I was born in 78....so I was just a kid in the 1980s but I loved it.... as a kid in elementary school the first time I had to date one of my assignments with the year "1990"....I paused and just stared at it for a few moments....I knew then there that the end of a special time was over and gone forever and I felt sad because I knew the world would never be the same again....I thought the 80s would last forever and it was that moment I realized it wouldn't last forever and that it was infact gone for good.

It was a glorious time to be in HS. Kids talked and exchanged greetings instead of looking down at their cell phones. We were not afraid to be teenagers and you gradually learned that you were not the center of the universe. Mom and dad were not there to clean up all of your messes and make it all better. Every other word was not F this or Fing that. Use profanity all the time and it loses any meaning or emphasis.

The ironic thing was that there were students in the 1980s complaining that it wasn't like their parents' time... the 1950s/early '60s with stuff such as sock hops. Just enjoy what you make of the moment, look back and treasure what's fondly, and then inspire everything to make a new goal. Each era has its pros and cons, and you just have to live with the good and the bad.

My high school years spanned fall of 1986 to June of 1990. Those were some interesting times to say the least. I was involved in the annual musical production and the chorus, and I thoroughly enjoyed that. I absolutely loathed being teased and ostracized by classmates and being a target for bullies. That crap I don't miss at all! My senior prom date turning me down at the 11th hour because her first choice for a prom date was back on also bothered me. So high school was a mixed bag for me -- some awesome memories, and some I'd rather forget! An added bonus was the fact that heavy metal bands were exploding all over top 40 radio, which was way cool! You could tune into any random FM rock and top 40 station and hear bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Warrant, Ratt, Whitesnake, Great White, Guns N' Roses, Skid Row, etc. So at least it could be said the 80's had an awesome soundtrack! That definitely helped me get through some of the rough times of those 4 years. Even if my social life sucked, I could always count on a rocking tune on the radio to lift my spirits!

@Lava91point0 2 жыл бұрын
Well everyone wants to believe that the 80's was THE perfect decade, but we'd be lying if we said like any other time in school, you had your assholes and bullies back then too. You had crime, politics, sex and drugs, marriage, taxes and death, but to try and pinpoint what it is exactly that people really clammer for from the 80's. I think, it was the intention, the goal as it were, to create real happiness in life and to always look forward and be excited about what's next, what "new thing" was gonna make life better. I hate to say this cause I don't wanna believe it, but I think we've reached the pinnacle of whatever the hell can make for a better society. In fact I think we're beginning to wilt and quickly, simply because we hit the ceiling, with technology, health care, food and drink, hair and beauty, television, music and film, media as a whole. (At least in most of the world). And we've become so bored and complacent, we find fulfillment from the most ridiculous and mundane things, like video games, porn, and reaction videos. T.V and advertising has gone out the window, now that everyone watches everything online, even Cinema is nowhere near what it was twenty years ago. Without realizing it, technology is one thing we've allowed to take over a huge chunk our lives, and it's not good. I sometimes envy people who say they don't use facebook, like my god, I wish I could detox from it all. But, I also Think with the decline will be opportunity to come back around, forgive the manic depressive rant lol I probably sound like one, but yeah everything gets a return.

If you were good looking and had a very outgoing personality and made friends easy then high school was probably a very fun place for you it's like a party everyday for you and when you turn 18 the party moves to college. High school 1982-1986. Great times which still live on in today's culture. We were at the crossroads of the Space Shuttle, cable TV, and the early internet. I remember the big deal was that MTV came to our school to film a music video for a local artist who was starting to make some noise, Patsy Torres. Our auditorium was playing the part of a concert venue and me and something like 150 of my friends got to be "the concert crowd". We would see the video and always say "That's me" as we looked at the silhouetted back of someone's head. Great times!

In most ways it was better. But today is 1000x better if you need someone to talk to (danger is the rabbit hole of self wallowing so that IS worse). But 100% better is if you wanted a hobby but couldnt afford it you can at least absorb all the info you can on the net. Too bad young people don't understand how GREAT that is. Instead they wallow, pretend they're 100 different genders, FOMO on socials, complain... some shoot their peers. Hobbies would solve most teen depression today. God if only I had the net to indulge my hobby interests at 15.

had i even been the slightest bit serious about my "academic career" i would've graduated in 1985. as it happens i went to 3 different high schools and never even graduated. since there is absolutely zero footage of me from that era i do enjoy watching these compilation vids that people decide to put together all these years after the fact. i can also take pride in saying i never had a mullet or even anything close.

I just found an hour's worth of footage from Seneca HS in Louisville, KY on a tape from late 1985. It has a lot of these short interviews about school policy, lifestyles such as fashion, and even at the end a bunch of students jammin' to the rhythm of Prince's "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy!" Look out for it in the coming months for more great memories!

Our high school was built on some crazy energy conservation principles. There was only a small 1/4 size window in each classroom (if you were lucky to face outwards) in the back corner. That was to conserve the body heat from the students to heat the school. Except our electrical/electronics teacher told us they forgot about Mondays and had to last minute run more heating vents in the shop ceiling. They also used a ton of asbestos (you could literally reach up and tear a chunk off). Not sure why, it was like a prison - brick on the inside and the outside. The teachers ended up suing the school board over this and it eventually closed the school down in about 2000. Then the whole thing was torn down to make way for a new megaschool to cover the closure of 3 or 4 schools in the area.

Why do many of them look like Adults in their 30-40s? A lot of people wonder this, when they look at teenagers from the past decades, especially '50s and '60s....Vsauce science channel did an episode about just that. It's many things, their hairstyle, their clothing, which we associate with a long gone decade, but also they assumed adult responsibilities earlier, in fact the idea of teenager was invented at some point, and it was an unknown concept in the early 20th century.

I entered high school as a freshman in 1989. I remember thinking I was so grown up, and going to school with seniors - many who are legally adults was awesome! I expected high school students to act like adults. Boy was I disappointed they still acted like elementary kids.
