In Texas' Big Bend country, a young drifter is caught stealing food at the Davis ranch. The Davis clan and the hired hands are immediately suspicious of the young runaway. They nickname him Cooncat. They all suspect Cooncat of running from the law for some crime he committed but he claims to have only run-away from an abusive father who beat him. Nevertheless, the ranch hired hands rough him up until he admits he has committed a murder.

VERY good old black n white Western that I spent my childhood growing up watching on TV on Saturdays n Sundays in Detroit, Michigan!!! The ending turned out GREAT!!!

Jack Elam, the baddie, appeared in lots of movies, mostly Westerns, not always the bad guy. I liked this movie too

This movie is guilty of typecasting characters. Just the kind of people you would expect to meet in big Bend country South Texas. It’s very entertaining. Haven’t seen it all yet but I am hooked!

Good, really enjoyed it. Keeps your attention. Liked the real outdoors scenes, ranch scenes. Liked the actors especially the old man and the ranch women. Thanks for sharing.

Yes! Back in 1950 there were more cattle ranches around Marfa, TX then! It’s now an arts type community.

Uh oh. I remember that I’ve watched this movie twice before. Now that I’ve gotten my first glimpse of the actor John Barrymore Jr., I recognize what movie it is. However, it was a few years ago so I’m going to watch it again. I like the actors and I especially like John Barrymore Jr. I wish I could find more movies starring him. Jack Elam was one of favorite actors. I especially admire his faithfulness to his first wife until she died. Then after he remarried he stayed married to her until he died. He must have been a very special man and probably some of the reason of his successful marriages was probably because both of his wives were special women.
