At the end of this campaign Quill is most likely the physically scarred member of the group like I believe he has done so MANY constitution saving throws that at this point he should be proficient in CON saves by default

He's definitely failed the most. Lucius by contrast has gone down in combat A LOT but barring the Dragon Turtle incident he has succeed on so many of those injury saves.

22:50 - If anyone needs the rules for things like disarming and shoving, they're in the DMG on page 271-272. Bear in mind that they _are_ called "Action _Options",_ so it's the DM's choice whether or not to use them in the game. The difference between the regular disarm and the Disarm maneuver is that the maneuver also deals damage to the target where the standard disarm only causes the target to drop what it was holding. Disarming is also generally seen by powergamers and min-maxers as sort of a waste of an action (unless they're holding a fragile object you're trying to break, or for RP reasons, or you have an ally ready to pick it up, etc.) since the target can just use their free Interact With An Object action on their next turn to pick it back up.

Both shove and disarm are situationally useful. If a disarmed opponent can pick up their weapon on their turn with a free action, so can you. You could just kick it away or pick it up in your off-hand, making them either waste their turn trying to get it back from you, or take an attack of opportunity (or several, if you have friendlies in melee), or have to scramble for something else to do. Shove IMO is only occasionally useful if you want to push someone off a cliff/into a portal, or when your DM doesn't allow the flanking optional rule and you want to grant advantage on multiple melee attacks when you have friendlies beside you.

I wonder if Mark decided not to use this option, simply because it would very quickly turn it from a scary encounter to a quick beat-down. Granted, the disarm-er would probably get disadvantage since the sword and bow are two-handed, but between Aila and Sentry they'd get the weapons free soon enough.

For clarification the temple doesn’t have to be 120ft on every side. It’s up to 120ft pre side but it can be smaller and more manageable since that’s a large unoccupied area to have. But it’s an awesome spell. My twilight cleric has his very own temple to his goddess Selune in his world.

180 feet per round is actually surprisingly *slow* for a horse, especially a supernatural one. That comes out to 30 feet per second, which is only 20mph. A galloping horse on Earth tops out at 40mph. Of course, those are horses in peak condition, and they can't sustain that sort of speed for more than a mile or two. But I feel like I'd expect supernatural ghostly wraith horses to be capable of more than a regular corporeal horse, so 40mph feels like sort of the minimum.

oh man this has been a scary fight. Loved the crazy temple idea and the down-to-the-wire timing. And that nat 20 crit! Sentry is really out there saving them all this round. Quill would have absolutely failed that con save without her (im guessing it was a 16 dc, maybe a 15) and there is no coming back from a lost head. not when Quill has already been rezed once before. I often just let combat parts play in the background when i listen to dnd podcasts but Mark always manages to grab my attention with his fights. Great episode and crazy combat!

think thats nasty i have a ranger/paladin with vow of emnity and a Vorpal Scimitar... Vow is a BA to gain advantage on all attacks for 1 minute and a nat 20 head goes ba bye, with 2 attacks a round each thats 4 chances for a natty 20 per round! Yikes - now Haste me!

I wonder if Mark realized at any point that he could have used the riders legendary resistance to get into the temple. That was the first think that popped into my head.

Only if he used it the first time. Cos once you fail once you can't get in for 24 hours (so can't make more saves)

So because I am insane, I looked up how many rounds 24 hours of combat would be in DnD 5e. If we go with the established, 1 round is approx. 6 seconds: 10 rounds = 1 minute 100 rounds = 10 minutes 600 rounds = 1 hour 3,600 rounds = 6 hours 7,200 rounds = 12 hours 14,400 rounds = 24 hours

I love yalls show and i completely understand its all about haveing fun but it got me really irritated when last session rosemedow helped slow the curse then this session its like it didnt happen also the spider lady said last session she could teleport the team to the lake where they met the other centars... Just out of curiosity, when the vorpal weapon connected with a 20 on quill, shouldn't it have beheaded him? Vorpal weapons don't get a save of any kind unless Mark has changed something with how they function.

If it's the creature I think it is (a dullahan), or similar to that one, it's not an actual vorpal sword magic item, but something that has a chance to behead a creature if they fail that con save.

Adding a save was pretty smart, a single lucky roll killing a full-health 16 lvl player is pretty rough. Though that crit should've done over 100 damage instead of like 35 it dealt, but they forgot a bunch of rules this fight :D

I definitely wouldn't put it past her but even Mark's description signified it was just a Simulacrum (illusion crafted of snow; half health and unable to restore spell slots or heal without Mending). They talk about it near the end here not to mention how they encountered two flanking Xarkira when they rescued Valla from the Tassadar. Unless you were just speaking in general. Just be aware Clone is a high level spell and clones don't act independently.

Shouldn't the first attack on Quill when he first exited the temple been a straight roll? The attack had advantage since they were invisible and Sentry imposed disadvantage. The natural 20 should have stood since it was the first roll.

I think it has to do with their legendary ability Headhunt/Heartseeker. As I understand it, it cancels any (or at least most) detrimental conditions and always rolls with advantage. Could be wrong though, I don't remember if Mark had those abilities be canceled out to a straight roll previously.

Spoilers: They should have buffed the ever living hell out off the hunters charisma save. Maybe even nerfed quills save dc. They needed the hunter to make that save for the plan to work.

I think the plan worked either way, but Mark could've just used 2 legendary resistances to automatically make the saves. I think having the software crash really put him off tracks and he definitely didn't play the combat optimally

Spoilers: Qillek should have died then and there, outside of if Sentry would have used her Protection fighting style. There is no Con save for Vorpal Sword. Also, Globe of Invulnerability can be dispelled using Dispel Magic. Otherwise, it makes the caster immune to Counterspell.

It seems more like it's a creature based off a Dullahan, which has an ability similar to a Vorpal Sword on its attacks, but with a con save attached to it, rather than an honest to goodness vorpal longsword. If it were a real vorpal sword, it would have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls, and deal a bunch of extra slashing damage, rather than only necrotic damage. Even if it is a real vorpal sword that the players get after the fight, the hunter wouldn't get any bonuses from it if it simply wasn't attuned to it because it was far too insane to think to sit for an hour with and do such a thing.

@@Pancakeli It looked to me more like an on-the-fly adjustment of the Vorpal sword into a non-Vorpal sword for the sake of keeping Qillek alive. Which is fine if that's the case, it's their game.

@@calunsagrenejr considering every other ability it had was exactly the same as a Dullahan, bonus necrotic damage and everything, it's much more likely that it was a Dullahan that used a longsword instead of a battleaxe. The attacks had none of the bonuses that a vorpal sword would've had, so it wouldn't have the decapitation effect it has either. You're just trying to discredit the group for little reason. That's just uncool.

@@calunsagrenejr Mark said that there would be a save in the previous fight, where he didn't even get to land a crit. It definitely looks like reskinned Dullahan, but that crit should've done 100+ damage with their rules of max damage + dice rolls
