual fitting is so limited in time and expertise (such as yours) that we leave the fitting in no better shape than when we enter. Such a pleasure to watch your expertise and help.

Harz77 not really. But I do play them a little back of center to make sure I don’t thin it. Not as great of spin as my old vokeys. Another issue I have is not being able to open the face for bunkers and really short shots around the green. I actually went back to SM7 58* but kept the other CBX as a pitching wedge.

I am going to go out on a limb and predict that this channel will have over one million subscribers in the near future! @@MichealBacon it’s all subjective. Rick is super gimmicky now a days. His old content on the other hand was golf gold! No longer is it content I’m interested in so for me this content is 150% more useful. People see entertainment as a higher value than info style vids. To each their own, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I do however find Marks content solid.

I went online to SCOR golf to get my wedges -- they made sure there was a 5 degree gap between each of the wedges, as well as to my highest loft iron (it's a 9). When I contacted SCOR they asked what my set makeup was so that they could get the shaft and lie of the wedges as close as possible to my irons (Adams new Idea). Great video again.

I understand that the average viewer is around an average golfer so I get why they want to see more videos of the average golfer's fitting etc., but I feel as though you guys can create the same video (wedge, driver, fairway metal fitting etc.) with Matt because it will showcase the similarities and differences between the two groups (average and low single digit handicap) and it would also make the videos more interesting for those golfers like me who are low single digit handicaps and have never been fitted for clubs and want to see the benefits (if any) of getting fit when you're already "good".

Blows my mind just how many improvements can be made to high hcp players through fitting alone. Question: for single digit handicappers, is it better/more beneficial to have a variety of bounces and grinds through their wedge set?
@clubchampionmedia
@clubchampionmedia 6 жыл бұрын
Depends on the type of shots you hit with each wedge - do you hit full shots with it, chip, pitch, bunker, etc. Those factors will have a lot to do with what your grind and bounce setup looks like across your wedges.

Kudos... you guys are by far the most scientific, fact based dudes fitting clubs on line. Trying 15 different mat combinations to emulate fairway “firmness” deserves a hat tip. I bet you are working on tight lie and very wet condition mat to emulate the extremes for guys that want wedges adapted to their common local playing conditions! Science!

Wish my fitter had taken the time to replicate the grass like you Ian, he fitted me on a very tight weave of indoor mat for Edel wedges and on the course they behave very differently, a very expensive £600 (3 wedges) mistake. They now sit in the garage while I use Glide 3.0 which were fitted by A N Other. Great work fellas, put a fiver on Sam to be 12 by the end of next year for me! I’m good for it!

Good to see this and very interesting. Also really good to hear about you folks customizing the mat to be like outside as exactly I found that after a wedge fitting inside they were not so good for me on the course and indeed I ended up replacing the clubs completely. As I have srixon irons with a customised after market shaft, I decided to go with the RTX 3s for my wedges but with the same graphite shafts as my irons. Being left handed srixon did not have a gap wedge available so cleveland was the way to go. Suffice to say as they feel like the same set - relatively speaking - they feel a comfortable continuity. Indeed the gap wedge is probably now my favourite and most reliable club aside from my putter. Just to add that it is great you asked the question of what do you chip with as I use the 9 or pitching wedge not the higher lofted 56 (sand) and 60 (rough and behind bunkers onto green) wedges I have. Though I rarely now use these two clubs. Just as an aside bounce availability for left was much less as options in left handed. As you indicated also good you did the full set with a specific individual. It would be good to see what further corrections or tweaks were made after Sam was fitted with each group not only gapping wise but also feel wise. And a putter session?

Great videos guys. In the interest of appropriate fitting I never see the fit and function of the great number of grips and grip sizes. The grip technology, seems to me, to be advancing as quickly as every other facet of the game, yet I've not seen any of my favorite channels cover it. I use Gripmaster leather on a couple of my sets but have recently been courting oversize Dri-Tacs. The lack of coverage surprises me because this is essentially where the rubber meets the road, is it not. Thanks very much for all your help. TJ

Well, you've narrowed my choice for a club fitting down to TXG. A few months ago I was willing to drive to the Hamilton area to get fit at a big box store, just to have one particular individual conduct the fitting. Now I'm hearing this individual 'may have' joined your staff. It's just comforting to know the skill level of the fitter, rather than be somewhat in doubt. Any extra cost in the travel and the fitting would be worthwhile. I'd just feel secure in the knowledge that I have the best clubs for me, rather than wonder if I do, particularly when projected over the hundreds of rounds I'll play in the foreseeable future.

Holy crap, I think I might wanna make my own DIY "fitting board" to have something better to hit off at my local range! Really interesting comment you made about the firmness of the mat not allowing for the proper contact point. I've definitely noticed that before at the range and end up compensating by getting way steeper than I need to with the wedges, particularly with partial shots.

Yet another awesome video episode from the High Hcper Series.I knew that bounce impacts strike point, but this fitting example showed very clearly what type of benefits one can get from getting into the correct bounce/head profile. I feel that a key point was glossed over a bit - the fact that a cavity back wedge is probably a better fit for mid-high hcpers vs. the classic blade. Cleveland is making more of a marketing push on that with their CBX wedges - not sure that many people are aware that the Ping Glide is also a cavity back. Question: For average golfers (15hcp and up), in fittings, do you generally see them getting more benefits from a cavity back style wedge vs. popular blades? Are the spin characteristics similar in both styles or does one get more spin from blades (I believe that is another misconception, but i have no data to support it)? Love this channel and what you guys do for the golfing public. Hands down, TXG is the best. Keep 'em coming!
@clubchampionmedia
@clubchampionmedia 6 жыл бұрын
Good question Anthony. The cavity back wedges offer more forgiveness, and a bit more ball speed compared to the blade style so they tend to mesh in better with modern iron designs. Shouldn't see any difference in spin characteristics though.

So how much did Sam improve throughout the season? With the upgrades he's had through the bag in all of these fittings, I wouldn't be surprised if he's playing off a 15-17 now. Please bring Sam back in for an off-season recalibration session!

You guys need to get a mobile fitting bus and come down to the US. I would easily pay $$$ for the quality your provide.

What are the major differences you’ll see in shaft differences for wedges? You talked a lot about lie angle, loft, and bounce, but there are many options for shafts available.

Depends on the player. For Sam, the stock Ping shaft worked nicely and suited his swing but for a high swing speed player, a stiffer shaft profile would likely be required to suit the way that player loads the shaft.

I am Sam. I might hit the ball farther, but I'm inconsistent and push the ball right. Going for a fitting in a few weeks.

I love your content, and I just came to realize that wedges are probably the most important part of my game. So much so that I went from 2 to 4. I now have shots for 80 yards up to 125 before going into my normal irons. I cannot stress enough how important wedges are. This will be my forth year playing and I'm hoping to break 90 this summer.

Thanks Sam. Pointed out during the video was the number of comments of related to yes that's me. Be interesting to know the demographics in relationship to access to trusted quality experienced fitters in their areas. Custom fit is used to broadly in my opinion and what defines a fitter from a snake oil salesman. Going to be an interesting journey watching TXG in the Canadian golf market. While 'the igloo' is funny/clever, we have enough problems with people thinking all of Canada is part of the Arctic...😆😆
